Why are we freaking out guys?
Ok, I'm generally just a reader, but i decided to create an account simply to get something off my chest, and its not a rant about how disappointed or ticked off i am. This is quite the opposite actually. Yes, im just as heartbroken by the losses as all of you. If you need proof just ask my girlfriend. I curse and yell non sensical profanities all game long, and then the anger quickly turns to depression (i know, its sad. Get a life right?) but i am very upset by the way you guys are freaking out! Yes i think we can play better, and yes its disappointing, but lets be rational and keep things in perspectinve.
This team is a work in progress, but one that can garner success along the way. Thats pretty awesome, and we're a bit lucky as fans considering all the other teams that are a "work in progress". We're the type of team that is good and competitive (despite the deceptive and misleading scores of the last 4 games), but lacks the depth and talent to win games when we make too many mistakes. I know, i know. They should never fumble, never throw an int, never commit a costly penalty, and certainly never lose a ball game. But this is the NFL my friends, and that stuff happens to the best of teams. The defense is paid too. The difference is, the elite teams are strong enough to battle back despite the mistakes. Thats what makes them elite, and frankly we're not there yet. I do however believe that we will be within a year or two. We're certainly heading in the right direction anyway, and we've got a lot of cap room, draft picks, and talent on our team to work with. My guess is that next year we are not only a playoff contender, but also a force to be reckoned with come december. So we lost a few games. BIG DEAL!!!
McDaniels has repeatedly said that we weren't rebuilding. We're trying to win now, and he believed that we could. And though we've had a bit of slide, i still don't think its a stretch to say we're a solid team when we play cohesively as a team. However, we have to play pretty close to mistake free, and we haven't even come close to that this season, let alone the last four games. I think that McDanies has done an excellent job as HC so far, but he too can improve. My biggest issues with him have been quick, and not so good challenges throughout the season. We have guys in the booth with tv feeds, and rewind for a reason. My biggest problem this season was leaving Orton in during crap time on sunday. IMO, he should've been pulled when it was 20-3, and seemingly out of reach. What a great time to let Simms try to regain some confidence, or let Brandstater get his feet wet. (though im more opposed to the latter) Either way, i think it was absolutely ridiculous to leave Orton, who was deemed unready to start due to injury, and who is a vital part of our offense, in the game during junk time, further increasing his chance of worsening his already injured ankle. I find it hard to understand what he was thinking by doing that, and i dont think its excusable but I still have faith in him as a coach, and i think he will be here a long time, perhaps even longer than shanny, and bring this organization great sucess.
Bottom line, there's a lot to look forward to as a Denver Broncos fan, and i for one am ecstatic about the future (that includes the remainder of this season, which many of you have already deemed "over"). We will bounce back, and we will play better. Whether or not that translates into a W remains to be seen, but thats what makes this game so amazing.
In closing, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your work, and time spent on this site. Not just Guru and the gang, but also all of you who post here on a regular basis. I am on this site every single day, without fail, and its a godsend for those who bleed orange and blue, or on occasion brown and yellow.... =) So Thank You MHR!

I have to agree
With brianbronco, I see your point but put the last 4 games in perspective and it’s easy to see why everyone is upset. First off the only game we’ve been competetive in during the losing streak was against a team with 2 wins and the other 3 games weren’t even close, all blow outs and if that isn’t enough how about this, in 3 of the 4 games the Broncos were out scored 80-20, and only 13 of the 20 points were scored on offense, and then you are asking why fans are freaking out? The play calling is horrible and I blame the coach because this team is not the Patriots and Orton is not Brady so he has to come up with a scheme that fits this team, and the D has improved but they are wore down because most of the wins this season have come on the back of the defense, if the offense can’t sustain drives then the D is eventually going to break down and thats exactly what we are seeing, so don’t ask why, just watch and see for yourself.
Are you really surprised?
A gift win to start the season followed by five close games, one of those went to over time. Now everyone is acting like this team should be 10-0. Gimme a break.
Everyone stop and take a breath, recall what you were thinking during pre-season and put a little perspective on things.
Sure , I want to see them win all the time, but I reasonably expect to see some bad games, assignments missed, and coaching/play calling that seems to make no sense. You really think McD believes this team will run as well as NE? He has to try things to find out what will work, how far along the team has come in understanding the system.
Give them some time
Thanks for listening/reading :)
Opinions are like......, Well anyway, this is mine.
This.
As a side note, all the talk of Nolan bolting for a head coaching gig has really died down, so that’s good.
That rug really tied the room together...

Amen
With a better draft class coming up in 2010, we’ll have some chances to upgrade our defense.

Well...... welcome, Boncosfan 2112
In terms of reputedly old Chinese curses, you picked an interesting time to join in and speak up.
If you have been lurking a while, you will recognize two of the above responders as having been fairly negative in their past interactions. They are allowed their view, I just didn’t want you to feel too put down by the tone of their responses. .
By the way, I too am calling out brianbronco 24, for the “retarded” comment….. never in good taste, never classy, and seems to indicate a rather youthful, shall we say, level of interaction. My son gave up that phrase when he turned 19, without my having to say a single word to him about it.
I agree with you, all is not lost, and I agree with sean about why. I disagree with brian about wanting the season to end……still way too many “interesting” things to happen. Even if we totally tank it, I suppose I can at least observe the progress of the younger talent, the decision-making processes of the coaches/staff, and the ranting of the fans. But, in reference to the last, I like to watch disaster movies too.
Name calling shouldn't be a part of this site and I agree with you idahobronc, it's uncalled for.
If you don’t like the post or the poster then don’t respond to it.

Some people....
I can’t believe some ____s flipped out over this post. So he wants to be optimistic! Go to the Denver Post forums with that kind of talk man, your negativity isn’t necessary here. If I wanted to see people get called retards for liking their team, I’d read charger fans comments on DP. So things aren’t perfect. We’re still going to be better than .500 this year, which is still a heckuva lot better than most of us thought going into the season. Coincidence that the last two games we’ve lost, we’ve relied on our backup(and should never play again) QB Simms to either lose the game or put us in a hole? If Orton’s healthy, Redskins lose and the Charger game is an actual game. There’s still six weeks left. If people want the season to end, Basketball season is here! Go rout for the Nuggets, they’re doing well. The blogger is brand new to the site, way to welcome him in with your negative tirade and insults.
GO BRONCOS!

+ Too many to count and rec'd
The nerve – people must be coming over from the Denver Post blogs…. “Wait, you’re not dissing (our) team since they didn’t win, that’s it, you suck, the Broncos suck, everything sucks” kinda attitude or something?
The old cliche, it takes all kinds…. Comes to mind
First team to three consecutive SB wins!!!! and then some, right? I think four and someone else oughtta have a 'fair' shot : )

We need that intense fist pump back...

I want to see that after finishing my turkey day meal!
No but seriously – I think we all completely understand the frustration and question some calls, coaching or players, but again with big picture thinking, we’re 6-4. Pittsburgh I believe has the same record, Baltimore is 5-5 and so on and so on. I’m sure those already established teams made some mistakes, bad coaching calls, and players did not execute as well as their oppenents did. For a brand new Broncos team from top to bottom, we’re currently in there with the rest of them. Although we’ve been sliding, the overall picture is that we’re heading in the right direction. Oh and Dawkins was hurt… forgot to mention that…
Hang in there folks – we’ll be just fine…

I never raised a concern, but...
although that scene made me happy for McD and for our team, I was somewhat concerned. It seemed as though beating his old boss was his own personal Superbowl. My gut told me that he needed to be reminded that there were still 11 games left in the season and he had better regain focus.

Rec'ing your post out of the spite of those negative bleeps!
That’s some nerve to flame this post for being positive!
Not all of us are freaking out though – I’m still SUPER EXCITED about the season – and we still don’t know how kick-a$$ it’s going to end up (or not so much, possibly, I’ll give the negative possibility it’s due chance)!!! I’m still pulling for 12-4, until we ain’t! Good post!

The Broncos Fan base
seems more divided than the Broncos team if you ask me. Step up and support your team instead of quickly saying that they are going to fall apart because they lost some games.
Embrace the other side, become the animal.
Don't talk down other fans that are trying to be positive
is more what I am trying to say there. you don’t have to agree, but you don’t need to put someone down who is looking on the better side of the situation
Embrace the other side, become the animal.
We are in agreement here.
The purpose of this site is to share opinions, and opinions are going to vary. BUT, the stated mission of the site is essentially to provide a location where the opinion is given in a constructive and classy manner. This is not a site where flinging poo is going to be accepted as just part of the process. Perhaps politicians should have a site like this, eh?
Although...
namecalling is unnecessary, and the term “retarded” is completely inappropriate in any situation these days, fans should be able to speak their minds on this site. And then others can disagree. The recent happenings in the last four games is extremely disappointing, and I hope is not a trend. I’d hate to spoil a 6-0 start. I am conerned, and disappointed at some things. That doesn’t make me a bad fan…just a fan who loves and cares about his team. Just like admonishing my child when he does something he shouldn’t doesn’t make me a bad father.
AGREE, BJ
Fans do not have to all espouse only upbeat opinions. Your post is a good template for making the point. It sounds like we both are disappointed by the last few games (for me, overall offense, defense in the last quarter of 2, team play in the last half of one, and one that is still hurting). Fearful of what will come next, yes. Hopeful that we can turn it around, definitely.
To me, and this is only my opinion, the only “bad fan” is one that is consciously or unconsciously wishing ill for his team so that he can win a bet, a fantasy game, an arguement, etc. Disappointment is part of fanhood.
Like the dude (not naming names)
Who was hoping Kyle would get hurt ‘just a little’ so Simms could play…. And he got his wish the very next game… Why I oughtta…
It is very sad to see said ‘bad fans’ and one must realize they will be present at all times, therefore prepare for it and try to help some understand/be objective, others to just ignore, and yet others to learn from. That’s the hardest time I have, is remembering that even though I disagree with someone, they may have a completely valid point, and if not, I and everyone else can always (or almost always) learn something from him/her/them.

funny
brianbronco….
Really not sure what to make of you. You post a well thought comment and less than two hours later post a short and sarcastic comment. Not that you aren’t allowed but…. patience man.
I was the first to jump on you today and have put a couple of posts on here just trying to mediate what context you use. You obviously love the broncos, are passionate and inteligent. I would love to hear more but I think what most people here want to hear is insight? I don’t really know how to say it. Intelligent thought, not just negative for the sake of being negative. I don’t think MHR is a place to just vent. I am ( I am pretty new myself) getting the idea that the Denver Post blog is the place to flame away while MHR is more thoughtful.
You don’t have to drink the kool-aid, but you should respect the fact that many here do.

Holy cow...
I missed the fireworks. 2112, I just wanted to offer what I feel is a somewhat valid reason for my own version of ‘freaking out.’
I can deal with the losses, no matter how painful and what bad memories they bring up. We’ve all been spoiled that, for us over the past 14 years, “rebuilding” years have always included at least the possibility of the playoffs late into the season. We have also been spoiled to watch the GOAT at QB for so long, which I believe is why we still treat QBs the way we do.
That said, the only reason I feel even close to freaking out is that, in my eyes, it looked like this team quit. Kyle was out there battling, staying in even after Merriman took a cheap shot at the injured ankle. I’m sure other guys were still staying after it, and Kyle was just the only one I took note of. However, especially on the other side of the ball, I saw more guys just giving up. Not even trying to make a tackle, track down a ball carrier, etc. Mistakes I can live with. Quitting on plays and giving up on teammates…those things will make me freak out every time. Especially because I was so excited at Coach McD’s philosophy of bringing in quality, “football guys.”
That said, I hope it was just one of those rough days from which the team will learn. More importantly, as another fairly new guy around here, welcome, and thanks for the enthusiasm for our beloved Broncs!
Feelin' good
about the way we played last night and about the remaining schedule. Denver will be in the playoffs!
