New Member of MHR
Just would like to say hello to all. Im a new member here, and its very nice to see fellow fans of the greatest football team on earth. While this past week has been extremely trying on us, no doubt we will return to glory.
A little about me. I have been blessed with having the greatest job on earth in my opinion. I am the lead driver of the Denver Broncos. I had the honor of carrying my coach " Coach Shanahan" or " Coach " as I called him. He sat directly behind me less than 2 feet. He is a very nice and a class act. He always said Good Morning or Hello Michael and always shook my hand. I loved the smile he would get and the wink he would give me when I would tell him to " Run it up on them Coach, Leave no doubt " or when I would say as when they played the Raiders in Oakland. " Go wear that ass out coach !!! " and he did.
I, for sure will miss " Coach ". No doubt about that. I hope Mr. Bowlen will take great care and use extreme caution in selecting a new Head Coach.
Just my opinion. I believe the new head coach must be a defensive oriented coach. Mr. Bowlen cannot for any reason hire an offensive minded coach. That defeats the purpose of letting coach go, regardless of the nonsense that " it was time ". The new coach which should be Steve Spagnuolo. He is the best and brightest mind available today. I heard coach talk about him one day. The offense should be left alone. I say revamp the entire defense, keeping corners Bailey, Bly, rookies Jack " Ball Hawk " Williams, Linebackers Wesley Woodyard, and DJ Williams. Elvis Dumervil and maybe the old man Ebenezer Ekuban for leadership.
No doubt if Spagnuolo comes here, as well as he is liked in New York, there will most certainly be impact players to follow him. The danger in all this is if Coach Shanahan does decide to coach elsewhere this year, we stand to lose several high impact players on offense over the next couple of years. Most notably Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler. They were very close to coach and talking to them through the year very very loyal to him. The only thing that prevents this is locking them up NOW to long term contracts and winning starting next year. Anything less is a recipe for disaster and an early exit for the new coach.

Welcome and good point...
It never seems to fail that players do have a sense of loyalty to old coaches. Though certain players may and most likely will follow Shanny wherever he goes (due to Free Agency), I would think the market will determine if the players you mention stay or go. I could see the Broncos letting Marshall or Scheff walk, but they will do everything in their power to lock Cutler up (IMO). I think we’ll see more 2nd and 3rd tier talent walk away, but again, players will go to teams that a) pay them the most $$$ and b) give them a shot at winning. If we improve as a team, then we can at least satisfy the latter point. The former is up to our cap situation and how imporant “said” player is to the team.
Again, welcome to MHR!
PS – For laughs sake, have you ever yelled back to the players in the bus, “G-damnit, if you kids don’t shut up, I’m turning this bus around!” I’d be so tempted, but then again, keeping your job probably overrides cheap giggles.
I wish Woody Paige was our coach!

I am sure you have some interesting stories you can share with us, and a whole bunch you cannot.
I share your opinion abuot our offensive free agents, but we will have to wait and see where Coach Shanahan ends up and what the new Broncos coaching staff looks like.

Ditto to the comments above.
Just wanted to point out one comment….
Jack " Ball Hawk " Williams
I don’t think any man when he reflects on his life at age 80 will want his grandchildren remembering his nickname if it is foul. I think we should show Jack’s future children and grandchildren some respect by calling him Ball Hawk.

welcome aboard, and what a cool job. we will be listening to your de-classified stories with great interest. yeah, i guess this move takes a little venom out of the raider rivalry, but another team’s hate for them will begin anew(if there are any left) with shanny’s next team. i, too am concerned about “coach” taking not only players with him, but assistant coaches, especially on offense. hopefully he hires bates or slowick as his dc, so we get to play against that. i’m not sure this style of offense will/can be maintained with the new administration. we have got to keep bates/dennison in some capacity. does anyone else available know this playbook, scheme, or are even familiar with the previous structure? i really don’t want to start over on offense right now.
the defense, 2009 will be the year of the defense. it simply has to be addressed now, and it made bowlen’s tough decision, in my opinion. we need starters. i would like to keep many players on d, but as backups. this side of the ball is very fixable, 2 years max. we need a veteran dt, and a lb or safety. draft high likewise, and we should have a very solid foundation to work with. remember, we can win with a good defense, and not necessarily a great one. year 2, if we don’t go “all-in” this offseason, we need a de or 2, a corner, and one more player at the weakest position. that’s only 8-9 players in 2 seasons, and we still have champ, d.j., doom, bly?, and the youngins ww, larsen, barrett, jmfw, powell, thomas, even crowder and moss may work out better in a new scheme. ok, that’s a reach, but there is some talented players to sort through with our new defensive philosophy. the d-line must go from below-average to above-average, immediately. a real dt or 2, and another de would give quick results, i would imagine. use #12 pick at mlb. a real safety. done. good. realistically, we could be very deep here on d in 2 seasons if we want to, or just 1, if we really want to/can afford to. it’s all about priorities. ok, i’m rambling. i do that. either way, this is going to be one hell of an interesting offseason, that is certain. stay tuned, here at mhr.
feel free to ask any question here, this site is well-equipped to give answers to practically everything. enjoy, and please, tell us your secrets!

Welcome, from a MHR virgin
This is my first comment! Just joined today. Born and raised a Broncos Fan.
Hope to hear more insider stories about Broncos bus rides in the future. Your point about losing star offensive players to Shanny’s new team (if he coaches immediately) is legitimate and scares the heck out of me. I know JayCut liked Shanny and I fear that he won’t “mesh” with the new coach. We can’t lose Cutler. QB is arguably the most important position on the team. Although Cutler threw too many INT’s, I believe that it’s hard to play QB when you always have to score or are always playing from behind. Jay is GOOD. We all see his cannon of an arm and his will to win (he could work on his body language and PR skills). Cutler is 11-1 when his D gives up 23pts or less. With a solid D, Cutler can be the best QB in the league. We would be able to run more often (assuming every RB doesn’t go down to some freak injury) and throw when we WANT to not because we HAVE to. WE NEED TO FIX THE DEFENSE and keep our offensive nucleus.
The coaching decision suspense is killing me!

Welcome!
I know what you mean. I wish we’d just hurry up and hire a damn coach already. The anxiety is likking me.
I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

Obviously, the anxiety is not licking me.
It is killing me. But what if it were possible for anxiety to lick you? Imagine the possibilities!!

6B, welcome aboard!
I share your concerns for losing “Shanahan” players. The second order effect of losing a successful coach continue to roll in.
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

Welcome aboard, Michael L!
Everyone here is very pleased to have you with us. Talk about in ‘insider’ perspective on a few things!
To start with:
The new coach which should be Steve Spagnuolo. He is the best and brightest mind available today. I heard coach talk about him one day. Thanks for sharing that.
Wow, talk about a compliment to Spags! I know that most of us are hoping for him (according to our polling, at least) and I’m one of them. The MHR excellence came up with that stat of stats, in Cutler’s numbers when the D holds them to 23 (and thank you again to the man who found that one). We need to keep some emphasis on the O, move from good red zone nuimbers to higher scoring numbers but even to ‘hold serve’ and keep this level would put us deep in the playoffs quickly with a solid run at a D.
One of my concerns, which I haven’t voiced before, is reflected in this comment:
“we stand to lose several high impact players on offense over the next couple of years.”
My concern is that some of our top people will want to follow Coach S when it’s contract time. Even more so, I can see several assistants like Bobby Turner pssibly considering staying with a man they seem to like and respect. It could be quite a change in the system. The sooner we bring in a HC and establish our coordinators that better.
