Is this the season?
What we all want is reachable, but will it? We won Super Bowl titles with Elway, can we with Orton? Our defense is as strong as ever, will it continue? I want to know what other Broncos fans really think of our team's season... I have to deal with such a divided household on favorite teams, Chargers, Cowboys, Raiders, Colts, and Patriots, not a single person in my family likes the same team... Incredibly hard to not get a bias thought on our team...

I have some concerns
most of which will be answered in the next five weeks. ;-)
I think we are a playoff team, but so much of our talent is young….we’ll only get better!

I have some concerns....
How in the hell do you let your family be a fan of those other teams? Friends don’t let friends root for raiders…. I’m sorry. It’s time for an intervention.

We are going far, no doubts here buddy! We have one of the best (yes I said it already) and freshest minds in all of professional football running our team. McD knows what he wants out of these players and how to get it. Do we still have some challenging teams on the schedule, absolutely. But what has this team not proved thus far? The only thing I can think of is 3rd and 4th and short situations, which are a bit mystifying…

My opinion...
I think we have a good chance of going all the way. Barring key injuries. We have a good talent level, we have OUTSTANDING coaching, great team chemistry and, most importantly IMO, a team that is focused and brings their best game no matter who they are playing.
On a side note you say your household has 6 different favorite teams which leads me to the obvious conclusion that you have 5 wives and so I am wondering, how did you convince the first wife to go for that? In fact, can you email me the basic speech you gave her? I mean, if it’s a winning speech, no use reinventing the wheel and all……. THANKS!

One thing...
I don’t want to go “all the way” unless we win all the way. No more Super Bowl losses please.

Too early to talk about all the way
I want to see how we address our short-yardage stuff and special teams. If we can improve in those areas and keep productive on defense and offense otherwise, we are going to be serious playoff threats.

I like Orton
but a part of me still worries about whether he can stretch the field and, thus, provide more offensive options against the stout defenses in the league. As someone said above, we’ll find out who we are in the coming weeks. But I still worry that as the season progresses teams will figure us out, and at that point our limitations begin to get exposed, which is what we saw with the fading teams of recent years.

Stretching the field
The long vertical game is not the only way to stretch the field. Orton and the offense have been great at stretching in side line to side line putting every inch in play. The Break away threats of Royal, Marshal, Buck and Moreno mean you must respect the territory behind the line and 50 yards ahead of it. A safety that cheats, even a little bit, gets burned.
McD has commented very highly on Ortons intelligence. I think is greatest attribute so far has been his ability to diagnose a defense and figure out what it is giving him – which accounts for the slower starts we are seeing. As Kyle gains more experiance and a greater understanding – via outstanding Coach McD – he will only become more deadly (a la P. Manning). Oh, and he can throw the ball 50 yards downfield, but why go for the low percentage shot when you can hit Royal, Marshal, Sheffler or any of our guys for a high percent 20 yards and have a great chance of them tacking on the extra 30+?
I don’t see a late season fade coming our direction. We do not have a single scheme that others can diagnose. McD and Nolan develope distinct game plans for each opponent. Our players and physical enough to win the individual battles in the threnches, and more than smart enough to quickly adapt to changing game situations. With heady leaders like Dawkins, Bailey and Orton (list kept short – too many to list) on field reactions can be taken almost immediately. We cannot be ‘figured out’, opposing teams will have to line up against us, out play us physically, and make adjustments faster than our players and coaches. Many will try, only a few will succeed.

You're right!
I guess I am still a bit reserved and cautious. Sure things have changed, but this isn’t the only fast start we’ve experienced recently.

One game at a time. That's all I ask from this team.
I won’t speculate next Monday because we haven’t fought Sunday yet. All I want from this team is to play hard on every down, win lose or draw.

agree with bfree2bronc
I whole heartedly agree. One game at a time. Too many times in the past have the walls come crashing down. I love the broncos, have always loved the broncos, but as was often quoted during the 70’s, “With the Broncos, the highs are very high and the lows are very low.”
