Conditional Draft PIcks
Wikipedia is generally looked down on as a news source but all of these trades were made and we have conditional picks at stake:
Denver Broncos to New York Jets:
Atlanta Falcons to Denver Broncos:
Seattle Seahawks to Denver Broncos:
Denver Broncos to New York Jets:
The Denver Broncos traded an undetermined conditional selection to the New York Jets as part of their trade for defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson. Link.
Since i believe this trade, as well as the others is based on playing time and performance here are his stats.
G: 15 / T: 22 / S: 1.5
I believe the expected pick is a 4th to 5th rounder.
Atlanta Falcons to Denver Broncos:
The Atlanta Falcons traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the Denver Broncos in return for cornerback Dominique Foxworth. The pick can increase based on playing time. Link.
This deal is for a 7th rounder but i believe if he reaches the goal then it would be a 6th rounder. His stats are...
G: 16 / T: 38 / S: 0 / I: 1
Seattle Seahawks to Denver Broncos:
The Seattle Seahawks traded a fifth-round draft pick in 2009 to the Denver Broncos in return for wide receiver Keary Colbert. The pick could have been upgraded to a fourth-round pick in 2009 depending on Colbert's playing time with the Seahawks. Colbert was released by the Seahawks mid-season. Link.
This one is spelled out, a 5th rounder that could have gone to a 4th rounder, but since he was released i believe that either the 5th rounder gets traded or the deal is off.

The way I understood the DRob trade...
was if the total number of plays he was involved in, was <55%, then we owe the Jets nothing. I could be wrong. Anyone?

I think it was 65%, but I believe that is correct

The pick for Foxy...
the upgrade to the 6th is contingent on the Falcons resigning him.

DRob
I think it was a 6th round pick if he played 65% of the defensive snaps. Nothing if he played 64% or less.

Another question...
Is anyone up on where Denver is or migh be regarding compensatory picks?

The way I see it...
we get:
Seatle’s 5th for Colbert
Dallas’ 5th for Holland in 2010
Atlanta’s 7th for Foxy
we give:
a conditional for DRob, which may end up being no pick

Don't forget Houston's 6th for Chris Myers.

Oh...
Was that last year? I thought it applied to this draft. Well, good trade! I’d much rather have Larsen.

Don't forget...
We used the cap space to sign Weigman. Maybe the best roster move of the off-season (not counting drafting Clady & Royal)

And to thik I was royally pissed at the move..
I thought Myers was going to take Nalen’s place someday..

Other than Fergeson
who did we lose? Comp pick are only awarded based on FAs lost aren’t they?
by SlowWhiteGuy on Jan 3, 2009 4:03 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I dont think comp picks are determined till March...
but to answer your question, a team losing more FA’s than it aquires is eligible for comp picks, and the number of those picks equals the net loss of the team’s free agents. I’m not sure if an offer must be made, then beaten by another team for the FA to count towards the comp tally. So other than Elam, I’m not sure we can count any free agents as ‘lost’. Free agents we signed who were not cut from their previous team, to the best of my knowledge were, Pittman, Colbert, and Parker. I don’t know the entire compensatory formula, regarding roster status, etc. But I do know it has something to do with salary and individual awards, stats, etc. So I think we actually lost one in Elam, but picked up three. Of those three, one was traded, one was cut, and the other ended up on IR. So we are basically -1, and I don’t think that will be enough for a comp pick.

But like I said...
I don’t fully understand the formula, and the results typically come out in March.

That's what I thought....
doesn’t sound like we’ll get any,
by SlowWhiteGuy on Jan 3, 2009 5:31 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, compensatories focus on restricted free agents from what I understand...correct?
by phantom818 on Jan 3, 2009 6:38 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
Comp picks are determined by unrestricted FA's only...
as RFA’s have their own built in comp system.

Yes
Donbok’s explanation is close enough.
We have a snowball’s cahnce in Hell of getting a compensatory pick this year…

wait comp picks are based on FAs signed and gained last year?
not the FAs we lose/sign this offseason?
by purplesocks on Jan 3, 2009 6:39 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
We might get one for Elam signing, but I would guess that would be a 6th rounder

That would be funny
if the league determined that Elam was more valuable than the combination of Weig, Colbert, Boss, DJax, K-tou, McCree and Manuel.
I think that is all of our eligibles? I don’t believe guys signed after free agency is over count….

reread donbok's comment...
Parker and Pittman, of course. I can see forgetting parker, but I had no excuse for forgetting Pittman. Still, it seems like three seasons ago that he was running for us….

Wow...
How did I forget Boss and K2, but remembered Sammie Parker.
Parker I’m pretty sure won’t count due to playing time, and his being cut. Pittman was a real late signing, so I’m thinking that Tampa may have never offered him a contract, so he wouldn’t count either. Colbert was traded, so he’s out. Manuel was a FA, but I don’t think Carolina offered to him or Colbert. DJax was cut by San Fran, that was local news here in Norcal. McCree was cut too, if I remember right. Niko was definitely tendered in Seattle, so he counts. That leaves Boss and Wiggy. No idea if Detroit tried to retain Boss. Wiggy signed to back up Nalen, so could you then guess that KC didn’t tender an offer to him either?
So we have K2, and possibly Boss. K2’s contract might actually be worth less than Elam’s this year, or very close to it. So if came down to playing time, Elam would be the more valuable player right? If Detriot never made a qualifing offer to Boss, we may actually end up getting a comp pick!?

I think Weigman was released...
I thought it was part of KC’s youth movement.

I just hope we do something solid with them and get some good talent on defense.

compensatory picks
I’ve written on this subject and posted the links on this. The original Williamson article on ESPN was contradicted by the later articles in the Denver Post (here).
If Robertson plays in less than 65 percent of the defensive plays in 2008, the Broncos will not have to give the Jets a 2009 draft pick. The Jets will get up to a third-round pick in the unlikely event Robertson is on the field for more than 65 percent of the plays.
The Broncos use an eight-man rotation up front so it’s unlikely any defensive lineman, much less Robertson, will play two-thirds of the snaps. Elvis Dumervil was the only Broncos lineman who played 70 percent of the defensive snaps last season, but that was partly because of injuries to two other defensive ends, Ebenezer Ekuban and Jarvis Moss.
The information on the Colbert trade appears accurate.
We had the Atlanta counterpart to our Guru in a live interview when we played Atlanta and his take was that the Falcons would be re-signing Foxworth, so I’ve been treating this pick as a 6th pending signing.
