It was a good idea, I think. They just had Moreno run big. The defense has to respect the run.
So they rolled the bootleg out there. However, once Simms saw it was triple coverage, either run it out or throw it away. I don’t blame the play call at all.

You can’t really put it all on the defense when they were left out on the field so much in the second half. What I question about your statement ...
… is that the team KNOWS that Orton can play. Sure they may be showing frustration but is it because they KNOW Orton can play … or is it because they have frustration at the lack of offense under Simms … or the fact that Orton can’t play … or the fact that the defense is exhausted … or the wasted opportunities in the first half … instead you ahve come to an amazing conclusion by watching body language that they are upset with the coach because they KNOW Orton can play and McDaniels won’t let him. If your career hinges on that kind of body language reading you best get your resume out.

McGeorge, are you saying they shouldn’t have called a single pass play the rest of the game? They’d been eating them alive with play fakes. Calling one passing play — if only to keep the safeties back — is fine. I’m as nauseated as anybody, but I’ve never seen people so angry over one pass call.
Dude, on the play action the linebackers bought it and he had 2 guys open underneath.
That was a Cutler play where he made up his mind to throw deep.

Can we all agree that Priefer has to go?
After that, we can argue.
I will never understand the idea that calling a passing play when Simms threw the INT was automatically bad coaching. You cannot run the ball every play. The Redskins had been biting hard on play fakes all day. If the QB does his job (checks down or throws the ball away) they run it for 5 with Moreno the next down. And it’s all fine.
Laying into the D when they were on the field nearly 40 minutes is bush-league.
The real question is why Mike Priefer was hired.

We don't diasgree.
But calling ANY passing play AT ANY TIME when Simms makes a decision like that is going to look terrible.
I understand running more. And running right there. It’s what I wanted. But people hated that play at that time because Simms made a terrible throw. I just want everybody to separate out the two things.
Simms should have never been put into position to make that terrible throw. He had done everything to prove he was not ready to make passes today and we gave him a great chance to ruin the game. Epic coaching fail. Like the fake punt.
This is my favorite website.
I agree the fake punt was bad coaching, but I don't think the Simms INT was bad coaching.
That was just dumb decision making. Simms had other reads in that play. It’s not like he only had one guy running a route. He had scheffler underneath. I’m sure that he will be chewed out for throwing into triple coverage. It was not a bad play call on McD, though. They ran the ball well on the previous play and then they faked it the same way to run the bootleg.
So, I couldn’t disagree more on this issue. McD is not to blame for that pick.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

I'll be praying for it, and that Simms gets cut too. I'd rather see Tom Brandstater as the backup

If Orton can’t go, let a rookie who may help us in the future get a chance. Simms is a waste.

Simms just looked really bad today

Isn't that making the same mistake
as assuming Simms could do a better job than Orton?

hopefully not the same kind of injury. that was a high ankle sprain which is really tough to get over.
today looked a little less severe. strain or something.

they are the real deal
no doubt about it
John Clayton is the head Dean at Fail University (known as F.U. in short)
Formerly known as Calijoefornia
We are a work in progress
we all new it at the beginning of the year…no diff, we just got teased a bit whit the 6-0 start. now back to reality. We will win a couple more, at least I hope we do.
How many of us really believed we would be going to the superbowl or even the playoffs in Aug? Go Bronco’s
could still happen
but that would be a major victory with what this team has gone through…. would be great but if not we will be alright….got to get our mojo back
Me too.
McDaniels has coached some good games this year, and some bad ones. This was the latter but he IS a rookie. This team is learning his system and he’s still learning how to be the top dog. We knew the second half of the season was going to be tough.
Well, welcome to the second half of the season. I don’t know how this is going to end but they can still turn this around. We know this team can play, they just didn’t do it today. But they’ll get another chance next week. I’m sticking by them.

This is our team, win or lose….We all say things when we are po’d and being beat like today but it is still our team. 0-16, and still my team, just wouldn’t be fun to be around. haha
i still think this team is a playoff team.
still could prove me wrong though.

What, you don't want to throw around the 'suck'?
This person sucks. That person sucks. Everything sucks. Suck, suck suck.
Let’s just gut the roster midseason because a team that was 6-0 and playing well three weeks ago is suddenly full of people who ‘suck’.
They just failed to execute today, big time. But it can be corrected. Stupid name calling and whining isn’t going to solve anything, although it might make you feel better for a few minutes.

The defense
was disappointing. I’ve never seen so many missed tackles. What has happened to this defense.
to be fair,
this was the first game where we saw bad defense, not just a defense tired out by lopsided TOP

Take a look at the 2nd half TOP...the redskins dominated it. Our defense got tired.
That’s why we shouldn’t always throw deep, it doesn’t allow our defense to get any rest. Simple as that.

Against the Skins?
After Orton was out, they needed to answer the call. They dropped the ball. I know the offense didn’t help, but they had to step it up.
The D was tired from
being on the Field practically the entire 2nd half
by gnarlybroncodude on Nov 15, 2009 2:13 PM MST up reply actions
Exactly.
Simms hasn’t played in three years and there’s a reason he’s the backup. The defense has been keeping us in games this year and they just folded – right when the offense was getting it together.

Sad. Depressing.
I’m just so pissed at all those people who practically begged for Simms — all because Orton had a tough time with big lineman in his face the last couple weeks.
Fact is, the defensive line got manhandled; and the missed holding call on the deep pass to Royal came back to hurt us.
Not to mention the should be fumble that couldn't be reviewed because of "forward progress".
The replay even showed that the whistle blew after the ball came loose!! We should’ve won this game!

No, everything is the quarterback's fault. Everything. All the time.
All you have to do is change quarterbacks and everything else will magically fall into place. Right?
Right? LOL

I agree the Defense played horrible
the the Offense could not do anything in the 2nd half. The Defense was on the Field way to long today, they are going to get tired and break down at some point when the TOP is so one sided
by gnarlybroncodude on Nov 15, 2009 2:14 PM MST up reply actions
Yep
And right after Moreno gashes across the 50, we run a play action and Simms makes a TERRIBLE decision to throw to the end zone. Just throw that ball away and get back to pounding the football.
by Broncoholic_07 on Nov 15, 2009 2:15 PM MST up reply actions
That was the play that lost the game, I thought.
You keep running and short passing, and give your tired defense time to recover.
Awful throw into triple coverage. Awful read, period.
Agreed. I like that they took a look at it, but Simms shouldn't have let that ball go.

a lotta positives.
if we back up a bit here.
a lot of us were asking for the deep ball… well, case closed. its is a possibility, and our players can execute it.
Moreno had a great game against a really good defense.
hochstein shored up the rush, and helped give orton a ton of time to read, and simms time to… fail.

Not just ST and offense
Our tackling and tackling desire really sucked.I mean as bad as last year. So,so many times they just ran through tackle after tackle. The intensity of our defense has gone missing.Maybe they’re all tired?Maybe they’re thinking of the holidays?Well,if they don’t start making the 1st tackle they’ll have plenty of holiday.Yes,Simms did not look good,Clady gave up a sack,Buck fumbled,Orton missed Royal and Ayers dropped a sure pick 6.All these things would have put it away early but even on the long bombs to Marshall Orton didn’t hit him in stride. We probably need alot more than people think to be a championship team.I would bring in Colquit for punting duties and work on tackling drills. At least the 3rd guy making the tackle 20 yards downfield isn’t doing a dance and losing his helmet.
Actuallly...
Royal missed Orton…he stutter stepped a couple of times. If runs the route flat out like Marshall he catches that ball!
