Tomlinson?
This is my first post here, so hello all!
This from rotoworld...
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, LaDainian Tomlinson will bring back no more than a "mid-round draft pick" in an offseason trade.
The paper considers either cutting LT2 or asking him to take a pay cut more likely options for the Chargers. Ultimately, a release will probably happen.

If he is released, how much interest would the broncos have? He's 29, but has been slowed down with injuries. He would have a huge chip on his shoulder vs. the chargers. Just a thought...

If the Chargers do release him,
I honestly don’t think Denver will take him. He is a talented RB, however how much that torn tendon in his groin will affect him I don’t know. I want a RB with no past injuries. Doctors say he should have surgery, yet he thinks different.
Keeping LT is a big money problem considering his injuries the last two seasons. SD also says they will try to keep Sproles, which will cost a lot as well. Sproles isn’t an every down back, so SD has an interesting dilemma in front of them.

Chargers have other priorites
The Chargers need to lock Rivers up. I live in San Diego and can’t stand the guy, but there is no denying his ability. He and Cutler are two of the best young QB’s out there. They also need to lock up Merriman, without him they couldn’t pressure QB’s. I have a co-worker that should be placed on suicide-watch, the idea of LT leaving is enough to turn the otherwise happy-go-lucky Hippie into an angry man full of rage.
AJ Smith is a bean counter and sentiment won’t impact the decision to free up the 8+ million in cap space. Where they draft Shon Greene or Knowshon Moreno will be available. I’ll be glad to see him leave SD, their fans will be livid, but in reality, it’s the wise long term move.
The belief that letting Sproles go would be repeating last years mistake with Michael Turner is crazy. Sproles isn’t an every down back, so even if you keep him, you have to acquire a second back to share carries.
Replacing a hall of famer
I don’t think LT will ever be his old self, but I mostly want him gone because we can’t stop the run, and he’s the best back we face twice a year. Living in San Diego, seeing sad/angry/dejected Charger fans brings me gallons of joy.
If Moss was only worth a 4th round draft pick, what is a 30 year old RB worth???
If the chargers deal LT
and we get to pick #12 and Knowshon is still there, we almost have to take him just to keep SD from taking him. We do NOT want to see that guy in our division twice a year.

Arrogance will get you nothing.
Let’s hope they make a bad decision. L.J. Smith may have shot himself in the foot letting The Burner Turner go. Sproles with big money may not be the answer also. Good Luck. (Not really)
True that.
L.J. Smith is a bum for the Eagles.

i say if the price is right we get him
definetely wont sign him to a huge deal but if he will except a more of an incentive based contract i say why not. highly unlikely but just a thought.

LT wont take
a pay cut. He may restructure. No player has ever taken a total paycut. They usually re-do their deal add more years or convert money to a bonus. The UT is a craptastic rag, the writer is in bed with Smith so I take everything that paper says with a grain of salt. The thing that will happen (most likely) is he restructures his deal. He is gonna be 30 next season, and historically RB’s who hit 30 decline

Whoever says they will cut him...
Probably doesn’t understand the cap rules. LT makes less than $6mill per year with a $12mill bonus that gets spread over 4 years under the cap rules. If they keep LT, even as a part time player, they have to pay him $6mill in salary and take a $9mill hit against the cap. If they trade him they have to find someone willing to take over his contract and they take a $6mill hit against the cap. They can cut him outright and if they do it before June 1 they can spread the $6mill hit over two years. But then they have nothing to show and run the HUGE PR risk that he is successful for someone else, maybe even the Broncos. Remember Marcus Allen?
Good point, SWG
As usual.
LT is a huge problem for SD. They have major contract issues coming up – I’m not completely up on each one, but the local MSM has been talking about it all year, so I assume that they have something there.
When your player says no surgery, and the docs disagree: when you have lost that player the last two years for the playoffs, whether totally or in degree: when you’ve spent the season managing his reps, much to his very public dismay, but hoping that this way you will have him when it counts and yet you still lose him, you have to look at making some kind of a change.

Reminds me of Merry-man
Docs said surgery – he said no – they lose him for entire season. I think SD is screwed either way. But, there seems to be some ongoing conflict between Smith and his stars. You don’t see that level of conflict, with so many players, on the better teams.
The team is a reflection
of AJ’s arrogance and Spanos’ ignorance. They can change LT if they want, but the problem won’t go away…

If SD cuts LT, then they have to go after a RB
with their first picks (Wells, Moreno, etc…). I know many of the MHR faithful like Sproles, but there’s no way he’s a #1 back in this league.
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!
I think we would take a run at him (if he gets cut)
I think we screwed up royally when SD cut Rodney Harrison and we didn’t sign him, look at what NE got out of Corey Dillion and he isn’t half the back that LT is, in our offense I am sure he would be back to an MVP type back. I understand the injury issue, but having someone like LT is a risk I would be willing to accept as far as talent, just make sure the contract protects the Broncos if he becomes injury prone, like the one we had for Robertson.

I'm with you on this one Broncoman
with a contract that is mostly paid in bonuses for performence this could be an excellent move, if he’s not intersted then he’s not our guy. Give him a shot in our system and he could be the man again, if not make sure we’re protected. Either way it would be worth it to take a look at getting him.

He would want to get paid alot more than he is worth...
when you consider the risks involved.
No thanks…I’d rather see what Hillis can do in a full season as starter.
I am the eggman...they are the eggman...I am the Mermaid...Goo Goo Gajoob!!!
NO to LT,,,,
I don’t want him near the Broncos as a teammate. He will do nothing but pout when he is injured and cost a lot of money…..send him to the NFC or something.

Sproles
Most MHRs like his because we look at the potential of Hillis and Sproles and drool. I don’t like hiring aging and expensive backs at the end of their storied careers. LDT isn’t worth the risk, IMHO

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

No to LT…..I want no part of the whinger (Australian word for whiner).
The only guy I would look at from them is Merriman if we go 3-4, but I would much rather take a Suggs or a Peppers.
Welcome by the way amn and keep the posts coming!

I think Sproles is not the answer
We have the same player in Alridge, I rather see him and Hillis for a season and maybe Torain can come back, to me Sproles is a nice complimentary player but not an everydown back.

Update
The Chargers have about $15 million in cap space, but they could add nearly $7 million to that by paring one icon. It’s not that the Chargers think Tomlinson is finished, but he will count $8.8 million against the cap in 2009 if he’s a Charger and about $2.1 million if he isn’t. Perhaps with some of the money saved if they release him (a trade of a soon-to-be 30-year-old back coming off injury who is due $6.75 million is unlikely), the Chargers will make an attempt to keep Sproles. But they want him as a returner and perhaps a back who touches the ball 10 times a game. Sproles thinks he can be more, and it will take only one team to believe he can be, too. Hester likely heads into training camp as the starting fullback
