Why was Orton in there?
I'm not here to rub anything into your faces. That game was completely unfair because Chris Simms is not very good and Kyle Orton had no business playing in the game (still though, that will gain him some locker room points).
The question I kept asking myself, was why the hell did Josh McDaniels keep throwing Orton out there? Even when the game was so far over that CBS was putting up the team's "new records", Kyle was still going out there.
If you think your season is over, put TB out there. If you think it's not, Simms should go play the garbage time. Don't risk further injury to the one QB who has had success this season. You're going to need him for the next 6 weeks, at least.
Am I missing something? Can a Broncos fan please tell me why Orton was still out there, when he could barely walk, trying to make a 20+ point comeback late in the 4th quarter?

No one will really know
I would not be surprised if Simms gets cut monday morning. Brandstater should move ahead of him on the depth chart for sure

They probably won't cut Simms right now
With Orton iffy, there still may be a need for a 3rd QB. And unless anyone else knows of a step-in QB killing time at home right now, Simms is the alternative.
But Brandstater should be definitely #2 on the depth chart an getting that kind of work.
Any chance of working on “Mustang” (wild horse) formations for Turkey Day? :-(

Beats me
We played like the raiders today. actually we played worse, since they and the chiefs both WON their games.

Agreed
I said at halftime that the best player for the Chargers in the 1st half were the refs. The Broncos made far too many silly mistakes.

You have a valid point, I thought Brandstater should of been in the 4th quarter

I have no idea. We need Orton for Thursday’s game.
McDaniels coached a brutal game today. He really needs to take a step back and refocus. His team looks totally lost.
Simms does not belong in the NFL. It’s sad to watch him play so poorly. It’s not his fault, its just that he is no longer an NFL player and it’s very clear when he drops back to pass.

You have all the answers John, why even ask?
If he wasn’t able to go he wouldn’t have went. Orton should of started the game and the outcome may have been different. Anyway congrats on the game. See ya soon…

You can’t pretend like Orton was 100%. He wasn’t. The less shots he took from the pass-rushers, the better.

orton came out and looked great for his first 3-4 real drives
(I exclude the attempted 30 second drill because orton knew he could take more risks in that time because the chargers wouldn’t have time to capitalize)
they were moving the ball fine until merriman made an almost-late, low, hit targeted directly for his injured ankle. orton played like he was thinking about the injury after that, but he actually looked excellent for the first few drives.

On that Merriman hit,
Where is that “Brady Rule” now or is that just for the man himself?

Everyone knows that the Brady rule only applies to people named Tom Brady
There might be a clause in there covering people named Manning or Favre as well.

a 70-80% Orton
is better than a 100% Simms. I think KO has enough experience battling through injuries he probably felt he could contribute without hurting himself further.
Conversation nonstarters: hoping McDaniels fails, comparing Bears to Broncos, Cutler to Orton, apples to oranges, and casual drinkers to Raiders fans.

Agree 100%
first of all….. IF MCDANIELS WAS PLANNING ON PLAYING ORTON, WHY DIDN’T HE START!???? (I had to yell this) Starting Simms was just a complete waste of 2 quarters if he had the intention of playing Orton. Obviously, Orton’s ankle isn’t going to feel any better after waiting a quarter and a half. If Orton was going to play, he should have played from the beginning.
Let’s get real here, Simms is terrible. Straight up awful and I hope his NFL career is over. Hindsight is 20/20 but we were better off signing Michael Vick than Simms. Vick would have been cheaper, he is a better QB, and Vick was only out of the NFL for 2 years while Simms was out of the NFL for 3 years.
Anyways, all is done now, this season is over. I say we put in Brandstater to get him some experience

Orton looks fine to me. But I agree that Simms does not belong on the roster and will make no positive impact for Denver this season or ever.
He should be cut and we should see about signing a real back-up. Maybe Jeff Garcia, JP Losman or some other re-tread that is clearly better than Simms.

Garcia
That would scare me. The Broncos offensive scheme isn’t too different from the one he played great in with SF and PHI.

I just don't think McDaniels though that Simms would be that bad and not get into the flow
Orton is hurt and he probably didn’t want to send him out. Once the game got out of hand, he probably should have tried Brandstater just to save Orton from further damage.

I have no idea.
I guess we will find out in the postgame interview.
This is a completly different team that started 6-0. I just have no idea why we went from really good to this…..32-3 loss. Today’s game was just like last 2007 when we were anhiliated.

I'll give it a try
If McDaniels puts Simms back in there, he might have had a riot in the stadium and a mutiny in the locker room. Brandstater probably would have gotten killed, at least Orton for the most part avoided the rush (expect for the Tom Brady penalty that wasn’t called)

I'm with you
and I said so in the game thread – I did not want to see Orton out there. We lost, but Orton was a spark that gave us a chance. He was not 100% and it would’ve been better for him not to go. Once it became clear Simms=L, McD tried to save the game and put Orton in. But when the game became unsalvagable, he should’ve benched Orton. Why risk losing the only QB who could give you Wins this year?
