Turn Invesco Orange, Broncomaniacs!!!

Ok, so we're still a few days away from a serious test against the pass-happy world champ Steelers, and the staff and players are no doubt beavering away at producing a winning gameplan and perfecting the execution that this will require, but let's get to part of the game where we, the fans, can really play our part.

For the Broncs to 1) get into the playoffs and 2) go deep into the playoffs, we need Invesco Field to become a fortress, in the way Mile High always used to intimidate its victims. Damn, it always felt like we started off every game up by at least a score psychologically.

How things have changed I'm sad to say.

Homefield advantage is not something that seems to have transferred across the parking lot since the old stadium was razed. It's almost as if other teams enjoy coming to our place and handing us our butts. If we want to see our team go places this year, then we need to help where we can - and that starts with making the opposing team feel unwelcome. Oakland has its Black Hole, Cleveland its Dawg Pound, but certainly they shouldn't be any match for our great fans.

But yet, the last time our next opponents - the Steelers - were in town for Jake's AFC Championship game, it seemed like half the stadium was waving those damned yellow rags. Turned my stomach, and it should do the same to any self-respecting Bronco fan. And even this season, when the Cowgirls were in the house, you'd have thought the game was being played in Texas, given the cheers when the Pokes went 10-0 up.

My point is that we need to rally together, and really make Invesco our impenetrable sanctuary, a place synonymous with pain and defeat for visiting teams, not somewhere were we roll out the red carpet at every opportunity to meet and greet our kindly guests. Enough of that sh*t already - let's see the fans reclaim our stadium and help our team wherever we can. Opponents third downs? Damn, I remember Shanahan having to plead with the crowd to calm down for fear of getting penalised!! That hasn't happened in a long time.

Now, it's all very well me making these rousing battle cries, but I msut admit that there's a serious flaw in my argument. Well two actually. The first is I'll not be there, so there's your first opportunity to get back at me! I'll be there in spirit, but not body I'm afraid. Since I'm based in the UK, I ain't going to be there unfortunately, so I guess I'm a bit like a foreign cheerleader in that respect, exhorting all you locals to get there and sacrifice your hard earned cash and your voice to scream for the Orange. One of the reasons I began following the Broncos in 1984 was the dedication and commitment I saw from their fans - turning out in blizzards (and throwing the odd snowball at opposing kickers - I still love that!!), and I hope we're not becoming a legion of what commentators over this side of the Atlantic tend to call the "prawn sandwich brigade" - the corporate fan who has no affiliation to the team and whose only purpose in life, as I see it, is to price out real fans from getting tickets. Please don't let us go down that path (Memo to Mr Bowlen...?)

The second flaw is more pragmatic - and also possibly worthy of Bowlen's attention - the current economic recession doesn't make attendance a given, but come on people, let's not be selling off your seats to these in-bred visiting fans....I appreciate it costs a lot of money - but if you can go, go. If you can't, sell your ticket to another Bronco fan, and he can scream on your behalf. Hell, set up a Ticketmaster outlet on MHR....!

Anyway, I hope I haven't offended anyone, that's not my intention at all. It's just I really think we, sorry, you fortunate local ticketholders - can make a difference in what is already becoming a season to remember. Let's not make it a season to remember for another team. It's Orange or bust.

While I'll not be there, rest assured I'll be sitting up and watching the game live on Monday night - rather, Tuesday morning - kickoff here in Northern Ireland will be after 1am - and I really hope I see a blanket of orange to drown out that hateful black and yellow! Paint the place orange. Please!!! Go Broncs.

Denver Post Article 5/11

Pretty sad whenI’m the first reply to my own article, but I’ve just seen an article in today’s Denver Post which reiterates my fears. Check it out at:
http://www.denverpost.com/premium/broncos/ci_13716406 if you’re a subscriber to the Broncos coverage. Interesting – and worrying – read.

Nice Article

Do you think we could work with the Broncos to organize an Orange Out since they are wearing the alternate Uni’s. Maybe contact Saccomano and see if we can get something going?

Great Handle BTW!

Do you reckon that the Inner Sanctum at Dove Valley keep an eye on the MHR pulse? Maybe Jim is looking into your suggestion as we speak. Certainly sounds good to me!! Thanks for the comments.

Thanks MHM

Anybody know how to get in touch with Jim Saccomano? Or the organization about this idea. We have a short time to organize this but I think it could be done through the DP and all the local news outlets. Maybe the Broncos could get Orange Shirts to hand out.

We can ALL copy MHM's article to Saccomano's twitter account or blog on denverbroncos.com

RM Thunder, I saw the same thing that they will be wearing the Orange Uni’s on Monday night so the foundation is in place. Maybe we also need to hit a local Denver Media Outlet, I have a link to VIc and Gary Radio show.
Power in numbers lets all hit em together!!

Good thoughts guys

I had the same worries today and like you I can’t do much about it directly since I’m not in Denver. Worried people are selling tix to Steelers fans (which is their right of course) and worried that the crowd we get won’t be boisterous enough. Wearing orange is a great idea, and as there are plenty of tix available telling your Denver area friends to buy ’em and go is another.

Watching that game in the archives I posted this week, from 1994, made me nostalgic for Olde Mile High, which was unparalleled in its rocking. The crowd can really help, let’s fill it up folks!

Hear hear guys. Maybe I’m just getting uptight about this game – its significance in terms of possible tiebreaks can’t be overstated. Huge game, with the Broncs to squeak it…..I hope. I don’t fancy sitting up to 5am to be disappointed….

Thanks for the comments guys.

RMT

Not being a local, I’m probably not the best to advise, and especially with just a few days to go, it probably is too late to organise something coherent, but why not even get in touch with the Denver Post and getting them on board, on the basis of the article I attached earlier. Get them to put their money where their mouth is, or at least use their networking and publishing acumen!! Alternatively, what about emailing denverbroncos.com ? I’m sure you could get something through to a PR manager or such like. Getting them on board is another matter though…
A final option might be to contact the MHR hierarchy – isn’t John Bena interviewing the Snow Goose at 10pm MT tonight? Maybe get a question into him about it and that might raise some awareness…
That said, I can’t help feeling, given this is the Broncos’ first home Monday night game of the season, that the club will already have something organised. Not sure what. Just as long as it’s ORANGE!!!
Anyway, it’s now well past the witching hour here – I’m off to bed. Good talking with you and good luck if you decide to pursue this. Keep me posted. Go Broncs!

MHR Radio

with Meck was actually last night (and I missed it too!) Think it should be posted by now or soon…

So you guys in the UK get to see ESPN games live then? you’re die hards staying up that late (or early rather)!

Late Stint

Sorry, been offline for a day or two – but you can get ESPN here but it’s a sanitized European version, with a preferenec for the wrong type of football – soccer! I get by with some computer links which seem to work reasonably well over here. That said, I couldn’t get any of the 1st Quarter at Baltimore last week, so it’s somewhat flawed. Beats listening to the old wavering Armed Forces Radio broadcasts I used to listen to when I first started listening….

will also be up at stupid o'clock

Hey MHM, nice rally rousing article, as a fellow Brit I will also be up at 1.30 for the Steelers game. I felt like hell going to work two hours after the Chargers game finished the other week but it was worth it and I hope it will be this time too!

and the sing along songs will be our scriptures - we gotta stay positive!

Badger

Good for you Badger! Yes, I’ve scheduled my Tuesday meetings for Wednesday, so I’m hoping there’s no problems in work on Tuesday… Go Broncs!

Minor point

The last time the steelers were in town was actually October 21st, 2007. We beat them then because I was at the game. :)

Minor Point

You’re quite right, and I think we beat them something like 31-28 didn’t we? But as you probably guessed, I was talking about the AFC Championship where Jake sadly imploded, and our D went AWOL – a sign of things to come the next two seasons?? But strictly speaking you’re right. Damn, yer a tough crowd!! Cheers.

Season tickets

I’m not a local but I did go to a MNF game against the Packers. I was pretty surprised by the amount of Packer fans that were at the game. It must have been about 1/3 of the stadium. I have been on the list for season tickets but I don’t expect to get them anytime soon. Maybe 20 years.

I don’t know any season ticket holders but my opinion is some of the season ticket holders do resale the tickets. Which is there right to do so according to the Denver Broncos. I personally would like that policy changed. I might be able to get my season tickets.

Go Broncos! Bring the Thunder!
