Morning UB3
Thanks Nyc.
In Mike Lombardi’s Diner morning news, there is a nice comment by Mr.Murder:
The Cowboys should have tried to get Brandon Marshall when the Broncos rumoredly flirted with trading him. That amazing TD catch was TO-like, maybe if Owens continues to hustle at it he’ll be lucky enough to be compared with Brandon Marshall at year’s end….
In another link from that post
The Cowboys could be without wide receiver Roy Williams at Kansas City. It was revealed that Williams has three damaged but not broken ribs and he"cracked a cartilage" when he was walloped by Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams as he extended to make a catch. After the game, Williams called it the hardest hit he’s ever taken.

Casserly's
…assessment this pre-season was that the Broncos secondary would help to sure up a weak defense against the run. He said the Broncos would play a bend-not-break style — avoiding the big play — in order to give the offense a chance.
He had the right idea, but he completely underestimated the front 7’s ability to make stops.

Thank you NYC
I’ll have to check back later to finish the article.
Thank you for your time and effort. I don’t think many of us fully realize just how much time goes into compiling this type of post. so once again thank you very much.
btw I voted 10-11. I’m going against what I thought earlier in the year which was a 9-7 record as division winners and wining one playoff game.
The schedule doesn’t seem to be as hard as it first appeared based on the performance of some of the other teams. JMO

Today's 1510 am Mile High Sports radio highlight
Les Shapiro and Mile High Sports founder James Merilatt spent the morning arguing that Kyle Orton was horrific — and that the Broncos can never win with a QB like Orton, who the two noted “can’t make plays.”
Merilatt, who is the founder of Mile High Sports, goes from show to show filling in for absent co-hosts, spewing his hate for Orton, McDaniels, et al — and has been doing so for months now.
Of course, when the station had an opportunity to interview Orton last week, Merilatt essentially kissed Orton’s ass; why, I wondered, wouldn’t he ask Orton himself why the QB is so “awful,” or why Orton thought he could win games when he’s nothing more than a joke?
What’s so discouraging is that 1510 am is dedicated to Denver sports. And yet if you are a Denver sports fan, listening to it is absolutely painful — unless, of course, you are the kind of Denver sports “fan” who goes to games and participates in anti-Kyle Orton chants, and who still sleeps in his Cutler footie pajamas.

More AM radio garbage
I’m glad I don’t listen to stuff like that. It’s too bad. Hopefully some people defended Orton to those yahoos when calling in, but more importantly those of us here shouldn’t care. Orton’s a winner. AM radio guys are whiners.

Is an absolute embarassment. Seriously, that guy makes Woody Paige look informed and reasonable.

My thoughts on projecting our record.
I’ve thought we would be a much improved team, even if our record didn’t look great this year. My biggest concerns for this year were the schedule, and the adjustment of so many new players, coordinators, a new HC and QB, and new systems on both sides of the ball. I figured we had a pretty good chance of starting 4-4, and we have. I also wrote that I expected our team to be around 8-8 at the end of the season.
A few factors have changed. Most importantly, the team is already clicking. While we have a long ways to go (most notably on offense), two factors help us. One, Orton’s glove will come off soon. Second, Orton can only get better (and he already has no INTs and at least one TD per game).
Also important is that the defense is not only improved, but “already there”. The defense is excellent, and frankly, as good as it can get. Teams are only averaging 6 points against us per game. We shut down the Palmer Cincy attack, and we shut down the Barber / Choice attack on the ground against DAL.
Also important is that some of the teams on our schedule are having some issues. The Pats are still elite, but not as invincible as they have been. The Redskins are in serious trouble. The cracks we’ve seen in the Chargers are bigger. KC didn’t improve as I thought they would. We still face trouble from NE, Philly, BAL, and the NYGs.
In my opinion, Denver has beaten two bad teams, a team that is suprisingly better than some thought (Cincy), and a good team (Dal). In my opinion, Denver has proved that they are a good team. Beating Cincy and Dal show that we are better than average, and can beat good teams. That makes us much, much better than years past. Now, can we beat playoff quality teams?
The game against NE could go either way. I lean a little towards NE, but the fact that I have to “lean towards NE” means that Denver is a LOT better than some might have thought. I’m not on the 13-3 bandwagon, but I was never near the “McDaniels and Orton haters” that thought the Broncos weren’t worth supporting anymore. (That last group has been strangely silent at MHR lately).
I think that if we keep the score close, win or lose, that we are closer to 9 or 10 wins this season. If we win big, 10 to 12 possible. If we lose big, our record should be no worse than 8-8.

OOPS!
I meant, “I figured we had a pretty good chance of starting 4-0, and we have.” I didn’t mean 4-4.

I agree HT
The Points Per Game for our opponents after 4 weeks
Def= Points allowed
Off= Points made
Chiefs—Def 28 -Off 16-Def 25.5
Chargers-Off 25.2-Def 24
Eagles-Off 31.3-Def 21.5
raiders-Off 10.5-Def 20
Ravens-Off 31-Def 19.5
Steelers-Off 21.2-Def 17.8
Pats-Off 21.8-Def 16
Giants-Off 26.8-Def 15.5
Colts-Off 26.5-Def 15.5 —Off 14
Redskins
And accordingly:
Broncos—Def 6.5 —Off 19.8
All this stat shows, is that if all these teams are consistent (and not factoring injuries), the Broncos could feasibly win 10 games this season.

Poor Rodgers
Man I feel for the guy. He’s really a talent, but how long can he keep going with that O-line proclaiming open house every game?

I’m still sticking with my April prediction of 10-6….I will have to raise that upward when we win this week. :)

The Packers
need some help on OL and they need it NOW. Eight sacks in one game is just mind boggling. While Favre had time to do his taxes back there, Rodgers was running for his life all night. That poor kid isn’t going to make it through the season at this rate.

What is Denver's RB depth chart next Sunday with Buck out?
Knowshon 1st. Then Lamont. But then what? I assume Hillis. Will they bring up Walker? Or sign someone else? 3 RBs for a game doesn’t seem like enough in this day and age.

I don't think it will get that far
But Darius Walker is on the Practice Squad, in case of emergency. Just sayin.

10-12 wins
As it stands now, 11-5 should be the goal. Picking off Indy or Philly (emotional burst from Dawk?) could put us at 12. Though my 11 figure is conceding a loss at San Diego, and they’re defense is awful.. soo.. 13-3? lol.
Losses:
@ San Diego (as I said, no sure thing, especially with momentum after beating NE)
@ Baltimore (should be a house of horrors for a game-managing offense)
vs NYG (I hate to call any home game a guaranteed loss. They’re defense is banged up, but Eli’s foot should be fine for this one. It’d be sweet to win against a Super Bowl favorite on Thanksgiving, though.)
@ Indy
@ Philly

I'm also feeling 11
And my sentiments are mostly the same for the schedule, although I think it’s important to consider that Baltimore’s defense isn’t quite what they used to be. They still have some great players, but they’re giving up yards and points…
by Douglas A. Lee on Oct 6, 2009 11:16 AM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think part of that
can be accredited to a much more potent offense than Baltimore has seen since the team moved there. They’re letting Flacco air it out and they pick up big chunks of yardage on every play, so the defense is on the field more than it used to be. Lewis is another year older and Ed Reed is battling concussions, so they’re definitely not elite anymore. But still formidable.
