I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'
My thoughts from a recovered "Broncos are going down the wrong path" guy....
First, I've said it earlier and I'll say it again. I couldn't have been more wrong about McD, and I couldn't be happier for being so wrong. More after the jump:
Apologies:
1. Sorry Coach McD for not giving you the benefit of the doubt. I thought you were too young and arrogant for your own good. I thought you were trying to hard to be Belichick. I wondered if you were just another product of the Patriot system where they spin out new head coaches that can't really be a head coach. I was wrong on all accounts.
2. Sorry Mr. Bowlen for thinking you were crazy for handing over the keys to McD. I thought you were losing your touch. You are now 2 for 2 for finding young brilliant football minds to lead your football team.
3. Sorry Kyle Orton. I have been back-and-forth on you. I thought you were a stop gap solution at best. I told myself and posted here that I would reserve judgment until after your glove was off. After the Dallas game, I became impatient and no longer cared about the glove, I had my reservations about your performance. This week, you were finally without your glove and you were spectacular. And in retrospect, more than good enough in the Dallas game as well. Excellent, excellent, game yesterday.
Wow factor:
4. I believe a defense is defined in the second half of games. I read on ESPN.Boston today that on 3rd downs in the second half this season, the Broncos have only given up 2 of 31 first downs. That is absolutely amazing!
5. Brandon Marshall buying into the system. Get him in the red zone and is nothing short of very, very special. And big credit to that last 3rd down in OT where Coach McD (in maybe not the best decision), called a go route for Marshall, and Marshall made darn sure that the ball was not intercepted.
6. The special team gives up two first downs on penalties to keep the Pats drive alive, and the defense still keeps them from scoring. That is serious heart.
7. The offense with scoring drives of 90 and 98 yards.....oh yeah baby!!!
8. The chills I got when I say McD pumping his fists and hugging his players after the game with the crowd going manic. I haven't had that feeling during a Bronco game since I believe the first Super Ball win.
____
I could come up with some thoughts on more critical critiques, but that is what I usually do. After this game, I'm still feeling too good to take a critical look.

Sorry Orton
I have to admit. During the first quarter of the game I was thinking we need a new front man. But Orton really came through in the clutch and he is getting better and better. He might be more of a long term solutation than I gave him credit before. I always believed he was good, but yesterday in the second half and OT, he was spectacular. And for McD, who has been seen being very hard on Kyle, to say he didn’t miss a read is high praise!

+1
I never said that Orton was the wrong man for the job…..but I CERTAINLY said Orton was not a long term solution. I said he was great for what we needed, but he’ll never stick around. Boy….I have as much egg on my face as anyone else. Sorry Orton

And I forgot how young he still is...
I believe he is only 26. That is still young for a QB.

I love it when a plan comes together!
And even better, I told my wife exactly what McD said… we can play better! Look out, NFL, here we come!

Sorry Orton
I wavered. For a time, I stopped believing that you could be more than a stopgap. Thank you for restoring my faith.

Thanks....
I am not delusional enough to believe there will not be some rainy days from time to time. Every team has them. But I am very confident that we have the right staff (lead by McD) and team character to weather those storms.

Beautiful stuff
A lot of people felt this, "I thought you were too young and arrogant for your own good. I thought you were trying to hard to be Belichick. "
This statement makes me wonder: where does that come from within us?
Why is it if we see someone confidently going about his business, we instantly distrust it, even attack it?
Considering so much of what we perceive is based on our own experiences, thoughts and emotions, perhaps what we saw in McD is actually what we see in ourselves?

I've got to admit
At times, I felt like a moronic homer. I was watching things that fit together, in my find, beautifully. It seemed to be making great sense. Was I delusional? Was it all a mirage? I really wasn’t sure at times, but it seemed to be a classic exercise in business, organizational and football theory, the culmination of everything that I’d studied. I found myself actually worrying because it seem to be making perfect sense.
Surprise! It did. What a great opportunity to see, close up, how to do something difficult and to do it with almost textbook precision. Congratulations to Pat Bowlen, Josh McDaniels, Brian Xanders, Mike Noland and all the rest. This is something that may be talked about for some years to come.
