But Woody Paige is just ridiculous, and I can’t hold back. This site covers the Broncos 10 times better than the Denver Post, at a miniscule fraction of the cost. We are not some kids in a basement in Arizona, obviously. At the staff level, we’re all professionals at something else, who happen to do a better job than the professional writers.

Woody ought to be happy that he can still get paid to write his self-serving drivel, that advertisers haven’t figured out that consumer demand has shifted. The day where the marketplace of ideas values a person like him is coming to an end, and I am proud to be a part of the movement that is leading the way toward that day. Woody’s descent into bitter old manhood is in progress, and it will be a nasty fall when it has completed.

He and Gil Whiteley will soon look back on a time when their bile-filled ramblings mattered, and wonder what happened.

I’ve broken down his tape on more than one occasion. Although he doesn’t have the repertoire of moves that he will in another year or two, if you’ve watched his juke move and edge rush, he is solid. He’s been very close to 5 sacks and also has hurried the QB numerous times.

I guess Woody defines “making a play” differently than we all do.

Did anyone else read the comments from denver “fans” after his write up? My goodness. I didnt realize that there was such an uprising. Why does woody and all these fair weather fans hate this team so much?

I give up on Woody, the best line in Tracks today is Clayton calling himself an idiot. Thats priceless!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m convinced he doesn’t believe what he’s writing. Chumming up the waters for negative fan guy is the only tool he has left in the bag (or ever had). It’s sad on a couple levels. For one, it’s embarrassing to read a grown man behaving in this manner. For another, it’s a depressing glimpse into the state of the fifth estate— it’s not only sportswriters behaving this way.

Any HS-level editor would have rejected or changed it on that basis alone. If someone wants to put on airs as a ‘real professional’ I’d expect their attack on another writer to reflect that in language, usage and composition. In point of fact, where a person does or does no live has nothing at all to do with their expertise or the quality of their writing. ‘Strawman’ indeed. Ad hominem attack? Absolutely. Debate a rational point or leave off, please – no one really cares about what other writers you don’t like.

Kyle’s site does well. Perhaps that’s how he’ll make his living – or even does so already. The ‘Father of HS Scouting’, Tom Lemming, started his business of writing a publication of HS scouting results and selling it to whoever would pay back in the 1970’s. It was years before he made a living at it, but his expertise has become legendary. This kind of attack, by Paige, is meaningless. Following your dream is a bad thing? Starting up a website is a bad thing? Nonsense.

The fact that some of the ‘facts’ of football escaped Paige on that day also seems relevant. If your personal opinions are based in sound information or understanding they should reflect that understanding of the game. His attack on Ayers completely ignored the information that Don Martindale gave the press when he was interviewed about Ayers performance, about 2-3 weeks ago. Jason is correct regarding the special teams play of McBath and Bruton (did anyone miss that great ST tackle that Bruton made in WAS?). Smith has shown great promise and has had some issues, but that’s common in a rookie and is meaningless in and of itself. This is just bad writing. That’s not because he’s paid for it, but in spite of that fact.

so that’s his saving grace. Paige, once again, I seriously adjure you, quit writing about the Broncos and the NFL in general. It’s embarrassing for Broncos fans, your editors and most importantly, you when you keep flubbing things.
