FS Brian Dawkins Phila Eagles
Hi everyone !
AGE..... 35 6-0 210lbs YEARS IN THE NFL 13...
2008 STATS .... POSITION FREE SAFTEY
TACK 75......... FF 6....... INT 1..... SACK 3.0.....
News here in philly Dawkins will be a free agent !
What do you guys think of signing him to a one year contract to help out untill
a long term solution is reached . Think about having champ bailey and dawkins
roaming the same backfield together ! Both could mentor whoever saftey the
broncos draft untill he is ready to play . plus dawkins is a proven leader and
inspires the whole defense to play hard like Ray Lewis does for baltimore
With bailey shutting down his side of the field Dawkins will be free to roam
the middle and help out on DRE Blys side of the field The way i see it he cant
be worse than the players we are planning to field next season ! Actually he
would be a major upgrade Any thoughts ?
I dont know how to do a POLL so i will have to read and rely on all your coments

13 years is a lot of mileage even though this guy
is a killa. I dunno, I guess it would depend on the price.

I say No
Picking up Dawkins in FA would be the sort of move I’d expect from an established team with a glaring need at FS. While Denver does have a glaring need at FS (and at SS, and DT, and…), Denver is also a young team building for future glory; if it were up to me, I’d bring in young players and let the team gel into something long-lasting.
The timing is also a factor. I’d hate to see a short-term veteran signing influence the draft away from safety (assuming a good safety is to be had any of Denver’s picks). However, sign Dawkins AFTER the draft as a stop-gap (in case a safety does not land in Denver’s lap) wouldn’t be so bad. But that doesn’t seem too likely.

Exactly.
B-Dawk is the kind of signing I expect from a team a few players away from a Super Bowl, not a team on the rebuild. Heck, I wanna see the guy win a Super Bowl. Ending his career in Philly would be nice too.
Added the poll for you
I would take him, but only if we SWORE to use him correctly. I don’t want to see us wasting another great talent.
I think he would bring the kind of education that young barrett needs: how to use your physical tools to change the game. And I think he brings a respect for the position thats effect could reverbrate even after he leaves.
I love safeties though, so I am biased. Dawkins is STILL one of the best ever.

i dont think you can get him for a one year deal
he had a pretty good year and i cant see there not being any teams that offer him a multi year deal
Then give him one
He’s a vocal leader on D, a quarteback of the D, and he is water in a vast desert to the Broncos faithful. Pay the man. He’s worth it. And a revamped D, proper use of safeties (it should have been an interview question – Are you now or have you ever been guilty of vastly misusing the safety position….:), Champ at CB and a few position upgrades and we have, as TSG says, “Yahtzee!”

I like him, but what can he give you for more than a year or two
Great player, but I really think we need to continue with the youth movement, Dawkins would be nice for a year or two, but then what. I rather see them sign someone like Landry out of Baltimore, he’s young and servicable until we can get some talent of our own. Mays in 09’!

If we go a different way
• Wake Forest S Chip Vaughn was able to put an exclamation point during this afternoon’s practice on what was an overall impressive week. Vaughn continues to be reliable in the back end as he takes precise angles to the point when the ball is in the air. He also showed natural instincts when roaming center field and was able to read the quarterbacks’ eyes and get a quick jump on the ball. Vaughn has been outstanding in run support the past few days and today he proved he is not just a box safety, but can be counted on in coverage as well.

And
Delmas’ status for the game is still up in the air and his injury remains undisclosed, but a scout who spoke with him told us that Delmas is going to have tests done at a local hospital this afternoon. Regardless of if he plays in Saturday’s game or not, Delmas can leave Mobile with his head held high. We now rank him as one of the top two safety prospects (along with Alabama’s Rashad Johnson) in the 2009 class, which means Delmas has leapfrogged Missouri’s William Moore. Seeing Delmas and Moore on the same field this week has made it clear that Delmas is the more complete player. Moore has great straight-line speed for his size, but his somewhat stiff hips hinder his ability to match up in man coverage and he hasn’t eased concerns about how quickly he diagnoses plays. While Delmas (6-foot, 197 pounds) isn’t nearly as big as Moore, he is still a tough run stuffer who flies to the ball and his instincts in coverage are outstanding. As one personnel man said this week, “If you don’t believe in Delmas, go watch the Western Michigan-Nebraska game [in which Delmas had 11 tackles — five solo — and an interception]. It tells you everything you need to know.”
