DENVER POST
Although the Jay Cutler-led offense has largely been able to sidestep blame for the team's woes the past two seasons, statistics say the Broncos have become a chronic move-between-the-20s team.
In 2009 the Broncos need a certified, creative, experienced, professional, defensive specialist who has won a Super Bowl. They should get Steve Spagnuolo.
Everybody knew D.J. Williams was hurt while trying to play in the final two games of the season. Few knew the extent of his pain.
Because the Broncos could be paying $7 million to fired coach Mike Shanahan for the 2009 season, there is speculation salary requirements could be a factor for owner Pat Bowlen as he seeks a new head coach.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS
After seeing his unit dismantle the Miami Dolphins offense Sunday, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan had a message for the Broncos and every other team in the market for a head coach:
Let's do the short version. Whoever takes Mike Shanahan's place will fail. The one after that is the one who will win.
OTHER
Mike Shanahan is the perfect example of the flaw in Bill Parcells' classic line: "If you want to cook the meal, you should be allowed to buy the groceries."
A day after interviewing Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in New York, the owner of the Denver Broncos met Sunday with New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in the Boston area.
Garrett will interview with the Broncos this week after they received permission to talk with the Cowboys' assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, however, he has turned down Detroit's offer to interview for its vacancy, according to multiple sources.

Rex Ryan
if I had my way, you’d be the Broncos HC already. You want a top job, and I want you to have this one, but apparently the powers that be will keep us separated.

D. J.
The shoulder injury explains why he didn’t perform as well as WW in the final games. It was premature to assume that WW was the better player — obviously. And I say that even though I’ve always believed that WW shows great promise.

My question though, if he was that banged up, why not sit him and let Woodyard play
Woodyard had played very well, and I rather have an effective woodyard than an ineffective Williams on the field.
