Are the Bears that much better with Cutler than they were with Orton?
Through 5 games Chicago has the same record in 2009 as it did in 2008 (3-2).
In 2008 they had beaten Indy and Philly; in 2009 they've beaten Pittsburgh .
They’ve lost to almost the same Atlanta team both years (Orton didn't even have Orlando Pace, not that he's what he used to be in his prime).
So are the Bears that much better with Cutler than they were with Orton at Quarterback?

No offense..
.But does it really matter? I mean, the only concern I have with the Chicago Bears is where their 2010 First Round picks ends up since it belongs to the Broncos. Other than that, unless we face them in the Super Bowl, it is irrelevant. I’ll comment when they are on National TV the same way I do for all Prime Time games, nothing more because of Cutler.
The Broncos are 5-0 and are doing it as a team. It doesn’t get an y better than that for me!

I think it matters
We spent all offseason wondering what was happening to our team, wondering if our new head coach was making the right decisions, wondering if those decisions were going to send the Broncos into a tailspin, as reported, or to the playoffs as some of us suspected. Watching what Cutler does for the Bears is just another way to gauge McD’s decisions as they pertain to his system, our team, and the biggest NFL trade in recent history, as well as how Orton’s play stacks up. This trade has been a part of making the Broncos what they are today and its only logical to dissect it and analyze it as the season goes on. For me, it also makes a game I wouldn’t have cared much about, a little more interesting. Cutler’s play seems to be much like last season, exciting yet somewhat inconsistent. I think its nice to validate such a controversial team move with some QB comparison even if they aren’t in our conference.

agreed
once we have Chi towns pick for next year determined I will care about the Bears as much in the future as I have in the past………pretty much not at all, not in our division and we rarely have to play them so I don’t car what they do after this year. I just hope they stink it up this year since we have their pick.

Yes they are better with Cutler than they were with Orton at Quarterback
Here is why: When Orton was QB, the coaches and the fans basically always treated him like a fourth-rounder who would only be good as a backup -when they won, it was the Defense or running game, when they lost, it was all on him -and his noodle-armed weak play was the only thing keeping them from the superbowl. Now with Jay (who has this mystical ability to avoid all criticism and deflect any responsibility from his own mistakes) he is the big-armed-hotshot-pro-bowl-first-rounder Chicago has always wanted and expected their quarterback to be (can you blame them with guys like Favre and Rodgers in the same division?). Well, now that they have him, they can no longer blame the QB position for all their woes. Because they now have what they thought would be the final missing piece, they are forced to look at the rest of the shortcomings of the team. Having Jay will force them to take stock of the rest of their holes and hopefully address them. Unfortunately for them, they don’t have the draft picks next year to help fix those problems. But Jay is their guy now for years to come, and so they will have years to build around him. A QB, no matter how talented and gifted, cannot do it by himself. Rodgers can’t do it without an O-line and running game, neither can the Bears with Jay; Elway needed TD and some Mastermind coaching, etc. Football truly is a Team sport.
For what it’s worth, Orton is a fantastic fit for McDaniels and the new Broncos – and I’m pleased that he’s finally with a coach that trusts and respects him, because he’s such a humble team-first hard worker and leader, he deserves to be given a real chance to grow and shine. Plus we got the Bear’s picks to boot. That’s all I care about. The trade is working for us, so who cares?

well, it’s about time somebody said the truth, instead of "Cutler is responsible for everything good and bad related to the Bears/Broncos. "
the fact is, you guys have an oustanding defense, and the game planning allows for Orton to play into his strengths, which have worked out quite effectively, our OC couldn’t do that for 3 straight QBs now
our “gameplan” allows Cutler to run for his life for 60 minutes… because our Defense is mediocre and injury ridden, and our Oline makes Greenbay’s look like all pros

That’s a phrase I haven’t heard associated to Denver in a long, long time – “outstanding defense”. It’s very nice to hear, and I hope that they can keep it up.
As to your offensive gameplan, that sounds harsh, but seems to be what a lot of fans have said about Turner. If he’s anything like his brother, it’s not surprising. If either were a coach on my team, I wouldn’t have much confidence in them.
If you listen to Chris Collinsworth, though, you’d think that Jay had just fallen from heaven, throwing lasers with pin point accuracy all across the field. It’s kind of sickening. To me, anyways.
Good luck to you, sir!

"throwing lasers with pin point accuracy "
One thing about Jay Cutler is that he can do exactly that. I remember in his first pre season in Denver, I watched him in a couple games and said to my self, “Wow, the ball goes exactly where he wants it to go.” His problem is that sometimes he wants it to go to the wrong place.

He can when he sets his feet, which is almost never… Especially behind that Chicago line.
He throws off his back foot WAY too much, and it affects his deep ball accuracy. He completely sailed the ball over a wide open Hester on more than one occasion

I would love to see what he could do with a decent running game and oline. Even just decent. IMHO he’s pound for pound the best QB in the NFL. Put him on Indy, Pats, Broncs, anywhere he doesn’t get sacked a billion times and he’s the talk of the town guaranteed.

As much as I hated the trade and miss KO playing for my Bears, the trade will do exactly what you stated. Unfortunately, the biggest shortcomings are the GM and coaching staff. They might be replaced if the Bears fail to make the playoffs in 2009, which would grease the way for upgrades on the player personnel side of things. Very nicely written young lady!

Great comment! I agree completely, with one caveat. Jay’s gonna want TOP DOLLAR (at least Rivers + $1!) this offseason, and it’s likely to be big up front and big on the back end as well, so if they’re gonna focus on their weaknesses starting year or two after next, they’re not gonna have much dinero to pay for it! ^^

CBA
The fate of the CBA is certainly a consideration for all teams, and will make rebuilding around a new franchise QB more interesting, that’s for sure. Compiled with the lack of picks next year, and it could take a little longer than perhaps hoped to get things set for a strong playoff run.

Sorry, Colorado Kitten, but Orton failed in Chicago because of the fans and coaches? Is that why Rex Grossman failed too?
They both had great W-L records when playing in Chicago MAINLY because of a great D and Great Running game.
WTF is so hard to understand about that? Anything to make Orton look good and Cutler look bad?
Truth is, Chicago fans (90%) loved Orton and loved Grossman, but the MSM spun it around. Both QB’s played their hearts out (Just Like Cutler).
Look, I’m happy for Kyle Orton. I hope he does great and I’m encouraged he landed on a team with a great D and good running game. He needs that to win!!!

Um, you missed the point
This wasn’t an Orton vs. Cutler post, and she wasn’t calling out the Chicago fans.
The point was simple: there was a lot of emphasis put on the QB position. It happens, this is a QB-driven league. Now that Cutler is the QB, and the wins aren’t going as planned, it highlights other problems that weren’t addressed much (if at all) prior to the season…and that is GOOD for Chicago! Now they have a chance to address those needs with a good QB already in the fold.
Man…she says Cutler will be good for Chicago, and this was the response. Get over yourself, I guess.

Dude get over yourself
you are completely clueless and miss the point. She never said anything bad about Chicago fans. You need to get over yourself. Your own comment could be used against you. " a team with a great D and good running game. He needs that to win!!!" Jay Cutler needs the same thing. Lovie Smith is letting Cutler sling the ball around like Shanahan did. I believe Cutler threw it 49 times last week. I thought they were a running team. The fact is the Bears have shot Oline and below average defense. They are moving away from what makes them the Bears and that is running the ball. When Cutler throws the ball 49 times you can almost guarantee he will lose. Here is a fact for you Orton is a WINNER and Cutler is Loser so far. Cutler has not had a winning season playing football since high school. Get over yourself. Maybe you should think before you post next time

Worst post ever? Get over myself? WTF don't I understand?
I know the whole Cutler/Orton subject is still a raw one for both the Bears and the Broncos, but you don’t have to be rude to me, especially since I feel you are projecting your own defensive perspective onto the post to the point where I think you completely misread it.
I didn’t say Orton failed is Chicago. I said he never really got treated like he was a franchise QB. Orton himself has admitted that he’s never had the trust and confidence from his coach that he has from McDaniels. That says a lot. And frankly:
They both had great W-L records when playing in Chicago MAINLY because of a great D and Great Running game.
This kinda proves my point, doesn’t it?
Cutler doesn’t have to continually defend and prove his worth to Chicago the way Orton did, because Cutler came in as the unquestioned franchise QB Chicago has wanted. This means the Bears now are forced to look at the rest of the team’s problems (and hopefully address them) without the spector of not having a franchise QB clouding the analysis. I didn’t think my point was opaque in the slightest.
Don’t you think Denver has been struggling with this since Elway retired? After a decade of every QB playing under John’s shadow, we are now having to rethink who the Broncos are and what a Broncos QB looks like – so far I’m quite pleased with the redefinitions Josh brought with him from NE…which, BTW, has NOTHING to do with how Chicago chooses to define itself with Jay going forward.

Hey, I'll take two first rounders and their noodle armed QB for a 5-0 record. :)
And a heart-felt THANK YOU to the Main Stream Media.
Thank you for HYPING up out former QB all offseason long. Thank you for tricking Da Bears into giving up the world for basically the same results.
I must write Jaime Dukes and thank him and all the rest for allowing the Broncos to make the steal of the year in this trade….

Well, now Zappa
Thank you for tricking Da Bears into giving up the world for basically the same results.
That’s not exactly what happened. Call it Orton for Cutler and let’s call it even, for the moment. They also got Knox with our 5th, and he’s looking good. We got Ayers, who’s looking good so far, and 1/2 of Quinn, who is ??
Plus next year’s #1, who could turn into a flotch.

I think we can thank Shanahan for getting the Broncos so much value for Cutler.
Cutler did not look quite as good last night as he did in many games for the Broncos. Shanahan traded up to draft him, benched Plumber to bring in the new “franchise quaterback”, and then helped him look better (because Shanahan was darn good at creating offense most of the time).
In my opinion Cutler has great talent, but he seems impatient and (as we all know) he just seems to have a piss poor attitude. I am glad he has moved on and the Broncos got all they got for him.

wait, what?
Then how come Cutler didn’t make the play on 4th down last night? How come he’s 0-0 in the playoffs (same as Orton), and was 0-3 last year when his team needed to win just one game to get to the playoffs? Why is the non-playmaker 27-12 as a starter?
And what about when Cutler’s “big plays” benefit the other team?

Actually, he's 26-12
unless you have a time machine, in which case thanks for the tip!

One thing I don't miss
Cutler seemed to either have a phenomenal game or just blow it and take the team down with him. It was so inconsistent, you didn’t know what Cutler you would get week in and week out. After doing this routine for 3 years, it’s relieving to watch him do it with another teams season. I was always behind him, I would always back his excuses and give him even more then he needed. Now that were seperated its easy to look at the relationship from a distance, I loved him blindly. Unfortunately is looks like Bear fans are doing the same thing, but I can’t blame them either.
Everyone wants to say Cutler plays for a different team, who cares about him. I do, the way he treated us fans as he left. How the MSM somehow fell in love with him, and treated the Broncos like we traded Obama for Castro. We( I ) need to be validated that Denver was right and Cutler, The MSM, and all of the Denver fans who jumped the wagon were wrong.
Enough of that rant.

….will never, ever, happen with Kyle Orton. You can book that, and you can call me a moron if it ever happens.

Ya, I'm done with it all too.
I harbor no ill-will towards the Bears and will continue to maintain the Chicago is one of my all-time favorite cities, even though the hawks and Cubs reside there. :)
But I just got sick of the waiting with Cutler. The waiting for him to figure it out. The waiting for him to quit shooting the team in the foot.
I’m glad the trade was made and I’m happy with this year’s Broncos. But there’s no way we could have had this year’s team and had JC as well. So I’m glad he’s gone.
Blues. Cardinals. Broncos. Rockies (when not playing St. Louis!).

Hate it when the pizza guy
shows up too early or too late. I’ve learned that a local place will deliver a “take and bake” pizza that you put in the frig until 15 minutes or so before you’re ready to pop it in the oven. Totally on time.

Is it too late to jump on the bandwagon lauding Colorado_Kitten's comment?
Except for the rest of the trade the Bears are no worse off because Cutler “requires” no coaching and they have none to offer. They simply wanted a finished product who could be slotted into place, and given their inability to coach the position Jay’s as good as they could have gotten. Orton could never have realized his potential with them, because he’s smart and he is coachable. Denver’s way better off, even without the sweeteners to the deal, because Orton’s upside (thanks to his intelligence and coachability) is higher than Jay’s and Denver has the coaching he can use that Cutler couldn’t/wouldn’t. Given that McDaniels (in my opinion) wanted Orton more than Jay anyway, but got a king’s ransom of draft picks in addition, makes it a heist of epic proportions. I felt back when it happened that McDaniels played the Bears, and I haven’t seen anything since to change that opinion.
