What an amazing game!

KB....I agree....

O Line was bad first half, they had wretched luck, could not buy a 1st down and still found a way to win…..this is how a TEAM gets it done…remarkable win while not playing great on O…great job!

Good question

Garrett needs to probably start treating orton like romo and not expect him to be a QB that can make real throws down field.

by DallascowboysTO on Oct 4, 2009 5:48 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm a Romo fan myself

and I agree sometimes the playcalling leaves something to be desired. The second half told the story about coaching. Adjustments were made by the Broncos and the Cowboys were less effective. You lost in the coaching department tonight

by T.Dot_Bronco on Oct 4, 2009 5:50 PM MDT up reply actions

The long ball is slightly overrated in today’s NFL. Besides Orton overthrew receivers several times on post routes.

0 INT’s however is severely underrated.

Unless you count the dropped pics in the first half. The one that went through spencers hands and allowed the touchdown was a game breaker.

For what its worth, I do think Romo is a good quarterback. He just seems to have a problem making the jump to great quarterback.

by DallascowboysTO on Oct 4, 2009 5:59 PM MDT up reply actions

I hear ya.

A lot of us Bronco fans hear the mainstream media and others talk about how the Broncos will be awful just because we lost Cutler. One player. Granted it was the quarterback but still just one player. So thats why it may seem to others teams fans that we have a chip on our shoulder about Orton.

Joe Sakic. Captain forever.

by InYoFace on Oct 4, 2009 6:04 PM MDT up reply actions

that and the fact that everyone sees the trade as an Orten for Cutler thing

when that is far from it, we got 2 first’s and a third plus Orten for Jay and a 5th

That too.

Fair enough,

if your quarterback played more like our ‘below average QB,’ he’d be better.

yeah,

not the gloating type, but here's my prediction on this game set August 26:
Week 4 vs Dallas: Dallas is coming into the season with high expectations internally, and Denver’s got the world to prove. Expect this to be a tight game. Denver has a hard time establishing the run, making the play action virtually useless. Demarcus Ware has himself a good game, but ultimately gets squashed by Iron Clady’s hammerfists. Orton saves the day on a 65 yard (25 through the air) pass to Stokley. Denver fans have full faith in this team, and our secondary picks on Tony Romo three times. Win 14-10.

TAKE IT!!!

not too accurate.

denver didn’t have a hard time establishing the run. Ware didn’t do anything. Homo wasn’t picked off 3 times. but overall, BRONCOS WIN! Good job

My prediction on september 21:
Week 4: Dallas Cowboys- I think with the Cowboys coming to town, the Broncos will prove that they’re for real. We will run all over them and Marshall will make some big plays. Royal will also emerge. The Cowboys look to once again be among the NFL’s elite; however, if Romo’s ankle doesn’t heal by then I believe that the Broncos can keep the game close by clogging the run and getting to a pretty immobile Tony Romo. My prediction: BRONCOS WIN

rec'd this

I wasn’t impressed with Orton, especially in the first half. But as long as he’s contributing to a win and not holding the team back I’m happy to support him.

And although our defense is awesome, I think we should also recognize that they were helped by Romo’s inaccuracy.

To take a page from McD, I’m thrilled with the win, but there is still a lot to work on.

What were you not impressed with? That he gave up NO fumbles, no Interceptions ot the fact he did not throw into double or triple coverage.

Hillis

Does anyone have insight as to why it appears Hillis will not be allowed to touch the ball? I know he had the fumble, but I’m a little disappointed at his disappearance, and I was wondering if he really is in the doghouse, or if it was just a scheme thing this week.

In my opinion

I think the fumble had a lot to do with it and to make matters worse today he got a penalty called on him in I think his only appearance that I saw in the game. So I think that has a lot to do with things but also, now that we have 2 real solid RBs we don’t need him to run that much. So I see it like, what do we need him for now?

postulating a theory sure to be heatedly argued but here goes

Did Jay Cutler make Peyton Hillis?

IOW, were the spectacular plays we saw last year at all influenced by Cutler’s prediliction for improvisation?

Just a thought that occurred to me today. Haven’t gone very deep into it, mind you, or looked at his biggest plays. I just recall that many of those plays were as astonishing for their unlikeliness as they were for his raw power and durability.

This is the the single best response to this type of question I’ve ever heard out of a MSM analyst.

“Bucky, I remember in one of your articles you said that the colts will finish last in their division and the titans would win it right now it looks vice versa, any new perdictions for the colts on winning the division?”

“Bucky Brooks, NFL.com
Peete, I admit that I was wrong about the Colts this year. They have not experienced the bumps that normally accompany a coaching transition, and they are playing great on defense. In addition, Peyton Manning is in a great rhythm and he is torching opponents with his precision passing. Right now, it looks like they will reclaim their spot at the top of the AFC South and it looks like it will be rather easy for them to accomplish it.”

Cowboys Fan here - Good Game

Tough loss. Really felt we had the game after the first half.

The game could have gone either way. I’m happy to finally see the Dallas D show up. Just disappointed that Romo didn’t show up. He really fucked the team on his drive where he missed his receivers three times in a row. You guys know the drive I am talking about.

But Denver’s D made the adjustments in the second half and really stepped up to play. I will definitely be watching you guys this season to see how you guys fare the rest of the season.

The only thing I gotta ask though, guys. And I don’t mean to sound bitter… but..
.

Marshall’s escapades this offseason were quite possibly the saddest thing I have ever seen out of a professional athlete when it comes to professionalism. He is honestly my most hated player right now. Even more then T.O.

Does winning cure all? Even after the shit he pulled on you guys this offseason? I mean, if any other receiver on that team caught a TD to win for you guys I would chalk it up to just getting beat. But him catching that makes me want to puke.

Like to repeat, good game. I’m not going to lie, going into the game I felt you guys were pretenders. I did tell people that both teams were untested to an extent, and that we would find out who is real today. I still don’t have faith in Orton as a QB, but I think everything around Orton makes up for that. But then again, maybe everything around him makes up for his lack of playmaking.

Good luck guys. I’m sorry though, I almost hope you guys dont do shit until BM is gone from the Broncos.

Would like to add, and I meant to post but the beers are clouding my brain. I came across as bitter because I did was harp on Orton.

But the D is solid. The running game is solid. You guys could make some serious noise come playoff time. Good luck guys.

thanks for your great comments blark

Certainly understand your frustration. We’ve been in similar places over the past few years, and it just kills ya. But the season is far from over. You guys are a great team. And Cowboy fans are class fans and who knows? Maybe Shanny will move his mansion to Dallas-FW next year?

I actually made the comment to a buddy of mine at the bar tonight. I would like to have him in Dallas next year but it won’t happen, unless something significant happens like a collapse god forbid.

Jerry had some serious faith in Wade and Garrett. Something I don’t have the faith in.

Right now I’m not sure what it takes.

by blark0202 on Oct 4, 2009 7:18 PM MDT up reply actions

an outsiders perspective but

my sense is that if Wade doesn’t take them deep in the playoffs, Jerry would TOTALLY pull the trigger on Shanny. They know and respect each other deeply.

Sadly, though, there is likely to be a bidding war with the Redskins…

A bidding war isn’t a problem, imo.

If Jones wants him, he’ll get him. Jason Garrett is making close to 3 mil as an assistant for christs sake. All because Jerry Jones wanted to keep him around.

by blark0202 on Oct 4, 2009 7:24 PM MDT up reply actions

lol true but

you’d be bidding against the man who gave his NT $100m. Could be interesting. My gut though is that Shanny would take the Dallas job first (after coyly using Wash for leverage).

frankly blark

Speaking for myself, what he did on the field was let his play speak for itself, which is the only thing that will vindicate him. Shannon Sharpe and Rod Smith have been all over him since the practice problem, and if anyone can help him turn his life around, they can. In fact, the entire Broncos organization deserves GREAT credit for how they have handled him since day 1. I really feel it would be a real shame if he didn’t make good on their trust, as he appears to be doing now. Did you see him hug McDaniels on the sideline after the catch? That’s who he is at heart. We all know it. And if he can come back and be the man we have always wanted to be, he will be in a lot of Bronco hearts for a long long time. Many have given up on him, understandably so, but know this — Brandon has potential not just as a player but as a man. Our fans know that. We’ve been patient. And now it honestly seems as though he is honoring that trust.

GREAT JOB TODAY 15!!!!

Understandable. From an outsider looking in it’s obviously hard to see that. All I see is a quitter. But obviously I haven’t followed him day in and day out.

We put so much pressure on these kids

We the fans, the coaches, the owners, the media, and the agents. I’m so gratified that the NFL has as many individuals of tremendous class as it does. Rod and Shannon are two of those guys. If they don’t give up on him, I sure won’t. He’s a good guy, really. Just had a very bad day and made some dumb decisions. I think we as fans and the organizations we support owe it to the players to guide them, help them succeed in life beyond football, and honor their contributions accordingly. Brandon certainly has that from the Broncos.

Troy Aikman's comment

Did anyone else hear Troy’s comment during the game about what he saw at the broncos practice on friday? Something to the effect of: other than Michael Irvin, he’s never seen a receiver work so hard in practice as he did Marshall on friday.

So far it’s looking like BMarsh has taken the advice to heart, and made a real effort to change. If he keeps it up, pay the man!

by sleepydog on Oct 4, 2009 7:50 PM MDT up reply actions

was just going to say the same thing.

Rec’d. I am impressed with the way he’s handled himself the past few weeks.

by SkinnyPB on Oct 4, 2009 8:04 PM MDT up reply actions

Aikman surprised me a little today. He actually came across (IMO, anyway) as quite positve about our Broncos.

I don’t know if it was conscious effort to not blatantly pull for his old team, but he was quite generous with the praise for the Broncos, especially Orton and Marshall

Thanks for stopping by

Personally, the reason I feel so good about this win is because it was against a formidable Dallas team. You’re right, this game could have gone either way but it really came down to the second half changes.

Regarding Marshall, he’s a lot like an incredibly talented toddler. He has tantrums but McDaniels took a perfect Dr. Spock approach and let Marshall have his moment in training camp without punishing him too severely. Marshall has come around and I think really appreciates McDaniels for sticking with him and not being too vindictive for the way he behaved. Marshall is going to get a payday, and it just might be with the Broncos.

by NYCBronx on Oct 4, 2009 7:17 PM MDT up reply actions

As is obvious from my limited knowledge on BM’s character, what was the general view on McDaniel’s before the season started?

Before the season started I was actually on Cutler’s side. I was on the side that said Cutler was being treated like shit by some young guy(McD) who had yet to prove himself, which I thought was horseshit.

Was that just ESPN talking through me, or did I have something valid?

by blark0202 on Oct 4, 2009 7:20 PM MDT up reply actions

you have no idea how loaded that question is ... lol

That issue split the fan base and we’re loath to talk much about it now. Sufficeth to say, both sides were well represented and VERY passionate. I will say though that a great number of fans (maybe not a majority, but definitely most at MHR) felt McDaniels’ choices after Cutler were so solid that there may have been some reason none of us were privy to that would explain why he didn’t bow to Cutler and try harder to keep him here. For example, he was building a team where everyone competes for their job, nothing is handed to anyone, where guys have to be mentally and physically tough, and play within the system not inside it — in other words, it’s just not a gunslinger’s system.

It’s okay — Jay’s happy now, and you better believe that most of us are as well. ^^

Thanks for the great game today. I put the odds at 50-50 before the game, and I’d give the same odds tomorrow.

I understand what your saying about Marshall

All the crap he pulled this off season was inexcusable. After the practice debacle, I was ready for him to go, no matter what we got in return. Even the first 4 weeks I had trouble getting excited watching him make plays. After his touchdown today, I was happy the Broncos were winning, but wasn’t necessarily happy he was the one that scored. I got much closer to forgiving him when he and McDaniels hugged and he was embraced by his teammates. They were able to put this off season behind them, so maybe I should too.

by kiraly41 on Oct 4, 2009 7:19 PM MDT up reply actions

Good point.

If his teammates have reached the point of forgiveness then obviously he is not who I think he is.

Thanks blark0202

But Denver’s D made the adjustments in the second half and really stepped up to play.

This is something I am so happy to see and McD and the coaching staff do it well.

LOVED "THE HUG"

I mean the one on the sidelines — didn’t see the presser after the show, but I bet I’ll like that one, too.

Brandon is lucky to have the Broncos, and the Broncos are lucky to have Brandon. Let’s hope they both realize it next offseason and reach some amicable arrangement to keep B Marsh wearing orange and blue!

The rest of the schedule

After this awesome game and looking at the rest of the schedule – the teams that are suppose to be our roadblock or “test” doesn’t really scare me so much anymore. Studying those teams and with our dominating “D” I don’t see why we can’t run the table! It’ll be a challenge, but I think we stand to prove a lot of the doubters wrong. What do you think, Mr Clayton?
