The Broncos aren't who we thought they were...

This is what I know about the Broncos...they are a better TEAM than we had any right to think in the offseason.  6-2 at the midpoint is a fantastic success.  They are a vastly improved defense from what we thought we might have in the offseason.  Our defense isn't who we thought they were (best in the league) after the first 6 games.  They have certainly handled themselves well even in the two losses, but they are not the best.  Our offense is not as good as our record may suggest.  After last season, we riled on about the need to improve our scoring offense to match up with our offensive yardage rankings.  We did the opposite...our yardage output has dropped considerably to match up with our scoring.  I'm not sure what our rankings are after tonights game, but i'm sure we are in the bottom third of both categories now.  Now I'm just a regular fan with little knowledge of X's and O's, but the only way our offense works is if we are able to establish the run and have a couple of big plays...keep opposing defenses somewhat honest.  Also, as much as I appreciate the lack of interceptions this year, we don't have big play capability.

All told, I'm ecstatic to be factors in the playoffs this year, but my expectations have been tempered a bit.  We have much to improve on offensively.  Our defense just can't expect to hold up game after game without much offensive support.  We saw tonight and last week what a tired defense looks like.  It reminds me a bit of last year at times.  Score for the last two games...58-17 against the Broncos.  Our defense deserves better.  Who woulda thought that would be the case after last year!

Good article

I notice that it’s not getting much airtime, but that happens when you’re level headed and many folks want to vent. Well done anyway!

This proves to me one thing

Last years defense was not as bad as many think. Cutler’s TO’s and the RB injuries kept the D on the field WAY too long.

This year it looks to me like the interior of the OL has gone to hell. What is up with Hamilton? Can he even block anyone any more? Good Lord, he has been used and abused the last two games.

No QB in the NFL could have a decent game against a rush like Orton has had to endure the last two weeks. It is a wonder he has withstood that pounding.

Who was the OL that helped Keisel block the pass that many thought was a fumble late in the game? Way to go, bro. Could you have at least pushed the man to the outside? Oh, wait, I forget you were in full reverse! How about Moreno’s sucky block on the blitzing LB up the middle? Hit the bum in the face! None of this wimpy namby pamby attempts to trip the guy up. HIT HIM!

Gruden and Jaws were having a heyday at the expense of the OL.

I respectfully disagree

The defense declined precipitously the previous two years. They couldn’t stop anything. Just think of yesterday’s 2nd half on steroids, or without steroids as the case may be.

I think most of your posts are pretty good, Igor

but I also have to disagree here. Last year’s defence was appalling. Remember those safeties? Webster? All the starters that are now unemployed?

And Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay seems to get beaten up even worse than Orton, but still has some pretty good games.

I agree with you about the inside line problems (it’d be hard not to). The good thing is that’s the easiest area to fix. Tackles are the rare commodity, and we have two good ones, taht we can build from.

I think we need to find a new punter, though.
