2 Quick Thoughts
It's been mentioned before, but as the Broncos are 4-0 against other teams, McDaniels is 4-0 against veteran coaches.
2nd thought. I'll be the first to admit. I'm a young guy, only in my early 20's. I haven't suffered like a lot of you guys. I either wasn't around for most of Denver's playoff gaffs or am too young to remember. Most of my memories are current. Elway bombing it to Rod Smith to open the second half against Atlanta, Champ's pick six against the Pats. Kyle Orton has given me a memory to go along with them, and I'm surprised nobody (at least as far as I've read) has pointed it out. On Denver's FG drive midway through the 4th, Orton scrambled from pressure, rolled out, and uncorked a seed to Royal for a first down while his feet were barely in the ground and he was taking a vicious helmet to helmet hit (that resulted in a personal foul). He was obviously shaken up after the play, but hung in to get us into scoring position. That's a play a lot of QB's don't make, especially in the NFL where a lot of qb's - in a word -are shell shocked. I'm a believer. I've always liked Orton, even when he was in Chicago - but for the most part saw him as a year or two fill-in until we could develop Brandster or another young QB. Plays like this make me wonder if Orton is the future - he's certainly making himself more than worthy of an extension. All the questions about arm strength seem to be about the deep ball - which are fair. He missed Gaffney in the endzone early in the and even the TD to Marshall was a little underthrown, but in this offense from 20 yards and in - he's unthrowing with inhuman velocity - even with the glove on. Maybe all the talk about mechanics from McDaniels in the offseason is paying off.

We haven't seen anything yet.
It will take a few weeks as I suspected it would to get the glove off. The wound is healing and still sensitive and he admited last week that on some of his throws the accuracy wasn’t there. The glove has clearly affected some of his passes. The short passes seem to have plenty of zip on them. I was thinking this morning about the Bears situation and cutler. When the weather becomes a factor in Soldier Field and the ball becomes harder than a rock, it will be interesting to watch his receivers try to catch those high velosity passes. If he tries to adjust his velosity it might affect his accuracy as well. The season is going to get better and better as the weather gets colder.
The Future
I’m with you Vortex. I feel it way too early to start clamoring for a replacement to Orton. I also think it is too early to start wanting to sign him to a long-term contract. It’s just too early in the season. Orton may be the future. He may not be. Let’s revisit this later in the season. For now I am more than happy and not yet competely content with his play. Happy because we are winning and not yet content because he, and the rest of the offense, have the talent to play even better.
Agreed - it's still early
How long did it take McDaniels to get his QB last year comfortable and in a groove? He’s obviously still geting comfortable with the system and I have no idea how much the finger/glove is affecting him. Still, if he takes many more hits like that one, we’ll be wondering how long it takes Simms to get comfortable with the system.
Go Broncs!
It's "just" football
Thanks for the reminder of that third down play.
I just commented on another post, saying how I thought he looked really mediocre, yesterday. The play you describe showed some real onions. I needed that reminder. The guy is a real fighter, but the jury is still out. I’m content to wait and see how things play out over the season.
It has been my opinion that if the team looks like a contender, Orton shows us what he’s got and hangs around awhile. On the other hand, if the season goes to hell in a handbasket early, then let the rookie get some big league reps.
Looks like the Ortmeister stays a bit, so far.
Actually
the Cowboys should have beaten us Dollar-wise. Lol
