Such a failure of execution in every area of performance.
This is a team that is floundering. All that leadership better step up this week to be ready for the Chargers.

What a miserable weekend for football - first the hawkeyes and now the broncos?
both teams having 2 backup QBs starts.
The funny thing is, Vandenberg for Iowa played a helluva a lot better than Chris Simms.
Simms is a f’n disaster – not to mention we paid him 3 million dollars to lose the game for us

At least now all the Simms supporters can shut it.
I’m very concerned about our 2nd half performance the last 3 weeks. Can’t put my finger on the cause. If playing San Diego for control of your division doesn’t motivate this team, nothing will. Go Eagles. Beat the damn Chargers.

Questioned answered
I guess that answers the QB question. The only controversy is who should be second string. Our D was exposed, especially the run defense. And the “Kerse” continues.

Yeah, that's the only positive
Maybe the Simms supporters will shut up now. It’s not preseason any more

It's hard to guage...
because our second half offense was inept, with the exception of Moreno who played his best game of the season, and our first half offense scored very quickly. It sucks because the Skins are a bad team that played like it mattered whereas we—at least in my opinion—thought it would be a walk in the park. All lessons learned…let’s regroup and get ready for SD.

Chris Simms really is a poor man's Jay Cutler
He has a big arm and can’t complete a pass to his own team. Everyone pray to God Kyle Orton plays next week, but I have a feeling the Broncos are having a mental breakdown. Everyone is saying they are collapsing like last year, and the pressure will just continue to build.
Too many three and outs

Ouch...
This one stings. Oh well, big game next week. ToP in the second half killed us. I would have liked to see more running plays.
Hey guys!
I missed the game…what happened?
Orton played really well in the first half and was injured on the last play of the first half.
Simms came in and was terrible. Our special teams gave up a fake punt for a TD and the defense wore down in the second half because our offense couldn’t stay on the field. Terrible loss.

embarrassing
everything that the experts said is wrong with this team has begun to come true in the last three games. the defense has been overmatched, especially today against one of the worst offenses in the NFL. chris simms could barely start for my maryland terrapins at QB, and the terps are now 2-8. i just can’t believe how stupid we have looked over the past three weeks.
Robinson > Simms
Dude I am a UMD grad and I will take Robinson any day of the week over Simms. That was dreadful
by tyardrich on Nov 15, 2009 2:37 PM MST via mobile up reply actions
Some observations
1.) The d-line got pushed backwards the entire second half, which against the Redskins offensive line is very worrying
2) Chris Simms is better than the game he had, it was his first regular season action since 2006, but the throw for Brandon Marshall wasn’t just rust, it was just outright not smart, the offense was in Skins territory, and a controlled run-first drive puts us in front and takes the Skins ability to rely on the run away…really dumb.
3) We really struggle as a team defending against third receivers, I know Ty Law is playing there now, but I’m starting to be really disappointed in Alphonso Smith, for what we gave up to get him he should be good enough to play nickel, and as a small corner I would imagine that should be his specialty…
4) Russ Hochstein looked much better than Ben Hamilton, some nice play by the offensive line, and Knowshon had as good a game as he has had, I think once we get the running system fully installed, and he gets some good coaching, he will be a force.
5) The team needs a lift from someone, the early season momentum has unquestionably worn off, perhaps B-Dawk’s cheerleading isn’t having the same effect once heard over and over again.
Good points
And particularly about Simms – my biggest fear about him when he went in wasn’t just that he hasn’t played in so long and would be rusty, or that he’s probably less well versed in this offense than Orton is.
The kid can play, but his biggest problem has always been that when in doubt, he’ll put wild passes up for grabs as though he’s just hoping the right guy will catch it. The INT in the end zone killed a drive that was off to a good start. I couldn’t see the whole field but it is hard to believe that making that bonehead pass was his only option.

There are definately defensive issues
Not sure what they are but they are worn out by second half now. Cincy was in Rothlisberger’s face all day today and I only recall one time the Broncos really got to him last week. This one hurt and I think Bronco fans now have the right to be both skeptical and panicky. Nice 16 yard punt by…well why pile on.

according to many "spectators" last week, a deep ball constitutes as a game plan.
It was fine for a while. The broncos were moving it well in the first half. If you don’t have the Buckhalter fumble, we are looking at, at least, three, maybe seven more points in the first half. The game should have been more like 24 – 7 or 20 – 7 if you don’t have the buck fumble or the stupid ST TD.

Wild overthrow?
If he isn’t held he gets that ball in stride. Also, it looks like he slowed a bit and mistimed his leap.
Orton could have laid it up more, given how open Royal was, but he couldn’t anticipate the hold.
Don’t worry. I am blaming McDaniels and his staff. They lost this game with some unparrelled stupidity.

The Defense is getting worn down
Because we can’t control the ball worth a damn in the second half. The one drive that was looking decent was ended when chris simms tried to be a hero and threw it up to Deangelo.
Well, one thing I say is if the defense is getting worn down, they need to get off the field
Force a 3 and out, if the team across the field is forcing 3 and outs, the defense needs to step up and match that.

From what I saw of Simms in training camp, he had a hard time getting the ball out of his hand and being accurate, both were seen today. For someone who has been in this offense since McDaniels arrived, Simms should of perfromed better, but looks like he has not progressed.

Blow out losses, bad losses to bad teams, injuries to some key guys, terrible coaching mistakes and soft run D.
How is this not like 2008?

Well, we don't have a turnover prone QB, Shanny isn't our coach, and our defense

Do you know why we lost this game McGeorge? It was because Orton was injured.

I agree with McG...
Buck stops at the HC. He was devoid of ideas when Simms was on the field, stopped running the ball……and him and Preifer must have been the only people in the continental US that culd not see the FG fake coming….seriously.
McD will be one of the greats, but he did a poor job today in the 2nd half…….it was like he decided that Simms was going in just after the start of 3rd quarter and had no game plan for it.
I am sorely disappointed. I had hope he had learned from the last 2 weeks but not so much.
Nolan struggled to bring pressure as well and we could not stop run.
I totally agree with McG…..

I think that the plays were there, but Simms just didn't execute them.
On that deep interception, he didn’t have to go to Marshall in triple coverage. He could have just as easily ran toward the sidelines or threw it away or get it to a more open receiver.
He missed on a couple throws and made poor decisions and held the ball too long, on a few occasions. I think that McD’s hands were tied at that point, after Simms had given up that INT. There weren’t many playcalls he could have made to make Simms look any better. Simms just had to make better decisions with the plays that were called.

Let Brandstater play if Orton can’t go. He can do a better job than Simms. I think that his career is over.
This team is showing true colors
I have been defending this team all year. But I am at a point where I have to look back and really think about our wins. We beat Cincy with a fluke pass. We caught Dallas with both running backs hurt. We played Patriots when Brady was still not playing to his ability. We beat Raiders Browns which does not impress me. We now play teams when it counts and when they are playing a higher level than at the start of the year. Seems there is more to us than what the stats show. We beat teams early when they were not healthy or playing well yet. We now are shown what happens when we play teams that have had a few game s under their belt. There is no reason of the lack of production in the 2 games prior. Please do not tel me it’s because we played 2 great defenses. HMMMM Cincy just beat the Steelers who beat us. In the NFL you have to beat teams with grate defenses. You are not going to always play weak teams. Denver is still 1-2 years away of being sound.
Come on!
I’m as frustrated as anyone, but it’s the NFL. Literally (as we saw today) anyone can win on any given week.

The drive by the Skins after the Simms int was really troubling
Just another guy...on the lost highway.
Please folks do not suggest we play Brandstater
You can’t have him start going into the game we still have to play. Simms needs to get reps with the 1st string. The rookie is not going to come in against Philly Chargers Giants and have a chance. Yes Simms looked terrible but at this point he is still far better option than a rookie.
I will suggest it

True, but I would say this
Simms likely is not going to give you much of anything, if Bradstater is the future, then have him get his shot and let him learn, plenty of rookie QB’s have done well.

Nooo! You are totally wrong!
All you have to do is keep switching out Quarterbacks and eventually you will stumble across a guy who will magically make your defense and special teams play better, and your offensive line play more consistently.
So next week we play Brandstater and if that doesn’t work, we sign Jeff Garcia. If that doesn’t work we bring back Elway. When he breaks his hip we call Jake Plummer. Since he doesn’t have cell service in Smallville we call Bubby Brister and see what he’s up to. I am sure sooner or later we’ll trip over someone. LOL

I completely disagree
Simms showed us nothing good today to indicate he can play any better. He also looked bad in the preseason. Brandstater completely outplayed him in the preseason. When Brandstater was in the game was not to big for him and he had really good poise. Poise is something Simms does not have. Simms is not the answer next week. My vote is for Brandstater
by gnarlybroncodude on Nov 15, 2009 2:37 PM MST up reply actions
My issue with Simms
Is decision making. Why oh why does he try throwing that deep ball to Marshall in the endzone? Terrible decision right after a great run by Moreno. And he made that decision on 1st down. That doesn’t get fixed by reps with the first team.
by Broncoholic_07 on Nov 15, 2009 2:38 PM MST up reply actions
Well
Thats the difference between Orton and Simms. I don’t think Orton throws that ball. Maybe we win the game because of it

Wild passes
Cutler tries to throw foolish passes into coverage and gets picked off. But Simms has a history of just putting it up there. You look at the play and say ‘What the blue hell was he thinking? That wasn’t even close!’
But, I guess at least he shaves regularly and is a nice guy. That’s a plus. LOL

DEFENSE
I think we should worry about the defense stopping people as much as making a Q.B. change. Seems teams have found a weakness. We need the defense to step up if Orton is not playing. They need to get back to playing mistake free football and getting turnovers.
Or when their kicker is kicking it off out of bounds and giving us the ball

ended in Buckhalter fumbling the ball…we were driving down the field too.

I'm saying that if simms wasn't in during the 2nd half, we would've scored on that drive.

Yea i totally agree that was a horrible decision by Simms
Those are the mistakes that are keeping points off the board and keeping our defense on the field all game. The defense never has the luxury of playing with more then a one score lead. Forcing the other team to become 1 dimensional.

that BS forward progress call on the Davis fumble/sack was the moment this game turned. If we get that, momentum would’ve carried us through

Orton looks like he can throw the ball more that 15-yards in the air. Which, if you listen regularly to Denver sports radio, you’d be SHOCKED by that!

Fake FG/Punt thingy
I’m not going to go back through the second quarter thread to see what people said about it, but how in the crap can that fake punt work, especially after the timeout? Was the timeout not called to figure out how to stop it? Did the Redskins not show exactly what they were going to do, leading to the Broncos timeout? Was it not the fullback who caught a thirty yard bomb from the punter? Was that not the longest completion the Redskins had all day?
here's the kicker
THE REDSKINS CALLED THE TIMEOUT
and yes, the skins showed what they were doing before the TO.

We got punked on that play bad. And it took so long to set up, I thought for sure it wasn’t going to work.
But that play really sort of was this game in a nutshell. Denver got outplayed by a team that was hungry to win and executed better on both sides of the ball.

Blown Coverage on the fake fg
We had a lineman trying to cover the receiver. The CB should have covered him and let the lineman cover the weakside instead. The CB waived the lineman to cover and kept in on the play. There was no way a slow, big lineman could cover the smaller, fast receiver.
It was Marcus Thomas, but honestly A. Smith blew the coverage, that was his responsibility as the dep safety

I could not see the numbers. Thanks. So it was A. Smith at the line who motioned Marcus Thomas to cover the receiver? Bad call dude!
I really disagree with the people bashing the D
Go look at the TOP and that explains it all. The D was on the field for way to long today. They are going to get tired and break down when the offense cannot do anything in the 2nd half. Today the offense and bad play calling lost us this game, not the defense. TOP 35 min redskins 24 minutes broncos. The D really misses Mcbean and Le Kevin Smith played bad but as a whole this was not on the D at all
by gnarlybroncodude on Nov 15, 2009 2:47 PM MST reply actions
a good part of the reason
the D was on the field so long is because they failed to stop the epic third and fourth quarter drives where skins walked down the field in 6 and seven minutes. Before that TOP was even before those two drives.
I’m not buying the TOP argument. The D played poorly, and mostly in run defense.

The defense on the drive after the Simms INT was porous to every kind of play they called.
It was hard to watch. It was so obviously a very critical time in the game…
Just another guy...on the lost highway.
Good points...
If your O is constantly three and out and your D is on the field the whole game they’re going to get into trouble fast. But I really didn’t care for the effort I saw out of the defense as a whole today. There were some moments but overall I saw a lot of failed execution and lazy tackling.
A lot of it you can call fatigue but I think that there was a lack of individual effort out there today. Just my opinion.

I understand the TOP, but bottom line is that the Defense needs to stop WA
and get the ball back, look at the Cinncy game, basically the offense played like crap most of the game and the defense kept them in it by forceing Cinncy (a much better offensive team) to punt most of the day. We controlled the TOP in the 1st half against the Steelers, yet the defense started giving up sustained drives in the 2nd half, but the Steeler defense didn’t get wore down.

My thoughts are that this wasnt a terrible loss.
The first half we played very well IMO and we only allowed points(you cant count that fake punt TD) Our offense seemed to be going with SUPER EASE and we could of got 7 more without that fumble by buck.Great dee in 3rd quarter and our dee played pretty bad in the 4th considering we had like -7 passing yards in the 2nd half.
I think anytime you lose to a two-win team...

My random thoughts
This team is now no different in my mind than last years team. Blowing a big lead in the standings. Losing to poor teams. Poor tackling. Getting run over on the ground for three games in a row. Getting scored on with a ridiculous “fake” kick which was shown before a timeout.
Is everyone done with the Simms garbage now? 3/13 yards 1 INT and 3 sacks vs. Orton 11/18, 193 yards 2 TD. And it’s not like Simms had the disadvantage of having to make a comeback, we were protecting a lead after the half. Also I don’t want to hear about throwing downfield anymore.
Berger still sucks.
I’m getting tired of having to say this, but we got hosed by the officiating again. Not as bad as the Pittsburgh game, but the Stokely “bobble” was actually a catch (though no big deal, doesn’t change much) then immediately after that play we have the no call on running into Berger. The guy literally ran into the kicker, that is the definition of that penalty. Then on the ensuing drive, Campbell’s “forward progress is stopped” on a sack and fumble where he was still moving forward. How can forward progress be stopped when he is still moving forward? They even replayed it and no whistle blew until after the play. The official should have just said “the ruling on the field is that Denver cannot challenge the last play”.
One final thought: STOP FUMBLING THE FREAKIN BALL.

We aren’t defending passes at all. We were leading the league through our first six games in PD. We had two today, two vs. Pitt, three vs. Baltimore. We were averaging 5.67 per game before the Baltimore game. This is also another thing that reminds me of last years team.
