Cutler INT count

He's now at 17, with 14 TDs I think. What's his rating? Hmm... That's not necessarily all his fault any more than Orton's 3 picks on Sunday were, but I think statements about Cutler being a 'franchise' QB are a bit overstated. He doesn't bring up the level of his team. I watched last year's pro bowl on NFL Rewind, you know. It was disgusting. I know the game isn't worth anything, really, but a guy ought to have pride as a football player. Yeah, I'm sure he wants to get the job done, but I don't think he has the mental tools at the moment, and the Bears don't look like a team that's destined to have stability down the road. I'm glad we don't have Cutler now, but it's a shame for him that he isn't with the Broncos.

Good Riddance

This guy is getting exactly what he deserves. He wanted to be ‘the man’ even if it meant having no receivers and a lousy O-line. Be careful what you wish for.

It was telling that Jake Plummer compared Cutler with Jeff George. That may be exactly the career he ends up having.

NFL Network just showed his stats on primetime this year

3 TDs and 11 picks (all losses). Perfect time to show the nation who he is.

Bears are in trouble for the next several years

The sad thing about this is that the Bears defense is actually playing much better this year than they did in 2008, the Bears OL and WR are also an improvement over the Ol and WR in 2008, that just shows you how bad the Bears is.

Instead of keeping Grossman and Orton and rebuilding the OL and spending money to get an experience receiver, the Bears trade away their draft picks for a more mobile version of Rex Grossman and by giving Cutler a big contract extension, Cutler will screw up the Bears cap space for next year. The Broncos will probably be getting a top 10 pick next year.

whoa

haha have you seen how bad our OL is? it’s ridiculously worse than last year. WR’s are improved, but that’s it.

just noticed your post

Please don’t take offense at anything I say about JC…it’s kind of like talking about my ex-wife…it just brings out the worst in me. Even though there is a grain of truth in everything I feel and say, I’ll just express it in the worst possible way.

Bears defense played very well today

but not the prior two games. This team is in trouble for all the reasons you cited…. PLUS an aging defense.

LMAO.

Have you even watched a Chicago Bears game all year?

Our “better” defense has been inconsistent, at best. They’ve had a few good outings: last night, Pittsburgh and against Cleveland (huzzah). But for the majority of the season, they have been substandard – or horribad. They looked lost, coming out of a bye week, against Atlanta as soon as Ryan came out in a no huddle. The Bengals scored on their first SEVEN possessions. Two weeks later, the Cardinals almost did a perfect reenactment, scoring on their first SIX possessions.

And our “offensive” line, while supposed to be an improvement, is a joke. Angelo was an 0’fer on his three free agent off-season OL acquisitions, and Cutler is paying the price. Not too mention that our one-time stud of a center’s play has seemed to go disappear faster triple whopper value meal sitting in front of Jamarcus Russell. And please don’t construe that as blame-casting, I know Cutler has played his part in all of this.

I posted this (below) in the post game thread at WCG, which I think summarizes the Bears season to this point…

There’s so many problems…
Offensive line, defensive line, lack of running game (could be attributed to OL, might not), turnovers, bad decisions, receivers dropping off routes, secondary issues, linebackers being banged up, other injuries to key players, our soft cover two that is allowing receivers to eat up the field, penalties, not being prepared, coaching, bad luck…

The thing is, not all of those things are wrong every week… or every quarter for that matter. When one unit is playing well, the other unit is costing us the game. Not to mention how frustrating it has to be for the players, which probably only adds to the inconsistent play.

The Bears will be fine, not that it really matters here at MHR. I’m just here to clarify some of your fictional conceptualizations of our team.

And I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but the Bears should be alright for 2010. I don’t fully understand the financials of the game like Kirk does, but the Bears gave #6 his extension this year for a reason. That being said, will any of that matter if there’s no agreement reached with the CBA?

When one unit is playing well, the other unit is costing us the game.

Yeah, I think we Bronco fans can identify with that statement, especially over the last few years.

It really gets you as a fan when you see the potential there, but the pieces rarely seem to fall into place at the same time. With the great teams, part of what makes them great is that consistency.

Hang in there, bro.

It does get to you.

And it sucks, but I’m of the mind set to never get too high or too low. I left the second part of the quoted section out, it stated that not all is lost for Bears fans.

We have Cutler signed through 2013. Our young receivers are getting more experience and playing better. Our defense, even with the age misconception, is going to get healthy eventually. And we have shown signs of being a decent team, so I do believe we’re close. Things just aren’t panning out right yet.

Building a good team takes time. And our offense has been bad for a while, so I never really expected Cutler to come in and overhaul it overnight. My biggest problem with Sizzle is that he hangs his head too much. It’s nit-picky, but I kinda wanna see our offensive leader on the sideline watching the game instead of on the bench sulking after a pick. Something I’ve paid particular attention to after talking to some of the MHR faithful over the past few months.

Anyways, enough Bears talk on a Broncos blog. Go get them Skins this week! Even thought they suck, they’re still my least favorite team in the NFL and I rejoice when they lose.

An excerpt…

Chicago – we payed top dollar for filet and McDaniels gave us ground chuck. The “Sizzle” is gone and all we’re left with is the char from an overcooked and overpriced steak. It’s official, we’ve been burned!

It's odd too..

because if you run the numbers, the moves (besides Omiyale, ftw?) made a lot of sense. On paper, with Williams (although unproven) and Pace, we were 10x better off than last year with St. Clair and Tait. Now, we can’t run the ball and Cutler has less than two seconds to get a pass off. Not exactly a good recipe for success.

And I’m not sure who dubbed him Jay “Sizzle,” it was in the pre-season is all I know.

delusional !

I watched the Bears played since 1981, how about you ? I just love all the excuses, Cutler is not doing well because of the Bears OL, defense, Wr. The Bears OL of this year is not an upgrade over last year ? really ? Tait and St CLaire is better than C. Williams and Pace ? The Bears defense ranked 21st last year, this year the Bears defense ranked 12th in the NFL right now and that is not an improvement over last year ? 12th ranked is not better than 21st ranked ? really ?

Last year the Bears defense got double digit leads in the 4th quarter in the Carolina and TB game only to make mistakes and lose those two games, the Bears defense also gave away the game in Atlanta last year. Show me how many games the Bears defense have gave up this year when they had a double digit leads in the 4th quarter ? How many close games did the Bears defense lose this year ? How about none. Cutler had a far better defense, WR and a slightly better OL this year than Orton had last year and still Cutler choke on the 3 close games so far (GB, Atl, SF). Look at the Packers OL, they are among the worst in the NFL, Aaron Rogers got sacked more times than Cutler and yet Rogers is still putting up good passer rating and did not turn the ball over. Stop the excuses!

I watched the Bears played since 1981

Congratulations, here you go…

Especially since my question was if you watched them play THIS year, and not since ‘81. Anyone can pull up stats like overall defensive rankings and cherry pick an argument out of it. So, if that’s what you’re gonna do, there’s really no need to try with you.

All I can tell you is that yes, our entire offensive line IS worse than it was last year. Williams is an improvement and he’s getting better, but this is still his first year on the field and he’s learning.

Pace, while I believed in the signing originally, has not been panning out. I’ve said it before, but there’s a reason the Rams let him go. For every nice block he makes, the next two are terrible. And Pace and Williams are only two positions on the line.

In the off-season, Angelo signed a backup tackle from Carolina, named Frank Omiyale, specifically to take over the RT spot. That was before the Pace pickup, which moved Williams from the left side to the right. Since Omiyale was given a huge contract, he was pretty much guaranteed a starting spot. So, the Bears have (or had) him playing guard, which has been disastrous, eventually getting him dubbed “Gate 68.” Frank may eventually pan out at RT, but it’s not happening for him at the Guard spot, and not happening this year.

And then we have Kruetz, whom I adore, but his play this year has been awful.

So yes, our line has been worse than it was last year. Jay has about a good 2-3 seconds to get the ball out of his hands before he has a guy in his face.

And while our defenses “rank” has improved overall, there have been games when they haven’t seemed to show up at all, ie. Cincinnati (seven scores in first seven possessions) and Arizona (six scores in first six possessions). Pull whatever stats you like, but that is not a great defense.

That’s the thing, when our defense does show up, our offense seems to be absent or vice versa. Or our special teams (who I still believe is one of the best in the leagues) gives up a big play at a critical time (Falcons). Our no one shows up at all (Bengals). Or we get a good showing from the entire team (Pittsburgh). Our team is not a consistent team. We can be good in every phase, or we can be bad in every phase. We are just not consistent, which throws your “stats” and “rankings” into a gray area.

And again, I’m not blaming all our woes on EBC (everything but Cutler). But I am saying that we have a lot of deficiencies right now and Jay is not the entire reason for it. Our offensive line IS worse. Our defensive line IS there one week and gone the next. Our team IS lacking discipline, racking up penalties. Our team IS banged up and we have a lot of people injured. Our coaches are NOT getting our guys prepared. And yes, Cutler IS making some bad decisions with the ball and especially in the red zone. And that’s only to name a few.

But since you’ve watched EVERY game since ’81, you knew all this right?!?

Enjoy your cookie.

jay was playing with a hangover at the Pro Bowl.

Hard working people paid hard earned money to see a good football game. You all make of it how you want, I see it as very immature.

(The cabana boy comment is over the top.) However, for those who have never been, the Mai Tai’s at the Royal Hawaiian in Honolulu are without doubt the best in the world at the outside bar that has a great view of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head.

He’s one interception away from having as many as he had last year. And we thought he was bad last year.

According to my daughter

he also has as many INTs as Orton, Favre, Romo and Garrard combined.
