this is probably the closest matchup of two teams this week, IMO—even though pundits are overwhelmingly choosing new england. I think we get an edge because we are at home, and a bit healthier than NE.

bizarre...

baltimore/cincy they mis-spotted the ball by five yards after a challenged fumble. The announcers caught it.

Oakland benefits from one of the weakest applications of the forward progress rule ever.

That happened so fast, that there’s no way that should have been ruled forward progress.

The worst call this year has to be the roughing the passing call on BAL last weekend. I’m hoping that the NFL took enough heat for that call that we’ll get a little more leniency this week.

Break out for Orton

Our offense has not exactly been lighting up the score board so far but we need to remember ours is a particularly complex offense that takes time to learn. I’ve seen enough glimpses of offensive potential, and Orton’s ability to direct it, that there’s a feeling it will be wins this game or the next rather than defense. When we do it will be a pass of two over their heads and deep down field.

by BroncoCUbuffs on Oct 11, 2009 1:33 PM MDT reply actions

That’s supposed to be "the offense will win one or both of the next two games.

by BroncoCUbuffs on Oct 11, 2009 1:34 PM MDT up reply actions

If you're all into superstitions and history repeating itself:

Last year, Matt Cassel didn’t start doing anything special until week 7 against Denver. That was also his 5th game starting (they had a bye week in week 4).

So, if this playbook is what we all think it is, today should be Orton’s day to really start clicking and getting the book down pat. Also, look for Orton to have a better game since there is no snow yet.

I think McD has been holding some of the book back for a lot of reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is simply because Orton, like Cassel, has needed some time to get comfortable with it.
