Is this regret?
I am, admittedly, not an expert at "reading between the lines" when looking at what a person says. But, we may have just seen the first twang of regret from old friend Jay.
I don't mean to rehash the past, I know we have had too much of this subject over these last few months... so this isn't a "Jay Bash" post, I just thought the quote was interesting and that I would link to it and include the quote in the fanpost. I would like to hear all of your opinions on what you think Jay actually meant when he said these things...
Here is the link:
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/news/story?id=4580292
And here is the quote:
"A lot of people think I'm wishing the worst for the Broncos and Josh McDaniels. I don't," Cutler said. "I watched the game last night. I have friends on that team. I talked to some of them afterwards and congratulated them. They're playing really good football. I'm happy for those guys offensively, defensively.
"This league is funny. It's all about timing," he said. "You could be one of the best players in the league but if you're not in the right system, you don't have the right people around you, there're a lot of different aspects that go into making a player or breaking a player. It's working for Kyle. It's working for Josh, and it's working for the Broncos. They've got a good thing going."
It was cool of him to say what he did about the Broncos, and how he doesn't wish bad things on us... but that last paragraph, to me, seems like a slight dig at the Bears organization, and an admittance of possible regret on not being with this team any longer. Thoughts?

I read that quote as well and tagged it for Horse Tracks – to me he’s just crediting Orton and saying that he was hidden in a system that did not fit his talents in Chicago. I don’t read that as a reflection of how he views the Bears’ offense and his own (Cutler’s) fit within it…

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cutler as a journeyman.
Just another Jeff George. Raw talent, strong arm, “unique” personality, and never fits in well anywhere.
Then again, maybe he gets some WRs and OLs in Chi-town and has a great career.
Whatever. Orton for President! Thank you Chicago!

then he should end up on the Raiders at some point
that should be fun.

His Redzone INTs per game would improve a lot...
…since they’ll never get near it.
Booyah.

Who knew that if Cutler wanted to play with a real defense that he should have stayed with the Broncos…

Bears defense
not too shaby this year, considering the injuries at linebacker. Turnovers and the lack of a consistent running game are responsible for the two losses.

they don’t get any pressure on QBs and the seconday isn’t so hot either. other than that, they’re defense is okay. they get great play from their linebackers and they have a fairly respectable D against the running game
that said, i think benson lights them up for 100+ next week

Too true. How ironic!
I don’t know about Jay showing regret that he left or not. But I do know that Jay misses Clady, Hamilton, Wiegmann, Kuper and Harris. Our o-line is one of the best in the league.

hmmmm
well in terms of dollars and sense, Orton has it in spades, while Cutler….hmmmm.
not so much.

Cook (&Cutler) bet on the wrong horse, after in effect cheating the house at the best Horse Track you could hope to run on. Bears repeating.

Honestly? This is what impressed me the most from that article
“We’ve got to get better. I’ve got to get better. The whole team in general, we’ve just got to do some things to help us win ballgames,” Cutler said. “We’re just not getting it done with the turnovers and interceptions.”
“I’ve got to get better.” Admission of the need for his own improvement is a long long way from where he was at the end of last season, happy with his own personal stats and achievments, and not really seeming to care that his team had just lost the division. Honestly, I liked his tone throughout the entire thing…sounds like he’s grown up some since Denver, and that’s a really great thing.
Chicago seems to be good for Cutler, and Cutler is good for Chicago.
Denver has been good for Orton, and Orton has been good for Denver.
Win/Win.
FIN.

I've noticed he always says "we"
when he’s admitting shortcomings.

Don't see regret from Jay
Great comments on Kyle, that alone shows some growth. Jay’s alter ego is that of the gunslinger hero, Chicago wanted such a gunslinger. He might envy the record, but week in and week out he is much happier where he can win or lose the game on his own strength. Or at least that is how I see it.

Hard to imagine there isn't some regret
The irony is that McDaniels could have been the best and exact thing Cutler needed. Cutler has the raw talent, McDaniels could teach him the rest! With the Bears, Culter is often times making some of the same mistakes in terms of reads, locking in on the receiver, throwing into mutliple coverage/extremely tight windows, red zone turnovers, etc. It is clear that Cutler absolutely needs a McDaniels type to become a complete QB. He had his chance, but his ego wouldn’t permit it. Orton is the anti-Culter. No ego. “I would just as soon hand the ball off 40 times if that means winning!” Orton also fully embraced this opportunity from moment one and has encouraged McDaniels to be hard on him as he wants to be the best player he can! I hope Jay recognizes soon that there’s an intellectual aspect of Quarterbacking that has nothing to do with arm strength. I think Kyle Orton is on his way to reading defenses, calling audibles and finding the open man in this offense on the level of a Peyton Manning. On top of that, he is a great leader and fierce competitor, which he shows in spades at the end of games when he is closing out the opponent. I believe that Orton’s intangibles are as rare as Jay’s arm. I grew up in Illinois a Bears fan, and I hope Jay dedicates himself to the hard work necessary to correct the things that don’t come to him naturally!

He could have benefitted from McDaniels' teaching
if he’d been willing, but as I recall McDaniels trying to give him pointers in the infamous Saturday get-together was one of the things that pissed him off. His uncoachability was one of the reasons, maybe the main one, McDaniels wanted to get rid of him. I think you’re exactly right about Orton’s intangibles. He’s also very clutch, a fierce competitor who goes for the jugular with a deceptive aw-shucks demeanor.

maybe that's Orton's secret power
the ability to fly under the radar; to just be perceived as going along for the ride; to be easily taken for granted; to be Kyle “Gosh I’m Just Happy To Be Here” Orton…lulling the opponents to look at other things, slowly wearing them down…and then suddenly becoming Kyle “The Closer” Orton in the fourth quarter.

This is the part I thought he might have been alluding to himself… But y’all are probably right, I’m just reading too much into it.
