John and Friends Predict....Week 10 in the NFL
John and various members of the staff here are once again competing in the annual MHR Pick'em challenge. You will notice the Denver Broncos game is not included. We'll just say everyone roots for the Broncos each week! Guru's wife is a Patriots fan, so her pick will be of the Broncos game. Just so homerism doesn't affect the outcome again this year.

You didn't
get to vote ‘Who Cares’ on OAK/KC? Too bad…it’s a gutsy call to vote NE on the road over IND. Should be a heck of a game.

Wow
No one likes Indy at home? Neither do I t be honest, but I’m surprised to see the Pats across the board.

Anyone hear Brian Griese
doing the color commentary on ESPN’s UMiami at UNC game today? Just watched part of it but he was actually quite good I thought. Good to see him employed! ;-)
Btw I wouldn’t be stunned to see the Jaguars upset the Jets even on the road. Not sure I’d pick against the NYJ either but Jax winning wouldn’t stun me. Nor would Indy winning of course.
I’m sooooo glad the Raiders Chiefs game is on TV here. :-/

The Dolts are going to beat the Eagels in SD. The Eagels just are not very good. Peters has been terrible for them and they don’t run the ball.
I’m surprised so many of you picked a bad Chicago team playing on the road on a Thursday night game.
Carolina may beat ATL, but most of the other picks look good.

Good points, McG
I was really surprised when Philly took on Peters – he was pretty bad last season, with 11.5 sacks. That’s not a slump – that’s awful. The outcome hasn’t been surprising, though. He’s still bad. CAR/ATL looks like fun and I can see it either way.

I don’t want to be accused of believing in the Dolts because I don’t. It’s just that I don’t believe in the Eagles either.

The Eagles are going to regret signing Peters to big money. He is just like Gerard Warren. As soon as he got paid, he turned it off.
Not that he was that good in the first place. Peters is the starting LT on my all overrated team.
Jay Cutler will have to be the QB on that team with Aaron Rodgers as the back up.

Pffft.
Hater. Aaron Rodgers is solid. Tell me you wouldn’t want him as your team’s QB (I love Orton, but I’m just saying, Rodgers is someone I could cheer for).

Rodgers is overrated. Just watch him finish another season as starting QB for a losing NFL team. A team that has great WRs, a good RB and an awesome home field advantage. Yet he seems to find ways to wind up on the losing end of so many close games. Hummm.
He is no where close on an elite QB. His excellence is little more than a function of an adoring media. I’d take at least 10 other NFL QBs over Rodgers.
But to your point, Orton is not one of them.

I don't think so. I think it's a common belief, held by many, that the Pats are better than the colts.
I am with them. I think the colts are vastly overrated. They haven’t really played anybody to show they can beat a good team. They beat houston and miami. Those two teams are average, but not good. The 49ers gave the colts fits last week. We all saw how dynamic the 49er offense is when we watched them put up 10 points against the bears despite being given 5 INTs.
The colts are ready for a fall. It’s a miracle that they got such a cake schedule. I’m not saying they aren’t worthy of being a playoff team, but they are definitely unworthy of being considered the best team in football. Tom Brady should make short work of them on sunday.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Hmm?
As far as “easy” schedules go, ask the Redskins how that’s worked out for them. Besides, don’t you think it’s unfair to say “they haven’t really played anybody” when just a few weeks ago people were saying the same thing about Denver?
The 49ers gave them “fits,” but they still pulled out a win. Meanwhile, New England hasn’t blown out their opponents any more than Indy has. They had to come back to beat Buffalo, and the Ravens game had many very questionable calls. They could have easily started the season 1-4. Plus, Indianapolis has allowed the fewest passing TDs this season. That has to mean something for a game like this.

I never said the Redskins were a good team, though.
The colts are overrated IMO because they have played good against bad teams. The redskins are a bad team because they played poorly against bad teams.
It’s a different situation between the broncos and colts. The broncos were said to be overrated and “they haven’t played anybody” until week four. Weeks 1 2 and 3 looked really weak before Cincinnati went on a tear and decided to be a good team. I don’t think you can argue that the broncos “haven’t played anybody” after beating three division leaders and SD who is second in the division.
Of course, Indy has allowed the fewest passing TDs this season. Look at who they played. The TItans, Rams, Dolphins, and Jags are tied for 25th in the league in passing TDs. That is half of their schedule played terrible passing offenses. The seahawks would have ranked lower in passing TDs if it weren’t for the 41-0 trouncing of the (also terrible) Jacksonville Jags and 28-0 against the rams and 32-20 on the lions.
You could basically conclude that 5 of the 8 teams the Colts have played were in the bottom third of the league in passing offense. That explains why the colts look prolific on pass defense. They better bring their A game with a banged up secondary against Tom Brady and Welker and Moss.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

look at the reaction to the Giants going 4-0...I see the same thing with the Colts here...

Power of the average
After the San Diego win and all during the bye week the MSM bombarded us with talk of half time adjustments: “opponents third down percentage of 2/35 through 6 weeks” and a 76-10 scoring advantage after halftime. Maybe it gets said so oftent that the team believes the statistic as fact. I remember one instance from back in 86 when every announcer would correlate 20 points scored by the Broncos= a victory by the Broncos. This trend held up through the playoffs and “The Drive” against Cleveland. What happens in the Super Bowl? The Broncos lose 20-39.
Its like when an announcer says Kicker A has not missed a kick between 38 and 40 yards on the road in the last 6 seasons. What does he do? Miss the kick.
Maybe the opposition buys into the trend also.Denver doesnt allow 3rd down conversions in the second half.Lets show the world that we can convert on 3rd down. The Broncos dont allow any points in the second half.Let’s make a close game a rout in the 4th quarter. That is exactly what the Ravens and Steelers did to Denver in succesive weeks, convert on 2nd down and score points in the 4th quarter.
It also went against Denver back in 06 when they had the TD streak going and everybody was searching for a nickname for the defense.By the end of the year the defense had earned something,a trip to the offseason.
By this logic,Denver will throw the balldown the field and be able to run the ball short yardage in the coming weeks.Denver has just faced thhe two best defenses they will play all year and though Denver has had success against Pittsburgh in the past, once again the MSM brought up the face that Pittsburgh hasnt won in Denver since 1990.However,I will dispute that Pittsburgh won on the road because there were way too many terrible towels and Steelers jerseys for it to be a Denver home game.

Well, the MSM was wrong
because the Steelers came into Denver and beat them in the AFC Championship game back in 2007 (?).
