FIVE THINGS I HEAR...

2. I hear the Broncos were not enamored or impressed with Steve Spagnuolo and he does not seem to be the frontrunner. However, they were very impressed with Josh McDaniels of the Patriots, and he might be the favorite now. The Broncos might be on a fast track to hire a coach this week. Moving up the Raheem Morris interview means they might want to move quickly.

I understand not wanting to wait and lose a good coach but...

I’d also like Bowlen to wait until after the Titans/Ravens game to see if Rex Ryan is free for an interview….While I really like Spags and he definitely is a big reason the Giants have a great D, Rex Ryan has been with his team longer and has proven himself a defensive force as a coach over a longer period of time…I just like the idea of highering a man who has a long tenior of coaching a dominant defense year after year….I just want Bowlen to interview him.

Hmm...interesting.

Hiring McDaniel would be a mistake in my opinion. Though he fits the criteria I expected Pat Bowlen to look for. I must admit that the more I look into Raheem Morris the more I like him….but neither he nor McDaniel impress me much. I wish we’d just make Dennison an INTERIM head coach and land a big fish next year. ;-) Weak crop of potential head coaches right now…reminds me of the Wade Phillips signing back in 93……

This is my GAP, there are many like it but this one is mine. Without my GAP I am useless, without me, they will run through my GAP. I will protect my GAP and have my brothers back on his. I will not be moved from my GAP, I am a crazed dog that patrols this area and will defeat all who entire it. I own this GAP, it is mine. I bought it with blood and sweat. I will not be pushed. I will not be moved. This Sunday I will make a stand and a statement.

I totally agree!

I wish we’d just make Dennison an INTERIM head coach and land a big fish next year.

That was exactly my thought on this whole deal. Who knows, It may all work out better then anyone could expect. Keep the continuity and allow Bolin to be a bigger part of the management process on a day to day basis.

Hmm

I heard that the Broncos were impressed by Spags. So…many…conflicting…reports…

by Muse_Cubed on Jan 5, 2009 3:34 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Spags must not interview well

There have been reports he didn’t do well in the Jets interviews. According to ROTOWOLD " Schottenheimer, who interviewed Thursday, has apparently passed Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo atop owner Woody Johnson’s wish list. Spagnuolo interviewed Saturday and reportedly “wasn’t as prepared as one would think”.

Interesting stuff.

prepared

They sem to be ignoring that he is trying to defend the Giants title in the playoffs right now… He may not be ready for an interview, but he had one hell of a blitz package ready if the interviewer called a certain play….

I was thinking along those same lines

maybe it shows dedication to his real job which is winning a Super Bowl with the Giants…I like him already!

I also find that curious

I mean basically he would of learned about the job 3 days before the interview, how is he going to comment on things, he has no time to evaluate the team or talent, let alone say this is what I would do, hell, he is in the middle of a playoff run, I would say look, here’s what I believe in and here is how I would run things, here is who I would like to get as coaches, but I can’t get you a detailed list of what would happen until I can sit down and look at the team.

Mr Bowlen, feed us!!! We need a HC hired. Then we can get to the business of talking about it, second guessing him, working on new plays for next season, etc…. :) I wonder who really knows anything these days…Call me a A-Schefter homer, but until he or Jay Glazer confirms something…

Hanging meat doesn't work

at least not on island black bear. Those buggers are worse than the forest service when it comes to stealing stuff you try to hide in the woods…

On another note, If Pioli gets fasttracked to KC, why wouldn’t he bring McDaniels with him? I hope the Chefs don’t force Bowlen to act rashly and make a mistake he will regret when the dust settles….

Not saying I am against McDaniels (I can see some upside) but I just don’t want this to be a hasty decision in the heat of the moment to prevent KC from one upping us…

Another interesting quote from the same column...
The Broncos have a better young offensive coach on their staff in Jeremy Bates than the Cowboys have in offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. The NFL is all about perception, and very few watch tape to learn the real story. What did Garrett do this year to deserve an interview?

I have to say, I’m kind of excited about the idea McDaniels. Not sure why, other than that I am in favor of bringing in an offensive HC…

“Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo comes with rave reviews. He greatly impressed the Broncos executives he had dinner with Saturday night in New Jersey, and it wouldn’t be overly surprising to see him wind up with the job.”

I don’t know about you guys but I trust Schefter of Lombardi. Schefter is almost dead on when he reports stuff like this. Plus Schefter is super connected throught the league

dolphins don't bite as hard as sharks...

in fact, I did go back in the ocean beyond waist deep since i had that bad experience, but that’s because there was a pack of wild dolphins swimming along the beach and I figured I didn’t have to worry about sharks. lol then they left and i figured there could be sharks again so I got out. Yes Schefter also said Mcdaniels is the front runner but he also said spags greatly impressed the Broncos executives he had dinner with Saturday night in New Jersey, and it wouldn’t be overly surprising to see him wind up with the job. I just believe Schefter over that moron Lombardi

All I want is his paycheck, and his job of course!

That has to be a fun job…….. starting rumers and all that stuff!

the National Football Post

Is arguably the best football website on the web (besides MHR :) ). They brakes stories far before anyone else. I would say Lombardi is just as connected as Shefter.

And given that they both seem to agree...

I’m guessing there may be something to the rumor that McDaniels is currently the front-runner….

I agree....

There are a lot of Lombardi haters here, for some reason, but he’s about the most insightful football writer out there, in my opinion. The Jay Glazers and Adam Schefters are repeaters of information, but a guy like Lombardi can mix that with being a 25 year football man. It’s a pretty good combination.

Plus, he broke the story of Shanny's firing twenty minutes before Schefter or anyone else...

and no one in the MSM gave him credit for it, except Deadspin.

was going to mention that

Lombardi worked in our front office as well. It’s safe to say he has connections and worthy insight to offer.

The Schefter/NFL network connection...

really bothers me. It’s one thing to have the inside track with so many teams, it’s another for the NFL to hijack the person with that information. Seems pretty shady to me.

by JR_G on Jan 5, 2009 7:11 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

Its all speculation right now

I don’t think anyone in Bowlens group is giving out any info so this is all rumors right now

by gnarlybroncodude on Jan 6, 2009 12:33 AM MST reply actions   0 recs

In terms of all the "he said this" and "they said that" talk...

I don’t think you can believe any of it.

Why would the Broncos want to come out and say “we think Spags is the best available HC prospect”? That would only increase the feeding frenzy.

Honestly…you can’t believe one word of it.

"WTF" By Zappa. 1/5/09

I can deal with bears....sharks on the other hand.......of course, I am not talking about if I were menstrual(I’m a guy so that isn’t it), but yeah. I can deal with bears if my arm or something was bleedin’, but sharks? I’ll pass on those. The worst feeling in the world is to be out in the surf and feel something very large brush up against your leg as you were alone waiting for your next wave. I don’t think I’ve gone out past waist deep in the ocean since. lol It was probably just a damn dolphin or something, but yeah. Screw sharks and the evolutionary train they rode in on!

Thanks to Mike Shanahan, a great coach who will be dearly missed.

Since we have to hire someone, please get a defensive coach Mr. Bowlen.
Hillis for starter next year. He wears special thigh pads so his solid brass balls don't give him repeated thigh contusions.

I'm one of the supporters of the theory that...

…Bowlen’s taken on Shanny’s drafting tactics and we’ll hire a head coach who we’ve not interviewed and who nobody suspects that we’ll hire.

From that point of view, the front runner is Shannon Sharpe.

What? your right I would'nt expect that. HA!

That's funny......New HC is Shannon Sharpe.

On the real side, that is a good philosophy because this is an important hire and you never want to tip your hand because of all the head coaching spots available.
