Missing piece, starting QB
When healthy, Kyle Orton is an excellent backup QB. His main problem, is that he does not look down field. Yes the scheme is to thrown under coverage but it is also to take the 20+ when presented.
Chris Simms? He seems totally lost. He is not an NFL QB at this time.
Tom Brandstater may be the best option until KYle is healthy. IMO find out if another draft choice is spent on a QB.

C'mon Joe, Orton could be Elway and there would still be somewho wanted him gone. My Brother-in-law hated Elway uptilthe day he retired, even after the two SB trophies.
Our new DOOMesday Defense!!!! YOU LIKE??????????????
That's the truth
bunch of haters in Denver. I never got the respect I deserved.

No, see, the problem is...
you got way more respect than you deserved…
Because Montana has no professional sports, I gotta support the land of my birth.
Socrates was once executed for 'trolling'.
^Needs explaining: don't call someone asking uncomfortable, slightly antagonistic questions trolls. In all odds they probably just want to learn. It's real easy to differentiate a 'Socratic' post from a trolling one (unless you're a resident of WCG).
^Needs further explaining: I have yet to post anything on WCG, don't worry, I'm not trying to rationalize anything I've done. I've just lurked over there and man, they are the model of post-peloponnesian war Athens.
Sigh
This is our team, let's have fun with it! - dmitchell624
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
Harris
I think the missing piece has been Harris, the pressure that has been killing us for weeks has been coming from the right, because we aren’t the only ones who know Polumbus is almost decent on his best days. The pressure I’m talking about leads to 3 and outs and a tired defense, which lead to bigger point differentials, and we know we don’t have a quick scoring offense to make up the difference.
I am hopeful that IF Orton can heal we will see the same team we did for the beginning of the season ONCE Harris’ toe heals up (how much longer can that take anyway?).
You’ll hear no argument from me about Simms though, he just doesn’t seem to have any rhythm at all, but then again neither did Orton in the preseason, so maybe he would with enough reps (too late for that though).
If Orton is unable to play again this season I would rather see the rookie out there than see Simms again.

A QB won't fix the problem
Sure it might help but not when we give up 32 points a game. Our D did not do it’s job like it has been during the beginning of the season and when our running backs are fumbling the ball once or twice a game it doesn’t help the team no matter who the QB is. We have way more important problems to fix on D and special teams (and O-line) before another QB.
I'm thinking that the Offense's ability to stay on the field has had a significant impact on the D
I agree that QB shouldn’t be the top priority, but I do think O-line depth could make a huge difference as the season wears on. I wouldn’t complain about any upgrades to the front three on the D though.

Absolutely
OL and DL should be the priorities right now. Drafting a quarterback before that is just shooting for a long spell at 8-8.
i would agree with your assessment of simms, but disagree on the other two.
when orton is healthy and the line does their job protecting him, he is more than capable of being a Starting NFL QB. he does a fine job and everyone should stop hating. if the RBs could not fumble, it would be really change everyone’s perception of orton’s ability to run the offense. he has had a number of very good looking drives derailed by RB fumbles recently (moreno today, buckhalter in WAS, etc.). Our offense would look a whole lot more sucessful if those points were on the board and not lost to turnovers. Turnovers, which Kyle commits very few of, btw.
also, it is important to remember that Brandstater is a long-term project. He is not meant to see the field at all this year — and probably not next year either. Tom B is not the answer.
Simms needs to be cut, and McD needs to look for a servicable veteran backup to Orton. (I like Jeff Garcia, but i’m sure there are other options out there)

Its funny...
…because if I came out with a silver lining the last two weeks, its that Orton proved he’s not only good, but his team responds to him. I think all of you that like to blame it all on his ‘limitations’ better settle in for years of dissatisfaction with the QB situation. I don’t see Orton going anywhere for quite some time.

exactly If you are evaluating this team you are not looking at starting QB as a problem area
When the main problem you have with your QB situation is giving him time to throw and keeping the offense balanced with runs then you are in excellent shape at that position
The Ravens did it
To this team, every team that plays the Broncos now watches game film from the Ravens and Steelers and McD’s offensive scheme has been exposed and we are seeing the effects. It works for the Pats because they have a QB that can go deep anytime and usually does which means the safties have to stay back and respect the possiblity of the deep pass, the Broncos have the recievers to do the same thing but unfortunaltely they don’t have the QB. I keep hearing about how Orton did it against the Redskins, yeah, they did it against the skins but it was only because the skins played up and after getting beat deep they sent a blitz every play and we all know how good Orton is under pressure, and now Simms is stinking it up, I just hope this team can finish 9-7 but I have my doubts.
That's what I've been saying since that B-More game
We got exposed, and every game since then has felt like the same thing (with the exception of the 1st qtr against the Skins, but we actually got the ball down the field in that qtr.). Not going to be able to exploit that weak Giants secondary without getting the ball down the field, and acn’t do that if we can’t run.

Orton
won’t be McDaniels’s long term quarterback. McDaniels’s will draft a qb in the 1st or 2nd round next year (the pick we get from the Bear’s is looking sweet to take a highly rated qb in the 1st round) because he knows Orton has to many limitations to run his entire playbook effectively. McDaniels’s knows if he is going to succeed in Denver he has to get a stud quarterback and there won’t be a better time than next April to get one with the Bear’s 1st rounder.
