These are Kyle Orton's fourth-quarter stats this season: 29-for-42 (69 percent) for 511 yards, four touchdown, no interceptions and a 142.1 passer rating. I wouldn't call that game managing. Orton is another guy who could end up being only a restricted free agent rather than an unrestricted, based on whether or not there is a CBA extension by March (very unlikely at this point), but regardless it makes sense for both sides to explore an extension. Getting Orton signed at a manageable figure won't preclude drafting and developing a young quarterback at some point, and the Broncos might not be poised to pick too high for at least this year, anyway. All the guy has done is win football games, and, if I recall correctly, that's pretty much what this whole thing is about.

Other than his total whiff on the T. Brandstater signing,

it seemed like a good way to sum up the situation.

agreed

but see this is the same thing they said in New England. They said Bledsoe was getting older and that BB needed to address QB in the draft sometime. at the time Brady was already on the roster. No one (MSM) can take credit for saying how good Brady would be until it happened then they all jumped on the wagon so time will tell! Good thing we have archives lol

Exactly...

… what I thought as well. But I guess we’re all now well aware how little these guys actually know, other than what other reporters tell them.

If anything has stuck me about the round of reporters now eating crow about their erroneous Bronco record predictions, it’s the sheer number of them who said, “… and everyone else thought the same thing!” I wish I could use that excuse in MY job.

Agreed, Bear

Even the best (of the worst) of the MSM don’t know a darn thing about the depth of personnel of this team. Guess we sneaked up on them! LOL

LOL
All the guy has done is win football games, and, if I recall correctly, that’s pretty much what this whole thing is about.

Isn’t it incredible how many “sports reporters” seem to forget that simple truth? The stats don’t lie, as The Dude likes to say, but ultimately the W is the only one that matters. Ws have turned our coach (in the minds of the punditry) from a leper to an imminent champion in 6 weeks. What a load of horsepucky!

Nice find, thanks Bear!

Conversation nonstarters: hoping McDaniels fails, comparing Bears to Broncos, Cutler to Orton, apples to oranges, and casual drinkers to Raiders fans.

I came across this article earlier.

It was good for a chuckle. At least he got the stats right—and even posted them!

As if that were not enough...

he seems to believe that we have the pick Seattle has instead of the Bears.

Bears pick will not be too high

They have a winning record and I don’t see them going worse then 8-8. But it sure looks like or own pick (shipped to Seattle) will be later in the draft.

Hey, SI, I think they will range from 6-10 to 9-7..

Here are the rest of their games:

@ Cin
Cle
Arz
@SF
Phi
@ Min
Stl
GB
@Bal
Min
@Det

Currently 3-2. And let’s say you just go ahead and give them Saint Louis, Cleveland, and Detroit (not that we should, but for arguments sake). That is 6 wins. Every other team on their schedule is going to play them very tough, including Arizona. Who else do you see them beating or losing too?

I think it’s entirely possible it’s going to be 7-9. This would likely put that pick somewhere between 8-14, depending on if you consider this high or not.

Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.

I'll give this a shot

@ Cin = tossup but I’ll say loss
Cle = win
Arz = tossup but I’ll say win due to Arz poor road record and it’s outdoors in the cold
@SF = win
Phi = loss
@ Min = loss
Stl = Win
GB = loss
@Bal = loss
Min = loss
@Det = win

8-8 I suppose which keeps them in that 8-15 range…even if they go 9-7 we’ll get a top 20 pick. Imagine what we could do with an 8-15 pick?

When does the word of the msm count for squat?

Suddenly they grasping ahold of the bandwagon by their slimy finger tip pleading to get on board. Shall we be naive to let them slink up on? The scoundrels will beat us like step children if we were to lose the remaining games. McDaniels/Xanders and Mr Bowlen know whats best for the team not the msm and their opinion.

where is the original source for this?

I looked on NFL Blogs and couldn’t find it. Is it something he said on TV?

The Orton Trap

Although Orton is doing well under McDaniels which even many in the MSM expected at the start of the season, his success has been taken as a license to exaggerate his performance by the MSM due to a perfect win/loss record through 6 games and a number of balls dropped by opposing defenders that should have been picked. Let’s not set ourselves up to be disappointed when the stats “normalize” as they almost always do over a full season. There are lots of ways to beat Orton which I won’t go into here because I don’t want to give any tips on this, and without our defense under the leadership of Nolan, Dawkins, DJ, Andra, Champ, and perhaps a couple of others, this team would sit at 2-4 or 3-3 at the bye. Orton is doing great, I’m happy we got him, am thrilled to read all the positive things his teammates (especially his receivers) are saying about him, but I won’t be deceived that this is a QB comparable to Joe Montana (Bill Williamson) just as I didn’t think Orton would play like Rex Grossman’s backup.

As for the quote, where this NFL Network person states:
“and the Broncos might not be poised to pick too high for at least this year, anyway”, presumably he is talking about the Chicago Bears’ prospects, or else later round picks because the Seahawks have our 2010 first rounder.

I’d like to see us draft a Rey Malauga-type LB, someone to fill in for Hamilton and/or Wiegmann in a year or two, and continue to follow the “best player available” strategy with the other picks. Happy with our 09 picks. Bruton makes a lot of special teams tackles, Smith is the real deal at CB and Ayers is getting there. When Larsen is back, our special teams defending will take another step forward- i still remember that hit he layed out last year- wow.
