One from the Archives: Chiefs@Broncos on MNF, 1994.

Found this on YouTube: Broncos vs Chiefs on Monday night Football in 1994. A shootout game, fun to watch. But what also stood out: I’d forgotten what a weak backfield Denver had that year. Glyn Milburn and Leonard Russell? (Milburn was a fun returner, of course.)

Makes me appreciate having Knowshon and Buck this year and some of the guys we’ve had over the last ten years.

I know this game doesn't end the way we wanted back then, hah hah, but hopefully with time elapsed you can watch at least parts of it with the same fascination I did.

(PS the continuation parts of that game are linked on the YouTube right side.)

Star-divide

Just wondering what other thoughts or remembrances people have for that non-Super Bowl Broncos team from that year. Wade Phillips vs Marty Schottenheimer! Hah hah.

I hate the Chefs

Why not play the 1991 game…two TDs in two final minute.

Verbose in style, dispersion of thought, procrastination in life.

I know, I was trying to find that one too

hah hah. I just thought this game was interesting to watch pieces of at least to see the personnel involved for both teams, and some players at the end of their careers (like Dennis Smith) and some at the beginning (or getting close to their peak, like Sharpe), and some who we never heard from again.

Plus Frank Gifford contributing nothing! LOL.

And Anthony Miller!

Who I was so disappointed by. He had his share of great moments but never became the long term all-pro I’d hoped for.

And Michael Pritchard. Hah.

Although

watch this chapter of the game from about 7 minutes to 8:30 to see a couple of big plays from Anthony Miller including a nice long TD throw from Elway.

If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

What I remember from 1994

was teh raiders coming into Mile Hi and crushing Denver 48-16. Right then and there I knew Denver was gonna fire Wade. Also behind Elway Denver went from 0-4 to 7-6, but Elway got hurt in the win at KC and they lost their last 3 games. The 94 defenes was god-awful. The only good thing about 1994 was my little girl was born.

That was a weird defensive year

Some beloved players like Meck and Smith (who makes a couple of nice tackles in that game) still around, a few good younger ones, and then a lot of also rans. And then the Chiefs had Neil Smith, who would later help Denver when they finally won a Super Bowl. Wade wasn’t a great coach but they also didn’t give him a lot of great players on O or on D to win with that year. Again, the game has a bad finish but it’s still interesting to watch, now that time has passed. I would love it if people found some other games from the 80s or 90s online somewhere.

What I remember from 1994

Was the home opener against SD. We were in the East stands. The Broncos were trailing in the closing minutes but Elway was driving us down the field and we assumed it was going to be another comeback. Inside the red zone in the North end he threw this weird-a$$ed pass that obviously got away from him somehow and fluttered for eternity and Jr Seau plucked it. End of game. We lost. It was the beginning of the end for Wade.

This raises an interesting question.

When is barrel man going to get an SB account?

If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Schottenheimer

Marty is the one opposing coach that I hated and respected at the same time. I am sure that Schottenheimer relished this game because Elway cost him so much over the years. I had just moved from the Denver area to the KC area in 1993 and many people I knew gave me newspaper pictures of the final TD of this game.

Guys...

Even though we lost this game, it was one of THE BEST MNF games, ever~!!!! Yes, we had a piss poor defense, but Elway vs Montanna == awesome, back and forth, multiple lead changes, high highs, low lows!! I remember how emotionally drained I was at midnight in my parents house as a young teenager, yet I realized I had just watched an amazing game. I rank this game as one of my Top 10 Bronco games watched, even though it was a loss.
