NFL Power Rankings Week 5
Holy smokes! Look at these numbers:
associatedcontent - #4
Bleacherreport - #5
theonlinewire - #9
Foxsports - #17
I had to do a double-take when I looked at the foxsports ranking. Yes, it did include the win against the Cowgirls and the Vikings win over the Packers. Obviously rankings like these are among the more stupid stats I follow. I am perfectly content to have the Broncos ranked anywhere in the top ten, but 17? Get a grip on reality dude!

The Foxsports guy talks about Denver’s 3 wins and has no mention of the Cowboy game. I don’t think our latest win was included in his analysis.
Love the Broncos. Mike Nolan is a genius.
Don't freak
If you look at the top, under the title, it says “last updated Sept. 29” so it isn’t the most recent ranking. Records may have auto updated(?) but I can tell it isn’t the most recent addition.

I hope they keep the Broncos at 17....
Let them go under the radar for as long as possible.

Florio has Cincinnati and San Diego ahead of us!
Keep the disrespect coming!
#8 in ESPN rankings
3 one loss teams ahead of the Broncos.
So much for you-are-what-your-record-says-you-are.
yes
but those 1 loss teams all lost to teams with higher ranks.
Saints ahead of Jets, ahead of pats, ahead of ravens…. then us.
I’m ok with it. We just do what we can. Play the schedule we’re dealt. The next 4 games are huge. I can say with 100% confidence that things will sort themselves out in the next 12 games or so.
It should also be noted that Clayton voted the broncos at #5.
I guess that’s how you man up, and admit you were wrong in his world.
+1
Good on him…..may he die of siphalice……siffalice? syphalice? I can’t spell….whatever.

Any link for that one, Skinny?
"3rd and 6, Elway shotgun... Elway, scrambling, looking, running-- DIVING!!!-- inside the 5 yard line for a first down! Is he only 37?! How important is this football game? How bad does John Elway want to win this football game? Where you see the quarterbacks go down: Not Elway!"

Elmer???
The Fox comments are under the title of “What is surprising.” One of the Denver comments is the the defense is “lead by a guy named Elmer.”
Well, yes, I think we all find it surprising. Especially ELVIS.
Even more surprising is that someone as stupid as the comment writer is making a living as a writer.

Sagarin has us at #3
"Surprised to see you, Captain, though pleased." — from Star Trek episode Space Seed.
they haven't updated yet
but Cold Hard Football Facts had Denver at #5 last week with this write up:
DENVER (3-0). Last week: 23-3 win at Oakland. Folks, could we please recognize defense? The Broncos have allowed 5.3 points per game, 3.9 yards per play and have forced eight turnovers. More importantly, when looking at the Broncos through our Quality Stats, they are No. 1 in Bendability, No. 2 in the critical Defensive Hog Index and No. 3 in Defensive Passer Rating. But national "pundits" like Peter King had them 11th in his Monday Morning power rankings. Eleventh!! ESPN.com? Even worse – 13th!! If the Broncos were doing on offense what they’re doing on defense, they’d be the toast of the NFL.
updated rankings have Denver at #4
4. DENVER (4-0). Last week: 17-10 win vs. Dallas. Denver’s pass defense has been excellent (56.0 defensive passer rating), but they’ve also played bad pass offenses (a collective 64.7 rating when the Denver games are removed). But the run defense is exceptionally good — their four opponents have averaged 3.2 YPA against Denver, 4.8 YPA against everyone else.
"The Broncos have allowed 5.3 points per game, "
Alas, the Broncos blew that stat with the Dallas game. They now have a dismal average of 6.5 points given up per game.
