Intersting notes- Orton vs. our other "game manager"
So I was wondering earlier today on twitter (Follow me @JTollerud) how Kyle Orton and Jake Plummer compare. Jake Plummer wasnt a superstar bu the guy won games for us.
I took Jake's first 38 games and compared them to Kyle's 36 (yeah shocked me when I realized he has only played 36 games). Interesting comparisons
via a.espncdn.com
Jake Plummer QB Arizona-
Comp- 682 Att- 1197 57.0% 41TD 59INT

Kyle Orton QB Chicago/Denver
Comp- 554 Att- 1001 55.3% 33TD 27INT
Very interesting breakdown statistically. I am not a stats guy so i take these with a grain of salt but it is interesting to note how they compare similarly in poor systems. Now Statistics will say that Jake's career QB rating was 75, his TD to INT ration was 1:1 (161:161) but when he came to Denver all we did was win, playoff appearances, AFC Champ game, he won games for us, there was a stretch where he went 7 or 8 games without an INT even. It took him a while to mature but Plummer became a game manager you could rely on. I think Orton is in the same mold, and given the chance will bring similar if not more success for us.
I only own a handful of jerseys, Elway Davis Sharpe McCaffrey Smith Plummer and now Dawkins and Royal. Never bought any others dont want em!
I say give Orton a chance to show you what kind of QB he can be!

Nice article, Jon.
I always liked Jake and I thought that he got a bum rap from Shanahan.
Orton just seems like such a cool guy, and I love that he’s a leader and has the respect of guys like Dawkins, Bailey, Stokely, etc. I have always felt that one of life’s greatest rewards is to achieve the respect of people you respect in kind.

Good post Jon,
but trying to compare Orton and Plummer during their first +30 games is difficult. Orton has a 24-12 record, while Plummer went 15-21. Orton played for a decent team in the Bears, while Plummer player for the struggling Cardinals. I liked Jake Plummer during his years with the Broncos. From my residence in Chicago, it was very difficult to understand what the heck the Broncos were thinking when they drafted Jay Cutler in the first round following a 13-3 season with Plummer taking snaps. To me, a Bears fan and KO fan, there is much bigger similarity between the two quartebacks. Both of their teams(management) quit on them. Plummer just said the hell with it and retired at a young age in today’s game, while Orton hasn’t come close to reaching his potential at the ripe age of 27. Give Orton a chance? I say go buy one of his jerseys. He might be in Denver longer than anyone thinks.

Great thoughts rocko
Shanahan lost a lot of respect from me when he quit on Plummer like that. The dude loved Denver and the fans here and Shanahan put him in the back seat for a fancy new toy. There’s been a lot of suspect things done in recent years with Shanny, but that move really put me against him.
TAKE IT!!!

He loved the fans?
Maybe with the exception of some loudmouth with season tickets near the Denver bench.
