Madden's Take
Just a little bio of my self, I am a freshman in college, so although I dont have a lot of time to post and comment, I read MHR everyday. I decided to sim upcoming Bronco games on madden after I saw it on ESPN.com. I also want to better it, by giving an indepth analysis of what happens.I'm not sure how ESPN does this, but I do this by CPU vs. CPU, meaning I myself don't control any of the teams.
Sim Summary: 1st play Steelers have ball is a 10 yd curl route to Santonio Holmes against Cover 2. Somehow, the CPU for Denver took a really bad angle with BDawk and completely missed Holmes, who took it 70 yds after cathc for a TD. In real life, I think it probably would've been a 10+ yd first down grab, but whatever.7-0Steelers
1st Bronco possesion is a 3 & out, with Moreno being stuffed 2x and Otron only completing an 8 yd pass to BMarsh 7-0Steelers
2nd Steeler possesion: two staright 15 yd pass plays to Ward. Pressures there but Big Ben is smartly moving out of the way of pressure, great pocket prescence. After stuffing Mendenhal at the line 2x in a row, Looks like both teams aren't gonna allow the run. Phonz makes a great tackle on 3rd and long to prevent the first down, FG Steelers, 10-0 Steelers
2nd Broncos possesion: Orton also shows great pocket prescence by shuffling to his right so Moreno can pick up Harrison with a great block, then hits BMarsh for a first down, who after breaking one tackle, oddly runs sideways and picks up nothin. Next play Stokely gets a holding call while crack blocking a LB, doubt coach would call for Stoke to do that but who knows. 2nd and 12 Orton faces a CB blitz with zone, so he throws to Moreno who is where that CB wouldve been for a 20 yd gain. End of 1st. 3rd and 5, Harrison gets by Buck who actually shoved him into Orton and forces incompletion. FG Denver, 10-3 Steelers
3rd Steelers Possesion: Goodman makes a great jump on a Holmes in route, but drops the pick, would've been a huge play. Big Ben breaks a McBean arm tackle sack and throws a 5 yd gain to Holmes, another big play missed on in a row. 3rd and 4 incomplete Broncos ball
3rd Bronc poss: 1st play 4 curl routes none open but Orton was bout to force it in until Hood forces an errant throw. Couple of dink an dunks later and Orotn sees Ike Taylor drop a pick, but Orton has thrown beautiful thus far. 3rd and 10, no pressure but Orton dumps ball of to Gaffney for 8 yds, but no 1st. FG Denver, 10-6 Steelers
4th Steeler possesion: 2 min warning,Steelers running ball with minimal success, Holmes had a bomb in his hands but Champ knocks it out. Forces punt.
4th Bronco possesion: 47 secs left at 28, Orton throws a bad pick to Harrison Steelers ball at 14 17-6 steelers
Steelers: after almost throwin a pick, Ben finds Ward for a TD strike
Broncs: 22 secs left, Moreno breaks a huge gain on a run that was supposed to end the half. gets in FG range and Prater knocks one in easily, 17-9 Steelers.End of Half
Halftime Notes: No team ran ball well, except for Moreno's last run, longest was a 4 yd gain. both teams are getting pressure, but both QB's are showin great pocket prescence. Orton is inconsistent thus far, while Big Ben is shining. D is average looking right now, but Phonz has made some key plays thus far.
Broncs: Royal returns opening kickoff to the HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!! (this could realisticly happen cuz Steelers have been weak in kickoff coverage)2pt conversion is good, from Orton to Stoke tie 17-17
Steelers: Steelers still cant run the ball, 3rd and 13, Big Ben hits Holmes for 30 over Goodman, and then the next play, Goodman drops a pick thrown right at HIM!!! Goodman hasn't been playing well as Holmes already has 100 yds and he has been on him all game. after three QB pressures, punt goes for a Touchback
Broncos: More Orton effectivley dinking and Dunking, after a couple of 1st downs, Orton is forced into a 3rd and 13, with good protection hits Gaffney, but balls jarred loose. Thought Gaff should've come up with it, but it was a tough catch.Broncs punt
Steelers: Steelers run Mendenhal 3x's, but no first down. DJ made a great 3rd down stop, as he nailed nailed him flat on his back. He needed this, as they missed the 1st down by inches. DJ's been all over today, and I notice his coverage skills have been extraordinary for an LB, is this so in real life? No one ever mentions his coverage skills.
Broncs: Orton hits Royal for a 20 yd strike, but he fumbles. Heads up Moreno recovers it, now just outside of FG range which can take the lead. end of 3rd.So far, Steelers hav done a lot of CB blitzes, but Orton's been doing well against them. 3rd and 8 a BMarsh screen gets them in range, but Prater misses wide right... what a surprise, although to this point, he's been doing well on both FG's and kickoffs
Steelers: Big Ben finds Wallace on 3rd down to get a big gain and FG range. Big Ben's on fire this drive, while Mendenhal still can't do squat. Holmes cathes another TD, this one about 10 yds. Steelers 24-17
Broncs: 3:30 left, need to score here. pass to Bmarsh hits Weigman, which would've been a first down, but now we have 3rd and 9: Orton throws to Bmarsh deep, who almost has it but gets nailed. Broncos punt.
Steelers: 2min warning. Mendnehal gets stuffes for a loss one play, then breaks a run for a 3rd and inches. keep trying to run out clock, we lose all timeouts at 1:40, but that play foce a 5 yd loss for a 3rd and 15: Mewelde Moore up the middle, stuffed. now clock runs down to about 10 secs before they have to punt.
Royal gets to 30 with 4 secs left. Orton throws a prayer but picked off by Polamalu.
analysis: We could have easily won this game. First thing, that Holmes TD on the 1st play was bogus. In real life BDawk would have made the tackle, but the CPU gave Dawk a horrible angle so he didn't even attempt to tackle him. And that Prater missed FG also killed us. It was in the 4th quarter, and the good field position from the miss led to a Steelers score. Despite this, I think this game for the most part, was accurate. Both teams had trouble runiing the ball, which is quite possible. Both teams got good pressure on QB's, but they weren't getting a lot of sacks or QB hits.In this sim, Phonz played very well,as did DJ, Champ, McBean (he got in the backfield all game) and bmarsh. Those who played not so good were: Goodman, Orton, and hate to say it, Prater.
Stats: Orton: Passing: 17-28, 155 yds, 0-2 Ints.
Rushing: Moreno: 8-54 yds, with a long of 50 (other carries 7-4yds) Rec: Bmarsh: 6-40 (made many tough grabs for tough yards) Royal: 4-41 Moreno: 2-31 Gaff: 2-18 D: No Sacks picks, or fumbles, Total O: 264 Pass: 226 Rush: 38!!!!!This is a Fan-Created Comment on MileHighReport.com. Cool breakdown
Thanks for that.
One thing I hate about Madden is the turnovers. There are way too many picks and fumbles in the game. I’m sure it’s intentional as it makes it more exciting to play, but it takes away from the “reality” of the game.

agreed
that would be my only point of dispute with the game sim. I don’t see Orton throwing 2 picks.

I also see us winning a nail-biter.

np
It was actually pretty interesting, breaking the game down like film. I think I might continue to do this, if i have the time

ok now...
Redo the entire process atleast 100 times and give us the results.

It looked like they do it on the better side of 10,000 simulations for their results on ESPN...
I’ll get right on that. :)

I know they do it a lot of times

I’ve been following those Madden sims. It’s funny how often they have Orton throwing ints. If reality followed their sims, he’d have like 10+ on the season.

In the "earlier" days of Madden, TOs were even worse, sometimes 6 or 7/game
…on the positive side, Steve Atwater was a total badass
