Report from SD (going to every Broncs game 'til they lose)
Stil haven't made it back from San Diego yet but I have some things to report.
- Qualcomm is 50 - 60% louder than Mile High. Sad but true. I will address my ideas to get back the old Mile High noise at the bottom.
- SD fans suck! Beer spilled on us when Eddie scored his first TD. Peanuts, trash, etc. Thought I was in Oakland.
- We REALLY got to Phyllis with yelling our "HUT! HUT!.... HUT!!" as loud as we could! We listened to tape of him before the game to get his tone just right. It worked. Orton was on the leg movement, Phillip on the vocal.
- Thanks Champ for throwing your glove my way after the game. Chargers blood on it too... nice.
- Chargers fans are incredibly loud especially in the northwest end zone but they are incredibly stupid for cheering (loudly!) when they have the ball.
- Chargers fans also stand the ENTIRE GAME. Props to that.
How do we get the old mile high magical noise back? First and foremost have Pat Bowlen personally send a communication to his people stating that he will not tolerate his security people telling Broncos fans to sit down... especially on 3rd downs.
In fact, nowhere in the NFL can a fan be forced to sit when standing in front of his or her own seat. You can be respectful and still do this.
Folks we have got to STEP UP THE NOISE IN MILE HIGH!!! If anyone wants me to email an audio of how loud it was in Qualcomm let me know.
The CLUB LEVEL (my section included) has got to step it up. We comprise 12% of the seats yet the wine and cheese level is totally lackadaisical when it comes to cheering and making noise.
We can:
- Pound on seat backs in front of you (for those in front of you that are standing)
- Stand on all 3rd and 4th down plays (at the very least)
- Refuse to accept Denver Broncos security requests to sit down. They need to be trained on what the NFL policy really is.
- Time your cheers well... if your throat hurts wait until the QB goes under center
- Sit on all Broncos offensive snaps and be quiet (we've got this one down pat baby)

Decibel meter
Would having a decibel meter for the fans to see on the scoreboard while on Defense help?
by jimmyray on Oct 21, 2009 12:07 PM MDT reply actions 2 recs
good idea!
It would be great for people to have a visual of how loud it is on the field. Maybe a meter that worked up to an ‘offsides’ level to get people motivated.

even better
On that decibel level meter, have a mark that indicates the average level that other rival stadiums usually exhibit (SD’s Q noise, Arrowhead). That way it kicks up the 12th man competition up that much more.

I will have to respectfully disagree...
with you on the crowd noise. I was close to the field for the games against Dallas and NE the stadium was extremely loud. As somone who has been to Arrowhead it was actually louder than Arrowhead during those games. I"m sure the acoustic resonance in Club Level is different than at field level so you might not be getting the full effect up there. But trust me the players for both teams noticed the crowd noise and commented on it. I felt it was as good as the Old Mile High.
Still we have to bring the crowd noise every week. Stomp your feet and screem loud no matter what down and distance. But yes, please be quiet when the Broncs have the ball.

Cowboys game
The last 2 downs of the Cowboys game is exactly what I’d like to see more CONSISTENTLY throughout the game. Again, I’m just asking for 3rd and 4th downs here. The majority of that game was quite tepid.
Can we be as loud for the upcoming Steelers game as we were for Jay Cuntler’s preseason return??

jimmy...really appreciate your enthusiasm and spirit...
And, I was with you until your spelling error in your last sentence of this comment, not needed and not funny…Just let your post speak for itself, just my opinion and/or suggestion…Thanks

I appreciate that comment...
I don’t want to change the subject…. especially because I think so little about him anymore but I’ve gotten so used to spelling it that way and wasn’t intending to.

It's loud up in the cheap seats at the very tippy top fo the stadium, too
And all the Bronco fans bang on the metal support at the very back, stomp, clap, scream, jump…the place shakes! I guess the moral of the story is – don’t sit club level.

You guys up high rock!
Not really knocking the top or bottom sections. I was in the south endzone when Champ picked Brady and went 99 yards with gallons of beer spraying up in the air.
However, I was also on the 50 yard line 20th row for the AFC Championship and was repeatedly asked by fellow Bronocs fans to “sit down in front!” when the Steelers had a 4th down at our 45!
That’s the kind of stuff we need to steer away from.

seriously?
That’s just amazing to me. Sit down? Whaaaaat?

... we made a pact to go to every game...
… til they lose. We laughed… they were 3-0 against bad teams. Who’da thunk?!
Wife’s not too happy about it though.

You actually got one of Champ's gloves after the game?
If so then you are one lucky dude. Thanks for the run-down. Qualcomm can get quite loud, however I don’t live in Denver so I can’t compare. I somehow doubt it is 50-60% louder though.
Some SD fans do suck. You must have been around the bad ones because I have been to several games and never had to deal with anything. Oh, and I have never been to a game DEN/SD game down here where the fans were standing the whole game. Not saying they weren’t for MNF, just not when I am there.
San Diego is Denver’s second home. Tons of Bronco fans down here.

Where was that?
To be honest… I could not see anyone standing all the way around the stadium. I got about 45 seconds of butt time during one of those ridiculous MNF TV timeouts.

It's not yet the old Mile High
and it’s going to be difficult to equal that. There are a number of reasons, but primarily because the makeup of the crowd has changed. I could go into a whole thesis on how the average guy has been priced out of the stadium – thus your contention that the upper decks are doing fine, but that’s just too long and sounds like whining. Suffice it to say that I think the Invesco (man, I hate that name) crowd can do better and anyone going to the game should take it upon themselves to try to change the culture.
Go Broncs!

I went to the game too!
My seats were behind the Broncos sideline about half way up.

Hey jimmy
I was at the san diego game monday and it was SOOOOOOOO LOUD! I mean, it was electric. Ive only been to one game in denver and qualcomm seemed stadium so much louder. I also noticed as well that no one was sitting down for a single play which was unbelivable. Howver, i noticed this in the field level section where i was and it might of been b/c the stadium is so outdated, the first 8 rows need to stand to see over the players and therefore everyone behind them stands. but still props to them.
I was abke to get marshall autograph (again) before the game. Can i ask you in what part of the stadium did champ throw his glove to you. Was it above the tunnel where they were leaving or somewhere else. Thanks! great game!
by Calibroncoboy on Oct 21, 2009 5:00 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
We were just above the Broncos tunnel...
… but had to walk over to it from our seats after the game. Some Charger yahoo grapped onto it after I had it and, let’s just say he was NOT gonna get that glove! ;)
Can’t figure out how to put a pic of it up here but the spot of blood on it was a great touch.

Mile High was very loud for the Dallas and NE games
I was in section 131 for both games and it was the loudest I have heard the stadium since the AFC playoff game against the Patriots. It takes defense to make a loud crowd!
Upon watching Monday’s game on tv, it seemed that you could hear cheering from Broncos fans when Rivers was sacked. How many Broncos fans attended?
by keeperbearUK on Oct 21, 2009 9:11 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
I agreee about the noise for the Boys/Pats games....
… for the last few defensive stands. Let’s be that loud the entire game and shut ’em down before they ever get a chance!!
Just try to match Dawkins energy folks!!!

I was in section116 (North EndZone)
Lower level for the Pat’s game and I thought it was louder than I’ve heard it on TV. I lost my voice for 3 days so I know I gave it my all. The fans around me were pretty into it too.

You get that splitting headache?
After home games my temples hurt pretty bad. It’s all I can do to give a couple more hoots walking down the ramps outside the stadium.

Well, not quite
I did pace myself and was quiet(er) when the Offense was on the field. Gotta let Kyle give the cadence, ya know?
