Feel sorry for them Steelers
One of the best teams in football goes from 3-0 to 3-3 and then has a bye week to think about it. After the bye week they have a home game. I don't seriously think any team in the NFL would have done well Sunday in Baltimore. The very capable Ravins had something to prove to the world of football, to their fans, but most importantly to themselves - they are a good football team.
If this were simply a loss, the Broncos could just shake it off and continue on their winning ways and hope for a rematch in the playoffs - at altitude of course. But week 8 was the week when finally the media jumped on the bandwagon and started paying respect to the Broncos for the very impressive 6-0 record they had earned. Then pooof! In sixty minutes of football that respect was gone.
Ravens Expose Broncos as Pretenders
Such reads the headline on Fanhouse.com in a column written by Kevin Blackistone. His summary:
But this final tally (30-7) didn't lie. It was just the record each team brought into this game that did.
It appears that in Mr. BlankinStoned's mind we are still somehow headed to 3-13 season - most likely being forced to give back some of those wins after review.
Well Monday night we will see how those boys in predominately Orange respond. I have a feeling Big Ben is going to become very well acquainted with Mr. Doom, and will meet Mr. Bailey and Dawkins a time or two as well. This is a very good football team that beat the World Champ SD Chargers in their house - what is one more world champ when they are visiting out house?

Huh?
Feel sorry for them Steelers
Why? Steelers are coming off a bye week, a GREAT win over a previously undefeated team, oh yeah, and a 4 game win streak. We got our best defender back from injury, and although we lost one of our other top 5 defenders to IR, I really see no reason to feel sorry.
So, the Broncos are going to play angry, eh? Hehe…I’d love to see someone play angry at James Harrison, or Troy “The Beast” Polamalu. It’s just too bad none of your receivers or RB’s will be able to meet Mr. Knockout Ryan Clark. Damn Sickle cell anemia. Rayn Mundy should be a serviceable back-up though, so don’t you worry about us none, k?
Thanks! :)

Looking forward to a great game
But your 4 game win streak and a bye will leave you right where the Broncos were on sunday coming off of a 6 game win streak and a bye – in the house of a good team that has something to prove. Hard playing on the road, hard to play a good team on the road, hard to play on the opposite coast, and very very hard to play in the house of a team that has something to prove.
I love Troy Polamalu – one of the best to play the game. I love the Steelers history and franchise – one top to bottom class act. This has all the makings of a great game – but where the Ravins found a new level of intensity that the Broncs could not match on Sunday – the Broncs will show the Steelers a new definition on Monday.

Your Broncos only got a partial look at "intensity", playing the Ravens.
The current incarnation of the Ravens is a shadow of their former AFCCG playing selves. Ravens fan bloggers tried to play it off that the loss of Bart Scott and Rex Ryan would change nothing. Well, we held the league’s best footballer to under 70 yards rushing when we played the Vikings, less than HALF of what he got when he ran against Baltimore (143 rushing yards). Your O-line may be great, but our front 7 is stellar! Look for us to make Orton’s arm beat us, if he can use it after a meeting with Lamarr Woodley. :)

Every dog has its day
The steelers were take to OT by Tenn … the lost to a pretty average Chicago team … then got beat by the upstart Bengals. They put it together to beat three pretty weak teams and then beat a good Minn team. The jury is still out on this years Steelers just as it is on the Broncos. Denvers O line is the best in the leauge … period. They will only be better after this loss. It is a fools wish that Orton should beat you with his arm ,,,, on the other end of those passes are some big time play makers. What the Ravins did was take away all of the recievers and put presure on Kyle before the recievers could open up. What you seem to forget is that we have Rick Dennison and an O line that knows a totally different scheme that it can pull out of its hat any time it wants – and a head coach that does not know the meaning of convention. Mostly, you under estimate the unmeasurables and discount the advantages playing in Denver brings to the Broncos.

Ravens lost their DC in the off season.
We, however have a first ballot HoF DC. Those losses you speak of…our opponents had the advantage of not having to game plan for #43. It really sucks that our D is that much worse without one player, but it is what it is. Our secondary is miles ahead of Baltimore’s, as is our LB corps. You think Orton was hassled and pressured by them….I almost feel sorry for poor Kyle this Monday. Our secondary has shut down better receivers than what you have. This is shaping up to be a defensive battle, I believe, with neither team “blowing out” the other.

then beat a good Minn team
Now there is an understatement. I like how you phrase your adjectives every so rightly to make our accomplishments seem minor and our downsides major. You are making it out to seem like the Steelers are some ‘joke’, when they are actually the defending champs and sitting quite comfortably at 5-2.
Both yours and our games against Cinci were flukes. You happened to be on the lucky side of the coin flip. Other than that you’ve really only beaten the Pats and the Cowboys (who I still don’t think are very good). However, I am not going to sit here and babble that your team is a fluke at 6-1 and not that good.
What you are seeming to forget is that our secondary is better than the Ravens. Ike Taylor is miles better than any DB in Baltimore. Shutting down Marshall could be a pattern you see reappear this week. And if the Ravens got to Orton…you better bet the Steelers are going to be there just as often, especially with your RT out.

Context means something
The over riding point is that the jury is out on both teams – certainly not minimizing what the Steelers have done or placing too much on what the Broncos have done.
It is a major error in thought to assume that because the Ravins secondary is not to the Steelers standards that they will automatically have better success against the Broncos recievers. Different game, different game plans, and totally different dynamics. The point of the post is not to minimize the steelers, other than to point out that they are walking into a game that is now much bigger for their opponent than it is for them – and it is being played in Denver. You know by watching the first three games and comparing that to the Steelers last two that every team plays uninspired at times, and then can turn it around and play with a singleminded passion. I am saying that if I read the Broncos personel correctly this Monday the Steelers will be facing a very inspired football team. Both teams playing to their averages this would be a close game – but I don’t expect Denver to be playing to anything close to their average.
Not to let you get away with anything. Big Ben will have his own problems to contend with. The leauges leading sack master, a Hall of Fame secondary and a D coordinator that knows how to shut down the most impressive of offenses (Dal, SD, NE, Cincy all come to mind).
Should be a great game that comes down to who wants it more – just as it did in Baltimore – in this case it will be the Broncos at altitude with rocky mountain thunder urging them on.

People who debunk the Steelers attitude heading into any game generally have never heard/read Mike Tomlin speak.
The Steelers will want this game just as much as you do. We are in a very heated race for our division, whereas you have a two game lead and the tiebreaker. To think the Broncos want this game more than the Steelers is also a major error in thought.

We have Brian Dawkins. To think the Steelers want this game more than the Broncos is also a major error in thought.

What does Brian Dawkins have anything to do with it?

You were talking about how Mike Tomlins speaks and will have the steelers wanting this game more than the broncos.
Well, if you’ve ever heard Brian Dawkins speak, you wouldn’t be so quick to discount how much the broncos will want this game.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Did he speak before the Ravens game?
Just curious…

Did Tomlin speak before the bengals or bears games? Are we really basing every team's loss off of a lack of "want to"????
That’s ridiculous and you know it. Listen, we all know that the broncos got beat last sunday. Frankly, it’s a good thing that it happened now, as opposed to later.
We came out hard in the first few games because the broncos felt disrespected by the fans, media, and the rest of the league. We beat 6 straight teams, including a tough chargers team on the road, the team of the 21st century patriots and America’s team (with help from the referees) cowboys.
The broncos have been tested and passed. They came out of their bye week and were completely flat. Was it because they got a full week off instead of spending two weeks on the ravens?? I don’t know. Did we rest on our laurels and think that we were just too good to be beat? Maybe.
I do know one thing, though. This team is not going to make the same mistake twice. McD won’t have it. Just ask Peyton Hillis. We are going to play the steelers very hard on monday. If we lose, that’s fine. It would just mean you guys have a stronger team than us right now. We’ll learn from our mistakes and beat you next time.
It definitely will not be because of a lack of “want to”. We won’t come out flat like we did last week.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

We didn’t get blown out in either game, so its not exactly the same.
But anyway, I agree with your last sentence. And I am trying to make the same exact statement about the Steelers, but I keep getting hit with “no they won’t want it as much as the broncos.” And I completely disagree for above stated reasons.

No, see you are extrapolating what I am saying to the extreme. I am saying that our team will be just as fired up as yours for this game. Also, I think it is foolish to believe that one team or the other will have more reason to win the game. It means a lot to both teams.

My bad. You're right. I just thought you were trying to say the broncos wouldn't want it as much.
I’m with you saying that it means a lot to both teams. You can’t take a week off in the NFL. Every game is important. Sorry Johnny.

I lived in Pittsburgh about 10 years ago.
Like any major city has its pluses and minuses.
Minuses: Seemed to have problems keeping young people from leaving. Had a somewhat decaying feeling. Hardly any Mexican food.
Pluses: Cool accents/lingo (unique, not same as rest of state). Wonderful bus system. More rivers than any city in the world except Venice Italy (best fireworks I’ve ever seen was reflecting off the water in Pittsburgh).

Born and raised in the burgh until highschool.
I have since moved to the DC area. I still have family there and get back a couple times a year. They are doing a fantastic job of cleaning the place up. There are some very desirable areas up there now!
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

But you've got Mitch Berger...
Pittsburgh managed to win a Super Bowl in spite of Berger. Now Denver has to endure him. You guys (I’m a Steelers fan) should have kept Kern.
Berger’s going to cost the Broncos field position on Monday night, which should be key with two good defenses out there.
I will be surprised if Berger is still punting for Denver come the end of the regular season.
