The Weekly "I'm Tired" Rant
Welcome to the Week 5 Weariness list... Enjoy the venting!
1. I am tired of not being able to say "I Told You So!!!!" to the WORLD about Josh McDaniel's and Kyle Orton and Knowshon Moreno and Brandon Marshall and Brian Dawkins and Doom and DJ and Mike Nolan and .... so many more.
I mean, I could say "I told you so" to everyone here at MHR... but hey... except for a few, I'd be preaching to the choir. There was a reason that the "13-3 Baby" mantra was being passed around here, and it wasn't just because we were blind, irrational fans. We actually had the ability to objectively look at the Broncos of the past... see an ill-prepared, me-first, pad the stats kind of team that was 8-8 and say "If we take care of some of the fundamental issues, this team could be good.... very good!" And when we saw almost every weakness being addressed in a serious way, we knew that good things were right around the corner. We were right... and the world was wrong. I so want to rub it in.
But as wonderful as it is to have the MHR community, the reality is that our platform often gets dwarfed by ignorant journalists who have been given a "Gia-normous" platform to spout that ignorance, with little, if any, accountability. Why do you think that the Denver Broncos are the "Surprise story of 2009?" Because the so called "Experts"... who did very little research, and could only see through their "They don't have Cutler" glasses, said so. I wish I had a few thousand dollars sitting around so I could take out a full page ad in the Denver Post that says very simply... "We Were Right About the Broncos, and You Guys Were WRONG!"... but of course, that would be childish. (unless someone would like to donate a few thousand dollars to make it happen... then it would be sweet!)
2. Which leads me to point #2. I am tired of the endless drub of these "so-called Experts" now gushing apologies to Josh McDaniels and the Broncos. Sometimes apologies don't mean anything, and this is one of those times. When it looked like Josh McDaniels had made mistake after mistake, you "Experts" all called for his job. Without even 1 game under his belt, you suggested that he might be the worst coach ever. Well, now the tables are turned. You have made mistake after mistake in this matter, and you have been proven wrong in a big way. How about you live by the same standard you used with Josh McDaniels. How about you start calling for yourself to be fired. How about you admit to the world that you just might be the worst Journalist ever.
As the best coach in the NFL said recently... "I'm not talking about "My Bad" anymore!" and honestly, I couldn't have said it much better myself. Enough with the apologies. Learn from your mistakes and become a quality and reputable journalist that earns the ability to report. If not, I hope you get canned.
3. I am tired of stupid Power Rankings. They are absolutely ridiculous. To give any credence to these things is just plain dumb. Question for you. Why is Denver the lowest ranked un-defeated team in virtually every power ranking? Because the media says that Denver should be bad. Does it have anything to do with reality. No. It has absolutely nothing to do with the strength or quality of a team. It has everything to do with public perception... or Expert Bias. We should call them "Public Perception Rankings" or better yet, "Idiot Experts Best Guess Rankings" from now on. It would be much more accurate.
4. I know this is a repeat, but If I ever hear another comment about Orton's noodle arm, I am going to explode. It was the mantra of every NFL expert all year long and guess what? I am so sick and tired of it. Hey you thousands of people who were screaming to draft Mark Sanchez this year because of his arm strength and KO's lack there of. Anybody see last nights game? Sanchez drops back to throw a Hail Mary, releases from their 40, and got it to about the 10. In Sundays game, KO has the same scenario, throws it from the 35 and gets it picked at the 3. That is almost 15 yards longer. So If you say "noodle arm" again, it will be understood that actually, you are referring to your "noodle brain". Kyle Orton can make all the throws.
5. I am tired of fan's that give up before the game is over. Maybe it was just me, but it really irked me that many here in the game threads actually gave up on our team in the 4th quarter of the game. I know that there were a few mis-cues that made it look as if the wheels were falling off, but C'mon man... don't quit fighting with your team. Don't you want a team that fights hard for the entire 60 minutes of the game? Don't you want a team that gives 100%, every play and every down, whether they are winning or loosing? If you want that, then be that kind of fan. Don't be one of those fans that only supports your team when all the chips are going their way. Be the kind of fan, that fights hard even through the difficult times. Our team taught us something this week. Don't give up... and don't quit fighting. It's not just the right way to be a fan... it's also the right way to live your life.
6. I am slowly growing tired of not hearing anything about new contracts for Kyle Orton and Brandon Marshall. Kyle is 5 games into this season, and so far, things couldn't be much better. He is steadily becoming more and more comfortable with the offense and he obviously has the skill level to execute the game plan. The longer we wait to give him a new contract, the more expensive it is going to be. Seems like it is time to roll there.
BMarsh is just simply revealing that he is a "One-Of-A-Kind" talent. It really looks as if he is a man among boys out there. I know that it is going to be expensive, but his talents are irreplaceable. He creates match-up problems, which forces Defenses to have to choose how they are going to get beat. Double up Marshall, and get killed by Royal, Gaff, Stokes, Sheffler, Graham... or... Man up Marshall and get eaten by the Beast.
Some may still hang on to Marshall's past issues, but I really believe that those things are behind him. I don't know if I have ever watched a more authentic and up-front interview than his interview with Michael Irvin this Sunday. Honestly, I was proud of him. He owned up to his own failures, and acknowledged his weaknesses, and has made some decisions to move himself into a better place (anybody see Rod Smith come and congratulate BMarsh after the game). It is a must watch interview that will make you smile.
My humble opinion is that the longer we wait to sign these two guys... the more and more expensive they are going to be. However, I also am putting my full confidence in Mr. B, Xanders and McD... they have made very, very few mistakes so far.
Here are a few things that I am not tired of...
1. I am not tired at all of Fourth Quarter Kyle. The guy is a machine so far this year in the second half, and almost without equal in the 4th Quarter. He has a near-perfect QB rating in the final quarter, and already has 3 fourth quarter game winning drives under his belt this season. For those who questioned his ability to take the team upon his shoulders and go "win the game", you should be very, very comforted. This guy is a winner, and I am replacing my old nickname for Kyle "the Glove" Orton and replacing it with "Fourth Quarter Kyle". It just barely beat out by second favorite... Kyle "I'm Better than Cutler" Orton.
2. I am not tired of watching Josh McDaniels go nuts after the game last week. This guy might be a football genius like Big Bill, but at least he has some personality. He is genuine and unbridled at times, and that makes him an immediately like-able guy. With BB, you never really know what is going on with him, but with Josh, he can't keep it inside. When he ran over to his families side of the field, pointed up in the stands and started celebrating, I couldn't help but smile. He deserved to celebrate that win with his family and the fans. He has taken the worst criticism that a head coach could possibly take, and has stuck it to every one of them. He deserved every bit of that emotion on Sunday.
3. What followed was even more awesome, and I don't think I could ever get tired of watching the replay of the event. When Josh went and jumped into the arms of Kenny Peterson, it was one of the coolest moments in football I have ever seen. This game was certainly a big win for the team and players, but Kenny understood that it was a monumental win for his coach. Here is a player that searched out his coach to congratulate and celebrate the win with him. It was an awesome moment, and a moment that spoke volumes about Coach McDaniels and the players who play for him. It is obvious that McDaniels loves his players... but maybe even more than that.... his players love him.
4. I am definitely not tired of those vertical striped socks. I might be the only guy in America that thought those uni's were cool, but I did. And the thing that made them awesome were the socks. I am so hoping for a pair of those for Christmas.
5. I didn't think I could get tired of being 4-0... but I did. Glad we are 5-0... and I will be tired of that come game time on Monday Night! 6-0, Here we come!
GO BRONCOS!!!!

I like Kyle Orton too.
For some reason I just had a flash of Eddie Murphy in makeup saying…

I always look forward to your post
I think Bowlen and the front office are waiting to see what will play out with the collective bargaining agreement. After all Clady and Doom’s contracts are up after this year also and I think other teams would give them even more money than Orton and Bmarsh will command.
by Broncolorado on Oct 13, 2009 3:08 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
Don't think Clady's deal is up this year,
but I think he would be the only guy that would possibly pull a bigger contract that Marsh. Doom is great, but I still think he get’s knocked because of his size. However, now that he is an OLB, his stock goes up by the minute.

I'm sure if Clady's contract was up,
a deal would have already been in the works to keep’em in place. He is only a second year player so that would really be odd to already be in a contract year. As far as Doom goes I believe he has another year left.

Clady
7/25/2008: Signed a six-year, $14.75 million contract. The deal includes $11.415 million guaranteed. Another $2.55 million is available through incentives. 2009: $2,141,250, 2010: $2,569,500, 2011: $2,997,750, 2012: $1.994 million (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent

Contract Timing
Making a new contract in tens of mils range is not a quick and easy thing. I think it takes some of the player’s energy, emotionally, even though agent is doing all the negotiating. I mean, I can’t imagine player not being involved at all, so first he instructs the agent, then lets him hole up with Xanders, then just accepts and signs what they show him after they emerge. Granted, I never was even close to someone negotiating this kind of contract, so I may be wrong. But there just got to be some player involvement. And involvement in the biggest deal of his life is a sure emotional drain on a player. With BMarsh’s and Orton’s contracts, we are talking millions easily moving one way or the other depending on some clause or incentive. Would you want this on your mind as you are head down in the complex playbook (unless you are in the film room or weight room)? Will this kind of pressure help better learn minute details of upcoming opponent’s coverages, which will make the difference on the game day? I’m sure Kyle does not need this kind of distraction on game week, and neither does BMarsh.
So the best timing would be – bye week. I’m looking forward to some contract work done the week after we play SD.

I'm not sure about Clady's contract being up
and don’t know if any other’s are up after this year except Orton,Marshall and Doom.Kuper maybe?
by Broncolorado on Oct 13, 2009 3:12 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
They are up only if there is a collective bargaining agreement
Without one, we have control of them for another year as a restricted free agent instead of unrestricted.

On nfl.com
there is an article stating that Bowlen said that marsh is playing his way into a substantial raise.
"Pleased? We are excited about the proposition of going forward from where we are right now. Pleased? I don't know if you want to say pleased. You may want to hang your hat on pleased. I don't want to hang my hat on nothing right now."
-Brian Dawkins, on the play of the defense
Once he gets his hands on you, there's not much you're going to do. Then you can't outrun him, you can't run around him, you can't really run him over -- so you've just got to deal with it."

Power Rankings...
Power Rankings are for college football and only college football. Thank god the NFL doesn’t allow a computer program, several coaches’ assistants and a bunch of MSM journalists (like Kiszla) to decide who goes to the playoffs and gets crowned champion. If that were the case in the NFL, guys like Clayton and Don Banks would select the damn NFC East to win it all every season.
No rankings.. It’s a big part of reason #1 why the NFL is infinitely better than college football. And I’m a guy that loves college football.
Love the Broncos. Mike Nolan is a genius.

Great post, as always
My hope is that Fourth Quarter Kyle is turning into Full Game Kyle now that some of the growing pains, system changes, and lack-of-glove-love have really started to take hold. It’s a fantastic feeling to know that Kyle can close, but I’m also hopeful that the team can start to open.
I, too, loved the Josh McDaniels moment at the end of the game when he had the crowd going absolutely nuts and then when he jumped up on Peterson (Kenny actually signaled for Josh to make the jump before he got there). It was incredible.
Again, great read!

The Beast
was referred to by Mr B, who gave hiim his props and said if it continues there would be a big raise. I liked the positive reinforcement. I, too, am proud of Marshall’s new-found maturity, and LOVE his on-field presence. I am officially going back to referring to him as “the Beast”. Go Broncos.

I actually left the game threads before the half for the reason you mention, just seems like people are too fast to critique and go negative, I do it myself at times as well so I can relate, but it just seems to be the norm in all parts of life these days…..LOL The games are 60minutes and it isn’t over till it’s over no doubt about that.

I am about as passionate as they come myself, funny thing is my wife claims to hate football, she grew up in a family that never watched it, but she has gradually gotten to where she will sit there and watch it with me. During the NE game she was jumping up and screaming right along with me everytime we scored. I guess I am rubbing off on her, I called her out on it and said I thought she hated football………I just got scowled at.

AB-SA-FREAKIN-LUTELY!!!!
Just got back from spending the Holiday Weekend in Vegas. Had the pleasure of sitting in the Sports Book at Mandalay Bay on Sunday with hundreds of loud mouthed Patriot fans and it seemed like a thousand more that hooted it up for the better part of the game only to walk a way with a lot less money than they started. Not to mention a thousand more excuses as to why a team lost to the Broncos instead of the realization that their team was administered a good old fashioned beat-down.
- I’m absolutely tired of hearing about the two passes that the Patron Saint Brady missed.
- I’m absolutely tired of hearing our QB second guessed. I think we were all more than a little concerned with the accuracy issues the first 4 games of the season. KO put that all to rest Sunday. Two tipped balls and the last throw into the end-zone were really the only blemishes on a day when Mr. Orton carved up the Patsies.
- If I had any concerns at all it would be the lack of pressure on TB. The bottom line is we came up big when we needed to on the defensive side of the ball.
- Brandon Marshal is a talent that is quite frankly out of this world. We are all aware of the issues, but he makes the outrageous look like child’s play.
- And lastly thanks for the rant and thanks to the Denver Bronco’s for a great Vegas weekend!!!!!

Neckbeard
It’s not a great nickname (and for the most part, it’s really a put-down)…but that’s why I want it to to stick. It’s like Yankee: originally, the term was used in a derogatory manner. But when the insulted party starts to gain the advantage, there seems no better way to underscore the point than by adopting the insult as a badge of honor.
So Kyle Orton will be Neckbeard to me, if only because the derogatory name is so completely antithetical to his character and production.

I got tired of all the booing...
When the media and so-called experts are in constant criticism of our beloved Broncos, the many fans that were criticizing and booing (in the scrimmage and preseason games) and calling for McDaniels job and throwing Kyle, the gloves are off, Orton not under, but on to the next bus out of town, I was never in my many years of being a Bronco fan(atic) so ashamed of some of the members of Bronconation. I also got tired of the naysayers and this post needed to be said.
