Don't Jump
The sky isn’t falling. It’s just that we have been outmatched by a very physical football team. Going against the Ravens and steelers back to back is tough. They are two very physical football teams. The Steelers are number 1 in the league against the run, which explains why we were able to do nothing on the ground. It's not because we are broken, it is just because they are good at what they do.
The broncos don't seem like they match up well against very physical teams. Well, luckily we don't play any more teams that are as physical as the Ravens or Steelers until, at least, January.
We are 6-2, which is a great record. We still get to play the Redskins once and Chiefs twice and the Raiders once. We get the chargers again, as well. If we win those games, that’s 11. The other games are definitely winnable, as well. We should make the playoffs. That isn’t asking a lot.
Well, KB, the Chargers are 1 game back, now..........
Well, so and so, we get to play them and set them back another game. We control our own destiny, now. The Chargers don't have a very easy road, either. They have Dallas, Cincy, Philly and DENVER. If we beat them, we are fine.
So, chill out, everyone. This sky isn't falling and we aren't dead in the water. We are leading the division and own a tiebreaker. We are undefeated in our division, so far. Things may seem dark and dismal for many of you, but things are far from terrible. Don't jump ship because we aren't done yet. Dawkins, Doom, Marshall and Royal aren't done. McDaniels isn't done. The Broncos aren't done.
6-2. Enough said.

Valid Points But . . .
I think we need to come to grips with Kyle Orton. Signing Orton to an extension must be placed on the back burner. Orton cannot stretch the field. He is not worth a long-term, big money investment. I realize the McDaniels’ offense is based on short accurate passing, but even the New England Patriots took a couple of shots down the field every game when McDaniels was their offensive coordinator. With Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, et al. there is no reason not to keep the defense off balance with more than bubble screens, hitches and slants.

The slants and intermediate passing game was very effective for a while.
Once the Steelers started to key in on that, we were in trouble. We had no running game to bring the defense into the box. So they protected that part of the field, brought pressure and it was game over. You can’t blame this on Orton. He didn’t have enough time to throw it downfield.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Second Week in a Row
Defenses are starting to figure out how to slow the Broncos’ offense. Until Denver can stretch the field, I will maintain such an opinion. Look what Big Ben did tonight even under duress. The good and great offensive teams can stretch the field (see e.g., New Orleans, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Minnesota).

Here's how you slow the broncos offense. Dominate their offensive line. Play extremely physical and pressure orton.
Not many teams will be able to do that. Sure, it’s all well and good to say that you can take advantage of the broncos because we won’t stretch the field. Well, teams like the ravens and steelers force us to play short because of the quick pressure they get on orton.
Our two losses were basically to the same team. Very strong run defenses and opportunistic secondaries that make you pay once you become one dimensional.
Show me another team we play that is as physical as the steelers or ravens………..
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Opposing Secondaries
Pittsburgh was missing a starting safety and his replacement picked Orton off twice. The Ravens’ secondary aside from Ed Reed is the weak link of their team. That said, I will concede that Denver’s offensive line needs to get back to its pre-November mode because without a running game and little time to throw, no offense is going to do much of anything.

If you were over at the Steelers site, they spoke highly of their safeties without Clark.
They are very deep at safety. Safeties are to Pittsburg what RBs were to Denver in the Shanahan era.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

There are two keys to defending the pass.
A pass rush and a secondary. Without one, the other looks terrible no matter how well it actually does. Both the Ravens and the Steelers had trouble early in the season establishing a pass rush, which made their secondary look weak (not to menntion the lack of Polamalu for the Steelers). If you look at both their weeks before their byes, they didn’t suffer from this problem. Our lack of second-half pass rush in the last two games has made our secondary look pretty damn weak (or the opposing QBs pretty good).

Wow.
Cutler lost us more games than he won for us. Did he ever face this level of vitriol? No, it was always the defense. Or the line, that didn’t get him enough time. Grow up guys.

I was no Jay Cutler Apologist
I am glad Cutler is gone, but why harp on those who want the Broncos to take a few shots down the field from time to time? Cutler has nothing to do with this. McDaniels’ offenses have taken shots down the field almost every game in the past before coming to Denver, why scrap it from game plans now?

It's because they haven't had the protection against the ravens and steelers.
We can take shots against teams when we have good protection. It isn’t advantageous for us to use long routes when Orton doesn’t get time to set his feet before he is pressured.

So tell me...
With one DL in place and 5 guys moving around…..TELL ME WHO IS COMING ON THE RUSH!
You watched the game, as ws I and I could not tell you who was coming on the rush.
Did you see Hamilton being swatted aside like a fly? How about Moreno’s whiff block on the blitzing LB? Polumbus tried, but he even blocked an Orton pass with HIS HELMET because he was in full reverse trying to block a Steeler.
Come on, dude, tell me when Orton had time. I was screaming at my TV “Good Lord, Block Somebody…Please” most of the game.
Yet they were still in it until the 4th quarter.
I am not about to jump ship. If you are….see ya, bye, shalom, arrevederci, good riddance.

I'll tell you what happened: WE LET EM' OFF THE HOOK
THEY WERE WHO WE THOUGH THEY WERE, oh yeah the world champs.
To those of you wanting to stretch the field, it’s kinda tough when you have no running game. Bottom line, we just played probably the best two defenses in the league. We’ll be back to normal next week and all the naysayers will be calling for a contract extension for the neckbeard.
Too bad your in Kentucky Bronco cuz I’d love to have a beer with you right now. Good post and keep the positive comments coming.
