It's Official: Shannon Has to Wait

I think we all knew this was coming. Six men were elected to the Hall of Fame today, and none was Shannon Sharpe.

Here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3874838

I guess they'll have to wait for some other TE to completely redefine the position in order for him to make it in on the first ballot.

In case you want to fuel your rage, here' s a link to his stats:

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SharSh00.htm

When he was young, he played in conservative offenses doing business in a league that did not have the passing sophistication of today's game. A person can only wonder what the guy's stats would be like if he'd entered the league 5-6 years later and played through the pass-wacky period of today.

To get in the HOF you have to

be the best player ever at your positon, like Elway, or play somewhere else.

i thought he was,

with all due apologies to mr. gonzalez. this is total shit. sharpe and carter were awesome players, i can’t believe they didn’t get in, and there are no guarantees as time moves on. woodson and mcdaniel are worthy, but i thought bruce smith could have waited for sharpe, or even carter. they should both get in in time, but come on…

Carter has zero Super Bowl appearances.....and like one or two playoff wins in his career. Booo!

Tony G will be a first ballot hof without question…..Sharpe played for the Broncos. He needs to wait 5-10, like a prison term or some damn thing.

This is my GAP, there are many like it but this one is mine. Without my GAP I am useless, without me, they will run through my GAP. I will protect my GAP and have my brothers back on his. I will not be moved from my GAP, I am a crazed dog that patrols this area and will defeat all who enter it. I own this GAP, it is mine. I bought it with blood and sweat. I will not be pushed. I will not be moved. This Sunday I will make a stand and a statement.

I was calling bs too.

But I really don’t have a problem with who got in. The problem I have with the whole thing is they can only allow 6 players maximum every year. If you look at who got in, no wonder Shannon and C.C. got snubbed

Col. Sandurz: Prepare ship for light speed!
Dark Helmet: No, no, no, light speed is too slow!
Col. Sandurz: Light speed, too slow?!
Dark Helmet: Yes, we're gonna have to go right to . . . ludicrous speed!
Col. Sandurz: Ludicrous speed?! Sir, we've never gone that fast before. I don't know if the ship can take it.
Dark Helmet: What's the matter Colonel Sandurz? Chicken?

Interesting article by Jim Trotter of SI on the selection process

Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. When the fear has gone past, I will turn to see fear’s path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

ok, I stand corrected...

They filled the 5 “modern era” spots, and left 1 “senior” spot unfilled. I presumed Ralph Wilson was a senior candidate, simply because, well… he’s old (lol)! This makes it slightly less annoying, but am still annoyed nonetheless! They could’ve filled that senior spot with Gradishar! =/

I just saw him talking about this on First Take this morning.

With the first ballot locks like Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith next year that will leave only 3 spots for everyone else. In 2011 it doesn’t get better with more guys up for their first time. I just hope that Sharpe doesn’t have to wait like 5 years to get in when Tony Gonzalez might make it in his first time.

Well, Tim Brown and Jerry Rice were better wide receivers than Shannon Sharpe.

I think I’m gonna puke.
