On the outside for a week
What's up Broncos fans. I haven't been around for the better part of week due to a busy school schedule. Anyways, while I was studying my bum off (and waiting in line Monday night for Modern Warfare 2), I've neglected my friends at MHR. It's not that I don't show my face when a loss occurs, it's that I don't show my face when it needs to be shown elsewhere. Anyways, with that aside, I have popped in to read comments occasionally and I'm fairly disgusted with what some of you have been saying. I'm not the kind of guy that passes judgment, and anyone who has seen me during game day threads knows I'm a pretty emotion-on-the-sleeve kind of guy.
This week, since I haven't paid much attention to the Broncos and there happenings, I've had an ample opportunity to view the loss from the outside looking in. You would think that Kyle Orton pulled a move like this. Hey, that's cool though, his neckbearded goodness isn't for everyone. Criticism of the neckbeard doesn't bother me, as long as it's warranted and educated What does bother me, however, is when people fly completely off the handle and make statements like "Bench Orton!" or "Orton sucks and he always will!" Like I said, I've been known for flying off the proverbial handle for a lot of things during a game, but I haven't ever said Orton should be benched. Did he have a poor performance? I'd say piss poor based on the game I saw (thanks DVR).
But, there is always a silver lining, just ask a Raiders fan. They've become masters at finding the silver lining in everything. That is by no means an insult to the Raiders fans around the world either, in fact, I envy it to some extent. I just wish you Broncos "fans" would realize that Kyle Orton's mediocre game is not only on his shoulders. A lot Most of a quarterback's success relies on his receivers and his offensive line. From what I saw, the receivers did fairly well, although they had trouble getting separation later on in the game. The offensive line though? Those cats got handled and beat down like Titans fan's dignity after a loss like this.
What I'm trying to say, friends, is maybe you should step back for a second and really think about who the Broncos lost to. They didn't lose to the Chiefs or the Bucs, they lost to the defending Super Bowl champs. There is no shame there. Aside from that, I don't know if any of you are aware, but they have an incredibly talented defense that really plays above the rim. You might argue that just like Baltimore, this was a must win game for the Steelers. The AFC North is looking to be the best division in football this year--by a pretty large margin and they don't want to lose any grip they might have at the division title.
I'm not going to say you have no right to criticize Kyle Orton for doing this or not doing that. What I am saying though, is get your facts straight before you make harsh calls. You want Orton benched? Well, if you know so much about football, why aren't you the head coach of the Denver Broncos? I heard they had an opening in January. Maybe you did go and apply, and your knowledge (or lack thereof) of what actually happens on the field was lacking. I'm not flinging insults for no reason. I'm just dishing a little back at those who feel the need to pointlessly hate on Kyle Orton because he replaced your previous boy candy. I have almost no doubt in my mind that most of you "fans" are still pissed that Cutler's not around. I'm sure some of you "fans" are always going to blame McDaniels for what transpired, even though recent events would give some evidence that the only factor at work was money.
I'm sure most of you "fans" demand perfection and the team that most were considering a lost cause.
Like I said in a previous post earlier in the week, let's say Denver makes the playoffs, isn't that what you were considering a successful season in July and August? Why would anything less than 16-0 be considered a failure now?
Or is it too much to ask for a little understanding that all players have bad games. If you don't believe me, ask this guy.
Peace.

Finally took a break from MW2, eh?
I’ve used MW2 to help alleviate any bad juju left over from the past two weeks. Give it a shot, Joe.

Great post Joe!
Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

Not only did they lose to the Super Bowl champs, they also lost to the other AFC championship game representative, Ravens.
Two very stout teams. Great post Joe.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

CJ if you are playing MW2, I think you're gonna be on the "inside" for about a month:-)
Good post, man. The Playoffs are coming, and we are gonna be in that picture.

Dude, MW2 is incredible.
I can’t put it down! haha. I will put it down long enough to catch the Broncos play tomorrow, and that’s about it.

Kyle Orton doesn't have to expiate (atone) himself for anything.
His struggles can be attributed to coaching scheme, absent of the running game and O line not doing their job. Kyle has done more than we should ever expect given the circumstances. The HC has himself to blame for the poor play calling and the refusal to inject the necessary players (Hillis) to get the job done. Maybe I’m wrong, but for 4 1/2 games last year HIllis was almost unstoppable with much the same O Line as we have now. So, it all boils down to blocking scheme. If it isn’t working McD fix it.
