The weak link

Our O line is asked to do things that Shanny did not intend, and it has not been revamped to do what McD is asking.  Guess it is just growing pains, but unless we can somehow find a running game against tought defenses we will be out in one in the playoffs.  But all being said and done, we are still very well on track for the 12-4 I predicted before preseaon began.  Our Defense is totally awsome, they just need some help from the offense.  Ty Law looks like a great addition.

Ben isn't suited for the power running game we are trying to run.

IMO I think we need to use more zone blocking until we can get some more beef at center and left guard.

Our new DOOMesday Defense!!!! YOU LIKE??????????????

+1

O line is our weak link – at least the way it is being used. All the glowing praise for our offensive line by most MHR posters was way off the mark. They never could power block – last year or this year. Pass protection against good blitzes was also marginal – and tonight the O lines weaknesses were exploited by a good defense. We are not going anywhere in the playoffs unless the O line can be used in way that they are much more effective – and I doubt that can be corrected this year. I still think we will make the playoffs, but winning a playoff game is unlikely.

Great progress has been made with our defense, but unless similar progress can be made with our O line next year, then it will be at least 2011 before we can really compete for the championship.

Orton is not the major problem. We have one great O lineman, perhaps two who are ok (Kuper and Harris) and that’s it. And Kuper looked bad tonight. This team is unable to run against strong D lines. It is not that we have bad backs or bad blocking receivers; we have a weak O line.

Harris was out today though. That leaves Kuper, Wiegmann, Hamilton, and Polumbus. Which one of these guys is our strength? Today wasn’t a fair assessment of the O-line. I agree that maybe the zone blocking scheme would be more effective, but I don’t think changing line schemes halfway through the season is smart or prudent.

Berger - ugh

As a Steeler fan, I’m telling you, the Broncos need to get rid of Mitch Berger. He’s going to hurt you all season long. I still don’t understand why the Broncos dumped Kern (he outkicked his coverage? No chance of that with Mitch).

Berger only punted last year because Sepulveda had knee surgery. He’s simply a bad punter.
