Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

Agree with McGeorge, Boydy and other who voiced concerns

Broncos were outphysical'ed for once.  Dierdorf said the Ravens were winning on both the offensive and defensive line and I think I saw that duh!

Otherwise, that was a respectable defensive effort.  Baltimore could not run till late.  There was good pressure and receivers were well covered.  Flacco gets some credit, no, for extending plays and pull stuff out of his a**!  What about that little flip when he was going down, good for about 25 yds.  Hang on to your hats, because Rothlesberger has a lot of magician in him!

Kept waiting for that sack/fumble, that fumble, that INT, but they never came.  Looked for a few calls we did not get.  Suppose the no call on Reed hitting Royal in the back was a make up for Zo Smith's grabbing Clayton's jersey.  It didn't matter.

What the hell did they do to us on third down?  We got killed on third and long.  Have concerns about the lack of INT's.  Goodman was so-so, everything big was completed was to Goodman's side, although I saw Champ get burned by Washington and that was disheartening.

Lookit, the offense never had a chance.  Field position was lousy all day.  Berger's punting looked pretty limp, I was disappointed.  The second coming of Ray Guy or Reggie Roby would help.

That kickoff return for a touchdown killed us.  How did that happen?

The Ravens pass rush totally got off under ideal conditions and found a yellow brick road over Hamilton.  Did I see him getting tossed backwards on a play?  I suppose the tight ends were too busy, or were underutilized in the game plan.  That was disappointing.  Graham is one of their gamest players and I think he is consistently underutilized.  Like almost all qb's Orton looks pretty average when he can't set his feet, doesn't he?

Thanks!

Yeah, there is a second or so after he catches the ball where he just sort of hunkers down.

I feel your pain but...

any of us that were aware of the Broncos’ shortcomings knew that facing a desparate 3-3 team like the Ravens was going to be tough to beat in their home field. The Broncos need to be able to go down the field and protect Kyle Orton, in order to allow him to make plays. The Broncos, in my opinion, need to execute long plays to their wide receivers against an intense defense. Somehow, that was not going to happen on this day. Pass protection was key in this game, and it was not what it needed to be.

That said, the loss comes at a good time, because at least we got a wakeup call. The Denver Broncos are a good team, however, we need to get off to a better start by keeping drives alive and scoring better in the first half, and our 3rd and short situations will need to improve for us to achieve to that end.

We are finally no longer undefeated. And, with the Steelers coming into town on MNF next week, we get to focus our efforts on what we are, what we do best, and refocus on the fundamentals, as we will need them in order to regain the swagger we had going into the bye week.

Since we did not play to our potential against the Ravens, we will now realize that showing up is not enough. With that fire lit under them, I expect the Broncos to now win the next 2 games against the Steelers aned Chargers, as they will realize that 100% effort is required in order to beat opponents that are looking to take away what we do best.

Instead of “swinging for the fences,” the Broncos need to setttle down and continue to play what they started out playing in this season. That is, to play complementary football, be more intense on offense, create turnovers on defense, and play better coverage on special teams.

With the coaching staff that we have, I think we will correct our mistakes and learn from this matchup. Have faith…

I share your optimism Horespower

The return game, kick coverage and the punting s/b better than what we had today.

True

I have faith that they will wake up and realize that. When it matters, I believe that they will rise to the occasion.

Believe in our coaching staff. They are doing their job. Now it’s time for our players to listen and realize they need to use that extra gear to win games against tough opponents. Let’s find out how our team will respond in the next two weeks.

"Lookit, the offense never had a chance."

Well that’s not true, they were only down by a TD until mid 3rd quarter…. They had plenty of chances, they just couldn’t do anything

I agree

I actually thought our defense did a pretty good job for most of the game. They gave our offense plenty of chances to do something. I actually surprised with our time of possession because it felt like the defense out there all the time.

It's true the O Line got stuffed today

The receivers (especially Marshall) were either running shoddy routes or not getting open. There were a few dropped balls from the WR’s and Ed Reed had another go through his hands that should have been picked. Kyle threw one too far in front of Eddie that would have made a first down and killed one drive. Like you said, complimentary football. The Ravens finally played like they were supposed to play on defense too. So it looks like the 2 week furlough really did them more good than the Broncos.

I was loving the D most of the game

But Hamilton got eaten up big time.

There were a few plays where the Ravens OG’s were wrapping up and dragging our guys down and no calls. On one play our LB was grabbed and dragged down when he was well on his way to making a big stop for a loss.

Overall, the Ravens opened an Industrial Size Can Of Whoop@ss and used it on us. They just shoved it right down our throats.

We need to do this next week to Pittsburgh, or they will do it to us.

Absolutely!

I saw numerous horse-collar tackles of Elvis and nary a call!

Agreed, Kaptain

On more than one play Marshall came across the middle and developed “alligator arms”. On one occasion, Ray Lewis even laughed at his feeble effort. The pass routes were rounded off; not sharp and crisp. Lots to work on this week.. wouldn’t even be surprised to see a Saturday practice, with a Monday night game.

Gut check!

This is just gut check time. We still have a good team. Ravens kicked out rears in every aspect…but we tip our hats to them and move on. Every team has concerns and wekanesses and bad games and the grit of this team will be shown in how we respond. At the beginning of the year most of us would have taken 6-1 after 7 games.

I thought the defense played really well. They were worn out the 2nd half of the 4th quarter and the team new the game was over by then. Up to that point, they had given up 16 points. When your D gives up 16, you’ve got to find a way to score.

We got totally punched in the mouth.

I think we needed to take more shots down the field to keep the defense honest, especially when their corners are their weakness.

If you take out Eddie Royal’s 2 TD returns against SD, I think he’s had a lousy year as a return guy. I think he’s especially poor on kickoff returns and actually looks a little afraid (as would I). I would keep him on punt returns and put in someone else for kickoffs, especially since we can’t have him hurt. Of course, there may be no one else.

Our new punter sucked.

Also,

the Broncos defense were on the field 7-1/2 minutes longer than the Ravens D. That’s the price paid when your offense sputters.
