Some seemingly unimportant observations (part 2)
Are you kidding me??????????? The Broncos are 6-0 !!!!!!!!! Come on besides Rod Smith and "befree" and the rest of the 13-3 crowd who thought this was possible??????? I for one can admit I was "cautiously optimistic" what a difference 6 weeks can make!!!! Well now all of us who didn't completely believe can now start to really believe!!!! I know it isn't easy, because of all the pain of getting all excited just to be let down, or should I say completely devastated by the Broncos (ie... last three games last year), we can now come up for air and see that OMG this is not a rebuilding year!!!! But why??????
Wow nice to see you after the jump, glad you could make that huge hurdle, anyway may I begin
Observation 1
Just exactly why are the Broncos an unbelievable 6-0?????
1. a miraculous once in an NFL lifetime catch?
2. an "easy" opponent
3. an "easy" opponent
4. Dallas just didn't show up
5. Brady couldn't get the job done
6. two lucky fluky ST touchdowns by Eddie
These are are really insults to the Broncos team but the last one, to me, is a real insult, the following two articles seem to indicate that without Eddies two touchdowns the Broncos couldn't have won. Cuz it was his runs that sparked the win....
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/20/royals-pair-of-returns-keep-broncos-unbeaten/
http://cbs4denver.com/broncos/denver.broncos.san.2.1258375.html
What I find offensive about that is all the ingredients that really made a win happen seem to be put in second or third place!!! Honestly the touchdowns were great and make for really good high light film but if you look at it from a different viewpoint I think things change a lot. Let's say Eddie get's tackled at the 45 of Denver... I feel that would have worked to Denver's advantage in the following ways...
1. The Broncos would have been able to even up the time of possesion
2. Keep Rivers and the Chargers off the field thus scoring less points
3. Denver could have still scored points even if it was only 3 they would have kept some of the Chargers points off the scoreboard.
4. The defense would have had more oppurtunities to score.
5. The defense was on the field way too much, after doing thier job and forcing a punt in one case they were right back out there. OK maybe this is a weaker argument.
With all that said, how after you look at the second half stats, do you not believe Denver would have won this game????Ok maybe I am reading too much into these articles but it does seem like they are saying the Broncos didn't so much win the game as much as the Chargers gave it away!
Observation 2
I really liked this post by John
http://www.milehighreport.com/2009/10/20/1093015/the-san-diego-chargers-the-scut
I do not like to "beat" people I just love to play the game whether it is football or basketball or chess. Win or lose I walk away from the game sweating and just happy to have interacted with others and have some fun. But I "HATE" a trash talker... or someone that comes across like they "DESERVE" to win, they are like bullies and that is when I get into the game and relish laying a licking on the person or persons needing a humbling!!! I had a bowling league experience that any of you that agree with this line of reasoning would LOVE to hear!!!
Observation 3
I was soooooooooooooooooooo wrong about Kyle Orton!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The man is gold!!!! I know he is going to have some mediocre games in the future and someone will look back at this post and say HA you were wrong, but I will give credit where credit is due!!!! Boydy had this guy nailed and caught some flack for expressing his optimism and some of that flack came from me!!! I don't know if Boydy is a prophet or just a good judge of charchter but I won't question his calls from here on out!!!!!!
Observation 4
Where the heck did this Kool-aid thing come from? I even here it being said on Espn and elsewhere!!! Was it not Mike Clark who started this or was it someone else somewhere else. Any help here would be great!!!
Observation 5
I have adopted McD in my heart and in my head!!! I know I am a step behind the players, coaches and a lot of people at MHR but I am miles ahead of the MSM... um can someone pass me a full glass of the Kool-aid!!!!
Observation 6
The NFL did not seem to want to touch the Stoke touchdown but instead focused on the Bmarsh kickin' the ball penalty... bummer so this is gonna generate a poll...
Observation 7
Retired
Observation 8
Some Espn reporter shot out the possibility of Shanny taking over the Bolts and I started to feel a little panic and then all of a sudden I didn't... hmmmmmmmm

Welcome to the 13-3 crowd
Nice to see another member. I’ve been a resident of La La Land from the time I joined MHR — and had a few people thinking I was less than sane (but that’s an occupational hazard for a special ed teacher, so no worries).
Responses to your observations:
- — We’re an unbelievable (though that is changing with many MSM writers) because no-one believed that we could survive the turmoil of the off-season. What Bowlen and McD did defied conventional wisdom.
- — I totally agree. If the opponent is a good sport, I just want a win. If they’re arrogant, I want to rub their noses in my win.
- — Agreed on boydy’s assessment. He swayed me very quickly into the Orton camp. I still have a gut feeling that Orton will prove to be a very special quarterback in McD’s system.
- — the kool-aid is prepared in a very special apparatus deep in the heart of La La Land. I thought Mike had started it, but I seem to recall him commenting that someone else had originated the expression. Btw, if you take up residence in La La Land, you’ll have kool-aid on tap in the kitchen. :D
- — this is me passing you a full pitcher of kool-aid. Better late to the party than never showing up at all.
- — the MSM showed some smarts, they’re already looking foolish for having dissed the Broncos throughout the off season and through the first 3 or 4 games of the regular season, so they’re not wanting to continue to look like fools.

there was a girl scout meeting going on here
so i was watching the game in my daughter’s room, and my wife and daughter demanded that I come running out to tell them every time something good happened (they did get to watch most of the 1st half, and about 1/2 of the 4th quarter) and we all went nuts at the end of the game.
I’ll ditto your invite, if you ever find yourself in so cal, let me know & we can catch our Broncos on TV

Oh by the way I added an 8th observation what did you think about that one?

well, he already has the basic personnel to duplicate his last 10 years of coaching
;-p
jk
I’ve heard his name bandied about a lot with various teams. I think if he went to SD, the Chargers would have to dump A J Smith as GM, the two of them would never be able to coexist in the same front office.

I think your right...
then again maybe he has a new found humility and wants to just coach… or maybe we’ll see him do a “Big Tuna” thing and just stay in the front office somewhere

About the poll..
I remember in one of the Steelers-Ravens games last year, someone (Holmes?) caught the ball right on the goal line like that, with their feet in the end zone. The debate when the call was challenged was: did the ball break the plane? Even though it was called a TD, it was not because the receiver had both feet in, but because the ball had broken the plane.

Let me tell ya I think I read every post FINALLY on this post...
http://www.milehighreport.com/2009/10/20/1092408/if-you-find-you-have-to-defend
and I still am not sure, I thought Spocks post on that site referencing that NFL replay had pretty much put it to bed but I thought I would throw it out there.

I think a lot of it's based on perspective
people forget the “plane of the endzone” sits on the front edge of the white line that marks the beginning of the end zone.
And the refs did not see anything which would convince them to overturn the call on the field.

Hooray for taking a baseball bat to the dead horse
They actually said that the play was confirmed, not that the play stands. The difference is, “we don’t have proof that the ruling on the field is wrong, so let’s go with that,” versus, “Norv is an idiot and the TD is absolutely a TD.”

ROTF and LOL
“I just got a visual” of someone just whacking away at a dead horse and it was sooooooo pitiful and I was trying to see how that correlated to Bshrouts reply and then I remembered the 350 + replies on the other post and I am sure if you read every one of those it would be like that poor individual I had a vision of at the beginning of this reply. Either way I did see another picture today that sure looked like Stoke was over the line and had the ball in his possession before he rolled out of the EZ just my two cents.

Drinking the Kool-Aid
It’s a funny expression and often used but Drinking the Kool-Aid has a deadly serious and very dark origination. It’s original meaning suggested utter devotion to a cause to the point of self destruction. It originated when the followers of the Rev Jim Jones drank cyanide laced Kool-Aid in a mass suicide at Jonestown, French Guyana in Nov 18, 1978. They drank at the behest of and devotion to their leader but it is rumored that Jones’ gunmen forced them to drink and later put a bullet in Jones’ head. 900 people died most of them children forced to Drink the Kool-Aid by their parents.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonestown
It is very funny now a days but it originated in a situation that was utterly tragic and horrific.

Wish I could claim that . . . ;-p
my uncle had done some accounting work for Jones before he moved to Guyana.
I’m glad that we’ve taken a dark expression and turned it into something that brings joy to people. :D
Btw, broncorat, a really big word of thanks for your explanation.

OMG I completely forgot about that...
I wish I hadn’t asked now… although now that time has passed and a new nuance has been added I hope the pain of those days have been eased and the expression doesn’t bring to mind the past…

Love Observation #1
I pointed out virtually the same in a reply to another thread in my normal somewhat sarcastic manner.
Maybe it because we have not dominated on the scoreboard although we have done so in almost every other phase of the games we have played. Maybe it is because the pundits are still comparing the 2009 Broncos with the 2009 team, and their opponents the like.
Good to see we continue to ride our “luck” though. As long as they still keep thinking that, that we have a soft schedule, other sides are missing key players, if but for three or four plays the game could have had a different result then they will continue to misjudge us. That I rather like. They can continue to misjudge us and underrate us right through the playoffs.
I am savouring every minute of this “Lucky” season and long may it continue.
I have so many friends some I haven't even used yet
