MHR Staff Revealed and Unmasked!
MHR announces the unmasking of the staff!
After hitting 3 million vistors, MHR Editor in Chief "TheSportsGuru" asked the staff to stop using "internet" type names and moved MHR further into the realm of professionalism. The staff is no longer undercover, and will be using their own names.
MHR's staff is now part of an elite fraternity of famous unmaskings, such as "The Unknown Comic", "The Masked Magician" and of course, "Kiss". While we may be prettier that Kiss unmasked, and while we write better quality material than the Unknown Comic, we still can't get together and sing "Beth" very well.
Perhaps at the MHR Convention?
Anyway, thanks to all of the members of MHR for making MHR #1. The staff is proud to serve you, and using our real names is just a fun way to top off our 6-0 Denver Broncos start and to celebrate the 3 million mark.
Here's to the next million!

does that make me staff? ha
A truth can only be expressed and enveloped in words if it is one-sided. Everything that is thought and expressed in words is one-sided, only half the truth; it all lacks totality, completeness, unity.
I used to tell chicks that I was on staff with MHR...
…before I really was. It didn’t get me anywhere with the ladies.
But go ahead, tell folks you are on staff. It might work better for you!

PS, is it OK to still use your HT codename when leaving comments?

I know that.
But it still throws me on the site. I go by my last name at work, and my first name with friends, and HT at MHR. Now, a few years later, it is just “Steve” at MHR, and that is as weird to me as being called “HT” at home or work would be.

For those of you who don’t know, Mdierk is the original Horse Tracks reporter and founder. He was one of the originals at MHR, along with Jeremy (Styg), Zappa (Tim), and me (hooserteacher). Time constraints took Mdierk from our grasp, but he is (how do the young people say it?) an original gangstah. lol

For now, here it is...
Guru – John
Editor in Chief / Founder. The boss. John started MHR, and makes all decisions regarding the site. He grew the site, and also hosts / produces the radio segment that proceeds from the site. His wife is famous for picking more winners in the 2008 NFL season than each and every staff member.
Styg50 – Jeremy
Associate Editor. John’s right hand man, Jeremy was the second member to become a staffer. He writes for the site, and has all of the skills chicks dig (engineering, IT, etc). He does some engineering work on those crab boats in Alaska you hear about on “Deadliest Catch”. He is known for some of the most memorable stories at MHR (including breaking the story on Bus Cook, Jay Cutler’s agent) that went beyond MHR into the national scene.
Hoosierteacher – Steve
Associate Editor. Steve was the first member to become a staffer. He writes an instructive column (MHR University) and the game preps (MHR Chalk Talk). He has a background as a defense coordinator at each level below the college level, and has a special place in his heart for the study of football systems and their history. Steve granted a request a few months ago to have “MHR University” translated into Mandarin Chinese for a Taiwanese publication.
Zappa – Tim
Contributor. Tim was one of the original staff (along with Jeremy and Steve) for a long time before the more recent contributors were brought on board. Tim is known for his fanatical devotion to the team, and his passion for all things “Broncos” was one of the things that brought Tim aboard. Tim, though still a young man, writes most of the historical articles for MHR.
NycBroncosfan – Douglas
Is the MHR “newsman”. While he contributes stories from time to time, Doug has one of the hardest jobs at MHR. He writes “Horse Tracks”, a Broncos news aggregator for MHR. This is a daily endeavor, but allows MHR members to find all of their Broncos news from other sites at MHR.
BroncoBear – Dr. Emmet Smith
Contributor. Emmet is a physician, and the MHR expert on medical affairs dealing with player injuries and conditioning. He is also a top notch writer, and writes some of the most moving profiles of players and the Broncos in general.
TedBartlett509 – Ted
Contributor. Like Steve, Ted has a coaching backround (linemen). He writes “Shallow Thoughts and Near Sighted Observations”, which goes over his analysis of the Broncos, games played the previous week around the NFL, and his thoughts about players and teams in general. He has an excellent eye for college players. He also writes, produces, and narrates an instructive broadcast called “Lighting Up the Scoreboard”, which covers potential plays for upcoming games, explains them, and shows both play schematics and a “Madden” game video of the play.
Mdierk – Matt
Staffer emeritus. Matt was one of the original staffers (with Jeremy, Steve, and Tim). He started the “Horse Tracks” column, and was known for finding stories not only about the Broncos, but obscure stories about former players and hard to find events dealing with the team. While not currently a staffer (personal commitments), Matt’s hard work has kept him listed on the staff rolls at the bottom of the main page in acknowledgment of his contributions to the site. He still keeps up with the site.
CaliforniaJoe – ?
Graphic artist. CJ is the guy behind our cool graphics. When MHR needs a logo for a series or column, it goes to CJ. That’s a good thing, becuase the rest of us can’t even do stick figures (as evidenced by Steve’s “Xs and Os” diagrams).
SirSam – ?
MHR’s original artist, who developed many of the site’s great artwork that is still seen today.
~
Most of the writers above have had MHR work linked by Sports Illustrated online, CBS Sportsline, Yahoo Sports, and other major media outlets. MHR is proud to have a staff that can be accessed by members (both in comments and by e-mail).
MHR recognizes that the staff primarily keeps MHR moving. But the heart and soul of MHR is the postings and comments of the members. They are the ones who create the friendly atmosphere, write intelligent comments, and have made an international family out of Denver Bronco fans, most of whom are not even from Colorado.
So that’s the roster (names to handles), and you know a little about us (more in the profiles section). But get to know your fellow members too. The members are the folks who have made MHR what it is today; international – friendly – insightful – intelligent – and growing.

This makes sense and I am glad to see it.
I have been lurking and occasionally posting around these parts for two years now. I remember the Bikini Thread (and how glorious it was, though like all bright flames, it’s light burned out too quick). I come to MHR every day. I spend WAY more time here then I probably should. It is the first site I go to everytime I open up Firefox. It just is. This place is a great gathering of friends and acquaintances with whom I share a common interest and it is an honor to be apart of this community.
All that being said, I have been wondering when this site would move beyond the typical “blog” mold and break out into something more. From top to bottom this site is managed and operated with outstanding results. The reporting done here is far and away better then that you get from the MSM. The commentaries I find myself turning to before I go read the Peter King’s and Co. HorseTracks gives me all of my broncos news in one place, every morning, ready for me and my coffee (which is made even more impressive by the fact Denver is Mountain time and I am EST. Outstanding attention to detail there).
I have wondered when national attention would start turning here. It has been and more will come. Particularly given the success of this site’s point of focus (Denver Broncos). You guys using your true names does two important things IMO;
1) Though the entire staff here has maintained absolute accountability from all I have seen, using your real names just adds to that and takes away from those who would say “They are just bloggers hiding behind user names”.
2) This improves the likelyhood of this site becoming very much a “for profit” type of place which I happily encourage. Already it has begun with the ComCast endorsement. You all work very hard here and I think it would be justice for you all to earn a commendable salary. Each of you deserves it and I hope that happens for you all.
Great job guys. Thank you for MHR. It is a place myself and many others consider a home. That has real meaning.

As nearly a lifelong Californian....
MHR is quite important to me too if only because its the only place to know and converse with other Bronco fans. I’d never had that before…I like it.
I feel like I was just fortunate enough to find this place earlier than most.
To John, MHR is like his baby that he has nursed and helped grow…but in a way, all of us who love this place feel that way to a degree. Some more than others, but anyone who takes the time to comment and post are all helping contribute to this websites success.
I have been severely limited this year because of real life constraints, but hopefully I’ll get back to normal by next season. I’ll still post, but I know I am not nearly as prolific as I once was…luckily for me(and everyone else), MHR has way more worthwhile content than I can even keep up with. How many MSM sites have “non staff” content that is worthwhile and even outnumbers the content put out by the staff? Yeah, none. lol
I am truly amazed at how well MHR has been able to expand like it has without having its core values erode…Bronco fans are the classiest group of fans on Earth.

It is a great pleasure to meet you. John, Jeremy, Steve, Tim, Douglas, Dr. Smith (Oh my God, Dr. Smith? I loved Lost In Space!) and Ted.
In my years of moving around for my job you guys have helped me with my Broncos fix. When I could only see the National games (and where I lived in MO even the national games were hard to come by because of how secluded the area was. I had a 25 ft high TV antenna and still could only get one channel) I came to this site to get my Broncos news and scores.
Thank you for being an Oasis for people like me and I will continue to add my two cents worth when I can.
