Orton or Simms against San Diego?
The status of Kyle Orton's sprained ankle is still up in the air for the Broncos Chargers game.
Obviously, the Broncos are going to be better with Orton starting the game if he is mobile. McDaniels can put Orton into the Shotgun more than usual, but Orton still has to have some mobility to play effectively against the Chargers.
Orton's ankle injury is apparently not as bad as the one he had last year with the Bears. Orton also had originally injured the ankle against the Ravens a couple of weeks ago.
Simms did not look good against the Redskins, but all the additional practice he has had this week should help him to improve. Simms was playing well in preseason, and Simms led the Bucs into the playoffs in 2002.
If Simms cannot complete more passes then the Broncos have to bring in Brandstater.
The only way the Broncos win this game is if LT is held below 100 yards, and the pass rush improves. Rivers cannot be allowed to just sit back in the pocket and pick the secondary apart.

I would go with Simms.
There is a real risk of losing Orton for an extended time is he plays too soon. If he sits this one out, he may be OK to go against the Giants.
There are a couple of factors in addition of Simms return to competence as a passer – which I expect him to do. The running game: they need to pile up 100+ yards – more like 180-190 yds to keep Phyllis off the field. I feel pretty good about McD knowing this. I have heard from Nolan and Andra Davis that they have lost the discipline on defense that helped them win the 1st 6. Actually I saw it diminishing against the Bolts already. The return of that will help immensely. We need to win TOP like 36 min to 24 minutes.
I am going out on a limb and predicting a 28 – 17/ 20 win for Denver. For the Broncs: 2 TDs; 4 FGs and a safety. For the Bolts: 2 TDs and either 1 or 2 FG.
Go Broncos!!!
