Solution to the Punting and Hillis Playing time problems... (Tongue in Cheek)
It's quite an understatement to say that Mitch Berger hasn't really lived up to the expectations of us here at MileHighReport. His punting has been erratic and underwhelming (Remember that 16 yard punt from the game on Sunday). The wind up is molasses slow and it's a miracle that a punt hasn't been blocked yet.
Hillis has been virtually gone the season and the fans are clamoring more Cowbell. We all miss his hard nosed style of running and general awesomeness.
Here's my proposed solution.
Make Peyton Hillis the punter and give Berger the boot (Pun intended). Peyton Hillis is so powerful his sweat is actually made of nitroglycerin. He would have no problem booting that ball 90 yards or 20. He would be the utimate coffin kicker not only because he'd always kick it out of bounds at the opponent's 1 yard line, but he would actually end the life of the ball he's kicking.
I think this could actually work!

The Broncos pregame last week
kept talking about using Hillis in a RB or FB spot against a Redskins team that is terrible against the run, this I believe could have been a winning solution for the team. However I’m not sure about the truth of this but Gary Miller of CBS4 did say prior to kickoff that Hillis was inactive for the game…? We need to run the Hochstein in as a tight end formation against SD and just pound the ball down their throats all game long. Take the pressure off the QB and let them relax.
We did have Hillis inactive.
I agree with you. Especially if Orton can’t go. We are going to have to run the ball and that kind of a formation would definitely get the job done.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

My bad. This should have just been posted once.

I don't know why McDaniels would be so bull headed in not using Hillis in critical situations.
We all saw what he brought last year and it was a factor in winning 2 or 3 of the games we won.
I'm starting to wonder
not about McDaniels, nor even Hillis per se, but more about Hillis’ general situation.
As I understand it he missed practice last week & was inactive for the Was game due to the death of a family member (I think it was a grandparent).
Please realize, that what follows is purely speculation, based on grief-counseling training I’ve had & used with family and friends.
If Hillis missed practice and a game due the death of a family member, and
If he was particularly close to that family member, and
if this was the result of a lingering illness or condition (say from time prior to the start of the season),
it becomes very understandable why Hillis’ head has not been fully in the game (i.e. some mental errors that occurred early on), and why McDaniels has not been pushing to get him into the game. Dealing with grief can play head games and be a major distraction.
I’m claiming to be “in the know” or assert that that is in fact what’s happened. But it does make a certain amount of sense, given the absence of Hillis sightings in recent weeks.

Yeah, but that's not an excuse for his mental lapses earlier in the season.
It certainly could contribute to being deactivated the last two weeks, though.
I’m with you, though, BShrout. It definitely could be effecting him at practice. I just wish him my best and keep him in my prayers because it is a difficult time.

true
yet if, it was a severe illness, that the family knew would be terminal as early as say August, it could very well have affected his focus during the latter part of training camp, the preseason and the early games — if he was put in the position of waiting for that terrible phone call.
I agree with you about wishing him the best and keeping him in my prayers.
And btw, CC, my apologies for inserting a serious note in your very delightful tongue-in-cheek post.

Great point.
I didn’t think of it that way before, but that definitely makes sense. I know that when my grandfather had cancer and we all knew that it was just a matter of time, it really took a toll. That is understandable that Hillis’ mind would be elsewhere.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

me too
and I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him punt. LOL

"general awesomeness"
Agreed and well put! If Prater’s leg stars going south in the second half of the season again, Hillis can be used to bring back the ‘drop kick’ (he would have no use for a holder, thereby freeing up another roster spot) as well….That guy eats lightening and poops AWSOMENESS!
I think we could have done better in the 2nd half of the Redskins game using Hillis as part of a Wild Horses package than having Simms touch the ball. Maybe we should fix special teams by having Hillis be the player coach. He could be special teams— just literally him out on the field, and the ballcarrier would tackle himself and apologize to Hillis for having the audacity to try to gain yards against the Broncos.
