Not thrilled, but not giving up.
If any of you have spent some time in the game threads, you know I'm usually intense. I say a lot of things, and most of them I don't mean. It's in the heat of the moment where I lose myself all too often. For that, I apologize Bronco brethren. Admittedly, I've been quick to yank my hair out by halftime, and given our teams lack of presence in the first half, I feel like I'm not the only one. However, McD usually finds a way to make things alright. Not today though.
I'm ok with a loss, but I'm not ok with giving up. I feel like this team gave up towards the end of the game. I don't know if it was crowd noise, or elongated drives for the Ravens offense, or maybe it was the Ravens defense keeping Orton off tempo all day long. For whatever reason, this team lost and lost pretty badly today. I'm not ashamed in a loss, but I'm ashamed of getting beat down. Were the penalties questionable? Sure they were, but it's part of the game. All we can do is hope the league takes a good look at the calls, and although it's not likely, they might just admit they blew a lot of calls.
I want to just point out 3 things that I noticed that were wrong today. They weren't "eh", they were flat out bad.
1. Mitch Berger. I don't know who the hell decided he was a better fit than Kern, but he's got to go. I doubt Kern would have done much better, but anything is better than what seems like a 25 yard punt average. That's terrible. I'm hoping McD and Preifer reassess his future in Denver. That kind of punting will kill you faster than any questionable officiating.
2. Offensive line. I know Ryan Harris' injury early on hurt the line, but to get blown apart THAT bad is inexcusable. I have no idea what happened to the O line today, but something needs to change. If you think Baltimore is daunting, wait until James Harrison and Co. roll into town.
3. Playcalling. I know it's hard to stretch vertically when your line isn't giving you enough time to make something happen, but I saw one fairly deep vertical attempt. ONE. The only reason why it mattered is because Foxworth got called for pass interference. Aside from that one attempt to make the passing game happen, there was nothing. I understand the idea of short screens and safe passes, but Baltimore isn't the Raiders. They know how to stop that. Oh, if you don't know, so does Pittsburgh.
Not all is bad, although there wasn't much to be happy about today. There is 2 things that made me feel a little bit like this team is going to keep getting better and advancing.
1. Including Peyton Hillis in the game plan. I have no doubt that Larsen's return made this more possible than any idea of Hillis being in the doghouse. Was Hillis in the house? Sure he was, but Larsen being out for 6 weeks will also have an effect on Hillis' inclusion in the plan.
2. Mario Haggan. He was all over today, and in my opinion, he definitely earned his check today. He made a few tackles for loss today, and that kind of play makes me understand more why he's a captain.
It's been a long day, both during and after the game. I don't really care if anyone replies to this, I just had to get things off my chest. My apologies again for the game threads, days like today would be better for everyone if I didn't have a keyboard to release frustration.

Knowshon
I didn’t like it when Knowshon blew a kiss to the Baltimore crowd when he scored the touchdown. I don’t like that showing off when you are getting your butt kicked.

Yeah...
that’s not a good thing either.

yeah that was BS.

I don't think 13-7 is getting your butt kicked
Give the kid a break. He scored his 3rd TD of the year, and we were fairly in the game at that time. At least he didn’t make a complete fool of himself like Washington did after he caught a 3rd-down pass.
We lost. It happens. Any given Sunday. I still like the sound of 6-1.
Bring on the Steelers! MNF!!

I thought he was going to Salute.

you were cracking me up
as the game started to slip away. no worries man.
it is a problem when a team can plan on a 15 yard area where you will make all your pass attempts.

Yup.
Like I said earlier, I’m tired of the heart attacks in the first half. If you play with fire, you’re bound to get burned.

It was the drive when Eddie Royal got handled before the ball got to him.
The ref’s clearly stopped a drive for the Broncos when we were still in the game. Bad call and I want to see ref’s start losing some of their tiny paychecks for making game changing decisions. Not just players who play rough and get fined for an aggressive hit.

Absolutely right.
I couldn’t believe that PI wasn’t called. Maybe not game changing, but our momentum was shot after that missed call

We can only wish....
Overall, this game was terribly called. In every single way.

Bottom line. If i say we are 6-1 iback n June, everybody would be saying halelulah.
MCD will look at the game tape and try to sort everything out. We are professionals. Anyway, we were kinda due for a loss. Ya know what i mean?

Well...
I’ll never ever say we’re “due” a loss, but if the team is going to lose, I’d rather lose to a good team like Baltimore as opposed to the Dolts or something.

Aaaaaaaah, the dolts. They didn't exactly tear up the field today.
The raidas stayed with them and had chances, go to show you how one team can play against another.

Feeling the pain as well Joe...
But I disagree with your impression that this Team gave up…I just think that they got out played today…They’ll be back and ready to play next week.

Refs did not lose the game
Broncos lost. It is not the end of the world, though. I’ll be OK if they lose to Pitt as well, but then rebound and beat SD.

no doubt we lost (Broncos)
but I still think you have to characterize this as a Ravens win. semantics i know but…
they took the respect they felt they deserved. Broncos did not.

Reality and the bye
Imo, you never want to go into a bye week when a team is hot and on a winning streak. A pure momentum breaker, if I ever saw one. The Broncos were beat in every phase of the game today, plain and simple. The Ravens played one hell of a game, which was their best effort by far this year. Harbaugh had a great defensive scheme and McD/team didn’t have an answer. So it’s back to reality for our Broncos. I like the team and their attitude. They will put this loss in perspective and move forward.

Did notice the smirk on Harbaugh's face when he knew they had us.
I loved that moment and if we get to play them in the playoffs it will be a different game I am sure.

I didn't see giving up...................
I saw a defense that spent too much time on the field today. They wore down which is natural when the O plays that bad and gets so many 3 and outs. Hey, it was one game, we got beat as every team does over the course of a season. We’ll be fine and I am not in the least bit worried. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our new DOOMesday Defense!!!! YOU LIKE??????????????

If you want to throw blame aournd
put this loss on the Oline. Orton never had time to throw.

No worries, Joe.
It takes all kinds of fans, and we need the fiery types as much as the laid back sorts.
I agree with all of your points, too, BTW. Although I had forgotten that everything less than perfect about this team is the fault of Kyle Orton. Glad Kosyong set me straight on that. All it took was a little threadjacking to do it.

Ravens D-Line just manhandled our O-Line...
No QB in this league is good enough to have any degree of success, let alone get into a rhythm that would allow him to drive the Team down the field consistantly, when the O-Line protection is only giving him 2 freaking seconds to take the snap, get back, go through (even start) his reads, maybe look off a DB or 2, and then get the ball out…IMO…Sheesh.
