Why this Sunday is Most Important: The Sequel(Die Harder)

Yesterday I created a fanpost that some of you enjoyed and thought was a realistic viewpoint on what we've been facing so far this year.  You can read it right here.  I began to doubt even myself, after browsing some "rankings" online.  The bleacher report has us rather low now, and most quote-experts-unquote are bringing us down, wondering if we're as good as we say.  Lord knows the Colts, Saints, Patriots, Eagles, Cowboys, etc...are better than we are, having lost TWO GAMES IN A ROW!!!  ZOMG I burned my Koutouvides jersey I was so mad!!

But seriously, do we suck that bad?  Does Orton really need to go?  Should we apologize to Colin Cowherd for being upset at his 'insightful' comments on the Broncos?  Well, I wanted another look at how bad this 6-2 Denver team really was.  After some scrounging on the net, I found the Gridiron Grotto, and they had some insight for me.  They have an up to date list of the teams with their schedule strength.  Picture after the jump!

If it's too small to read, the actual link is at this address.

But let's take a look at what it shows us.  We are 6-2.  And we have the 10th hardest schedule in the league so far.  Over the Vikings(19), Steelers(22), Saints(24), Patriots(27), Cowboys(28), Chargers(29), Eagles(30, and those undefeated Colts(31).  If someone were to tell you in August, "Oh, by the way, the Broncos will have the 10th hardest schedule in the league come early november, and you'll be 6-2," would you be upset?  Jumping ship?  Honestly, I think you'd be buying your "Obama/Neckbeard 2012" T-Shirt right away! (Substitute Palin/Neckbeard or Nader/Neckbeard accordingly).

Now, remove Cleveland and Oakland from that list.  Two of the arguably worst three teams in the league(Oakland is always the worst team in the league, including the 2003 Super Bowl.  Even then, routing for the Raiders is a flawed plan)!  4-2 against Cincinnati(6-2), Dallas(6-2), New England(6-2), San Diego(5-3), Baltimore(4-4), and Pittsburgh(6-2).  We beat 4 out of 6 of those teams, guys and gals!  Remember early september?  "I just want us to play hard!"  "I just don't want any blowouts."  "I don't care if we're 4-12, as long as we play a full 60 minutes."  Well, here we are, so shut your whining gas traps up and be happy, because as far as the league is concerned, we PWN!

However, as I said in my earlier post, this Sunday is a HUUUUGE Game.  Call it a freebie, call it a gimme, go to your neighbor's kid's Bar Mitzvah/Sweet Sixteen/Graduation/Bris instead of watching the game because it's a no brainer; but be forewarned.  This game decides who we are as a team and whether we can win the games we need to.  We went 4-2 against, as Jules Winnfield would put it, the Bad Mother----ers.  But now, two losses in a row, this is a time for the team to show: us(the fans), themselves(the team), and all those raiders/chargers/bears fans who heckle us in the forums that we are for real and not the 2008 Broncos that will lose to random pathetic teams.  I am super psyched for this Sunday, and you should be too!  It's been over a month since we played a team with a losing record!  I've nearly forgotten what it's like!  Let's soak it up and WIN WIN WIN BRONCOS!!!

P.S.: If you're a Raiders fan, I didn't mean to offend you.  But seriously, move on.  Watch the A's or something, your team is bad.  Al Davis is a vampire, he'll still own the team in 2054 and you'll still be watching John Madden highlights.  Come to the Orange and Blue.  There is redemption available.  I can only show you the door, you have to open it.

I am sitting in the library

and had to burry my head into my sweater not to make any sound while laughing so hard about your “Burn my Koutovides jersey” remark… HILARIOUS

Great post, and wha a great website. Will be checking that more often now.

Let's go a little deeper into that chart...

Of the probable playoff teams, only Atlanta and Baltimore have had harder first-half schedules – .589 and .571 respectively compared to Denver’s .536.

Meanwhile, the undefeated Colts, have had the SECOND SOFTEST schedule so far. Heck, we’d be 8-0 too, if we got to play in their fantasy land.

Playoff-caliber teams residing in the top-ten according to hardest schedule:
Only Atlanta, Baltimore, and Denver.

Possible playoff teams feasting off bottom feeders according to ten softest schedules:
New Orleans, New England, Dallas, San Diego, Philidelphia, Indianapolis.

ALSO, only three teams have, so far, FOUR WINS over teams with winning records:
Denver, Arizona, and Cinncinati. All three look like they are headed for the playoffs.

Finally, ONLY Atlanta, Baltimore, Denver, Cincy, and Arizona have winning records by playing other teams with winning records.

No need to panic. In fact, Denver’s getting toughened for the playoffs while some of these teams are getting fat and soft.

Exit question: how bad are the Redskins with a 2-6 record and the WEAKEST schedule in the NFL? Yikes!

Ha ha ha!

I noticed that as well, regarding the Skins. All the more reason we gotta win. What a sad state of affairs for them.

Something else I noticed

If you look at the top 15 teams on that list, it’s the teams who’s schedule has been over 5.000 so far. Of the 15 teams, only 4 have a winning record. Falcons, Broncos, Cardinals, Bengals. That’s pretty impressive as well imo.

Focus, for a moment, on the Chargers...

They are talked about still as a wildcard team. Bottom ten of the league in terms of strength of schedule and have not yet beaten a WINNING team. The Giants crossed my mind when I wrote that but they are only 4-4.

also

the local fishwrap here had a stat in the past 4 games SD is #1 vs. the pass. However they fail to mention they have played KC and Oakland in two of those 4 games. I am so tired of the wat out for SD bs. SD’s pash rush is still bad, they cant run the ball and I foresee them losing their next 2 games

I was looking at Indy's soft schedule...

They only play three teams TOTAL that they might meet again in the playoffs: New England, Baltimore, and Denver. Those games are coming up in the next four weeks. Both the Broncos and the Colts could be 12-2 at that meeting!

Your stats are a week old....

If you update them it will only help prove your point. Nice job and rec’d.

Old?

Aren’t the Broncos recently 6-2?

by MileHighfrom on Nov 12, 2009 3:53 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

Denver's Opponents are a combined 36-28.

The opponents records and winning percentages are based off week 8, not week 9 on the above chart. Get a calculator and do so math..
