What Denver Should Do, IMHO
First off, I am not off the bandwagon. I've been on it since FA started, and we got some good, hardworking players such as Fields, Davis, Hill, Goodman, Gaff, and others. As teams were putting down mortgages to get big name players, McD was getin players almost as good for much cheaper. At that time I knew we had a special guy at HC, now, after watching the last 2 games, I am slightly concerned. I feel we need to change somethings, but, I am confident McD will do them, or other things to help our team
ST&NO beat me to the punch on Hamilton. The guy is done. I used to love the guy, as he was very small, yet he could tussle with the big boys, but now, he's lost what he had, which never really was great. I like Ted's idea of trying Olsen, as he seems to be Ben's heir and can't do much worse. However, put me down as a Hochstein supporter. The guy has gotten a lot of playing time, and I want to see if he can do better than Hamilton. Now, there are more problems than Ben, as a bad OG game usually doesn't equate to 2 crappy overall team games.
2nd, Ayers needs to be given more responsibility. I see him easily bull rush pretty much every OT he's gone against, but then he stops, as he is usually gettin contain duties. I understand this when Doom is on the field, but on many of these Ayers contain plays, Doom was not in. When Doom is not in, I would like to see Ayers be given more freedom, as I feel he could get a sack by knockin an OT right into a QB.
3rd, The one move I questioned this offseason was the acquisition of ST coach, Mike Priefer. The guy has been in the league for about a decade. He hasn't stayed with a team for more than 3 years, and every new team he goes to is worse than the last. I really don't like the way he is coaching this unit, which has some good players, such as woodyard, larsen, bruton, etc. I'm not sure if firing him mid season is a good idea, but if ST play doesn't improve, I don;t see a better option.
4th, to help the run, put in more Quinn, Larsen and Graham packages. We usually only do this at the end of the game when we know we have already won. I feel when we have trouble running against teams like yesterday, we should use this to smack them in the mouth.
That's all I have for now, If I think of anyothers, I'll update this
