What to do with Ayers and Moss?
I brought this up last night on MHR Radio, but it is an interesting point. Will Robert Ayers start this year?
Do you sit Haggen a team captain to start Ayers, do you sit Doom, do you sit DJ or Andre Davis? Yet, if Ayers starts to progress more, you obviously are going to want to get him some more game time. I would guess that Andre Davis sits some and Haggen moves into the middle. Granted it is great to have some quality depth and I am sure there will be a fair amount of rotation, but eventually I have to believe Ayers will have to be a starting OLB. I really don't see him as a full time 3-4 end since he is somewhat undersized in that role to take on double teams. The next question is what happens to Jarvis Moss. I have a hard time thinking he will be on this team after this year at his current pay rate if he isn't seeing much of the field. So what is the MHR thoughts, I really have no good answers but I am interested in hearing the thoughts.

Does who is starting even a concept recognized in the McD system?
If situational football calls for rotational skill sets, will Ayers be featured against teams that his skill set is most approriate for regardless of if he is designated a starter or not? What does starting get a player other than their name and face on the pre-game show?

I guess it is more of a question of who gets more plays
I guess my point was that the starting four have been playing very well, and it seems like you would want to keep them on the field as much as possible. The only one that really gets pulled off is Davis for obvious passing or dime coverage where woodyard seems to be getting a lot of play.

couldn't vote
The reason he would start on a McD team is that he beat someone out NOT that he makes too much money. Look at Moss. He makes money and doesn’t even dress. If you could remove the sarcasm from choice one and word it like the other choices it would be a fair poll

Not sure if you can really factor the money completely out of the equation
While I don’t think that hewould start because he makes more money, I would say that if you have two guys playing at about the same level, one is a 1st round rookie with upside versus say a vet who may not have as much upside, then you would have to look at the financial implications, the owner is paying a guy a ton of money, he wants results. I think Moss is only on this team becase the Broncos would of eaten a bigger cap hit if he had been cut, reports from everyone that watched camp said that Moss was far behind Tim Crowder, but Crowder getting cut didn’t have nearly the cost impact.

Moss
I think he’s on the team because of potential. This is only his 3rd year, and he’s been hampered by injury and position change. I saw him make some very athletic plays in the pre-season. That said, I think he’s number 53 on the 53 player roster.

Mauibroncofan has a point
No experienced poll-taker would ever word a question that way. If it had just said, Yes, he will start before the end of the year, the respondent could have made the choice based on his reasons rather than yours. With one of the choices value-laden rather than neutral some otherwise on-the-fence respondents will unconsciously be tipped into a no answer because they disagree with or
are repelled by the reason you give for that choice. If you want to know what people think—will he or won’t he become a starter this year?—rather than if they agree with your reasoning, you need to offer non-value-laden choices.

Ayers
Ayers has gotten a lot of credit when i watch the game for helping make room for Dumervil. From what i have seen he has played well and just hasnt raked up the stats. I think he has been very good so far.
Go Broncos!

If you combine Ayers and Moss
You’d get one hell of a linebacker.

Moss
will solely be a special teams player or rotational fill in if there is any injury to the other LBs.

Actually closer to 500 pounds
I think that may make him a little more manuverable!:)

Ayres is already seeing plenty of time in sub packages...
and Haggen is playing well. I wouldn’t be surprised if the two share time all year, with Haggan’s experience holding off Ayres’ talent for one year.

I say Ayers starts by game #8.
Coming on quickly, very physical, hard to block, make DOOM that much better. Haggans backsup Ayers, and play rotationally and situationally. Dude makes too much money to just to be a backup or “work in progress”. Plus, this guy is just flat out good! Were lucky to have problems like this? Btw…Haggans is a great asset who could eventually move inside. He’s versatile, and he is a great special teams player also. We literally stole him from Buffalo. There’s something Shanny did right….haggans is a beast!0
Moss however just doesn’t get it. The game is just too big for him! But, he’s made millions off a 1 game career in college. Shanny bit hard, and took the bait on this one, when AnthonySpencer was sitting in our lap….jeez! Bet Jerry Jones couldn’t believe his good fortune….neither could we! At least Jarvis should be set up financially for life. So he’ll fare pretty well after he’s gone!

Don't hold your breath
I don’t see Ayers overtaking Hagan or Davis this year. Those two guys are playing solid. One year of rotational experience is a good friggin thing for this kid. You don’t play a guy just because of his contract.
Moss: I think it really depends on contract with this guy…he’s making too much money to be here longer than a year I think. If he wants to sign lower, it will be good though

I agree with you and have tried to make sense of the whole Moss situation.
We all know he had an illnessand was weakened from it, but it’s time to get off the pot. Not sure if he is a good fit fot the 3-4 defense.

Moss is a perfect fit for a 3-4 Defense
he is horrible fit as a 4-3 DE. In a 3-4 it allows him to use his greatest assest his speed and first step. He is probably our fastest OLB by far. The guy gets a bad rap here because he has been injured and the coaches have not played him. His first 2 years in the league the guy had horrible defensive coaches that could not help him reach his potential. It is hard to progress in the national football league if you have new coaches every year. Moss now has great coaches in McDaniels, Nolan and his positional coach Martindale who is a really good LB coach. Moss was a very raw player coming out of college who got selected in the first round on potential which happens all the time. Someone above mentioned Anthony Spencer who is no better. Spencer has been invisible in Dallas. People need to give Moss time. This coaching staff will help him reach his real potential. Also you never hear the coaching staff talking bad about this kid. I believe at the beginning of the season he was one of few players to wear a Black jersey which was for people that were doing the best in practice. Obviously he does not need to play if he is not ready because our rotation at OLB is great right now. The coaching staff looks completely fine letting him sit and learn.

You ,maybe right, he does have 'potential' or he wouldn't be here.
If he would bust out like a Julius Peppers then alot of people would see him different. Thus far it hasn’t happened.

Broncorat has got the right line of thinking
Under the system that is in place for the defense at this time each individual player will be playing when their skill set is the most advantageous for the team and what the coaches are trying to do. Who starts or who doesn’t isn’t relative from what I can tell, it gets your face on the starting lineup but that all it is worth. Moss is here for now and what happens after that surely none of us knows. The most important part of all is winning games and playing hard, it will be nice to get Larsen back on the field for ST.

don’t really have any constructive opinions about moss
they’re already finding plenty of ways in the rotation to get players like ayers and woodyard some quality playing time, so i’m not really concerned with who “starts” on the defense.
