This rubbed me the wrong way.

Who is J-man and why does he go around on other team’s websites doing a Q&A on behalf of MHR. I saw him on the KC website just this week?

Let me quote his opening line: “j-man here i do this for mhr for every opponent blog i come over and talk q about den some blogs its works great ne wash nyg some it does not dal etc etc its a rivalry game records don’t matter”

His grammar, spelling mistakes and inattention to detail are embarrassing. Kaptain said he does this on his own, which would be his choice. But if any of you see him writing as if he is a voice piece for MHR, I hope you let him know he needs to disassociate himself from MHR (if, in fact, j-man is not associated with MHR).

If j-man was asked to provide this Q&A service on opponents websites on behalf of MHR? Wow… that was a bizarre choice.

This is my favorite website.

by McGeorge on Dec 1, 2009 7:30 AM MST reply actions

Well, his physical condition alleviates any discomfort I had with his mistakes.

However, j-man should still refrain from saying, "I’m here for MHR" if, in fact, he is doing a Q&A completely of his own volition. That is misrepresentation (lying is the not so nice word) and he (anyone) should know better.

This is my favorite website.

Guru used to do them but he stopped a few weeks ago, not sure why — I had hoped that someone else on staff would start doing it on behalf of MHR since the other teams are coming here to do them. I know some other posters have sort of tried to answer questions but there is a reason some people are staff and others are not =)

I’m sorry I came at j-man so hard with my first post. He is a great Bronco fan and has a lot to offer.

I just hope that in the future, he introduces himself as a Bronco fan instead of an extension of MHR.

by McGeorge on Dec 1, 2009 9:43 AM MST up reply actions

It’s not a team effort. You, myself and j-man do not represent MHR.

We are just Bronco fans, and if we want to talk with opposing fans, we need to do so as Bronco fans, not on behalf of MHR.

That is my only problem with what j-man is doing. I’m thrilled he enjoys talking with fans of our opponents. I’m not thrilled when he says “i do this for mhr for every opponent”.

This is my favorite website.

by McGeorge on Dec 1, 2009 9:43 AM MST up reply actions

Right, aren't we all just broncos fans, anyways?

Think about it. Everyone who is on MHR is a broncos fan. So, if we say we are representing bronco fans, then people could take it to the next level and say we are actually representing MHR. Especially if they can just as easily click your name and see you are a MHR member..

J-man is from MHR, talking about the broncos. I don’t see how that bears any conflict, here.

You need to understand the definition of what MHR is. Look at the top of the page. It says “by the fans, for the fans”. So, j-man contributes to MHR, so isn’t j-man as much a part of MHR as MHR is a part of him?

Send Guru an email and see if he has a problem with j-man going over and talking to the chief fans. I seriously doubt that he will.

If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

by Troy Hufford on Dec 1, 2009 10:02 AM MST up reply actions

I think the quality of response is not representative of what the MHR staff would give. Other blogs come here and give well thought out, lengthy responses to our questions. I have nothing against j-man but he can’t articulate in the same fashion due to his illness. He may very well think the exact same things as what someone else who would post does, but he can’t put it to the screen in that fashion.

“the biggest reson is mcd does not know how to use eddie kyle does not look for him on a conteidnt basis gaffly and slockly are better fits for the system”

I think our coach is smart enough to know how to use Eddie, it is just that Eddie isn’t getting any separation from the defenders and also missing a lot of balls that are thrown his way. Stokley has 12 catches on the season and Gaffney has fewer than Royal as well. Royal has 15% of the teams receptions [Marshall is at 26%]. It isn’t bad for a team that throws to its TE / RB as often as we do. The ball is just getting spread around a lot more than it did last year.

I don’t want to sound condescending, which I am sure I probably do, but if the people who run the other blogs take their time to come here, I think it is only fair that it happens from MHR as well. Obviously some things will come up sometimes but hopefully you get my point.

by Troy Hufford on Dec 1, 2009 11:07 AM MST up reply actions

I understand where you guys are going with this and that's fine.

I think j-man does a good job with putting the post up at the other sites and getting them to ask questions. He is respected and people seem to like him. You guys are worried about how well the questions are answered.

Frankly, the answers that are given by anyone at the other sites could be more complete, myself included. If you or McG or anybody else feels like a question is being answered incorrectly or could be expanded upon, go ahead and do it.

Maybe I’m just getting too involved in this. I don’t know. I’d be interested to see what ideas you guys have, though. It seems to me that John has been pretty busy lately and hasn’t done the “question post” or mhr radio in a while and I think the question post is a great feature every week. I’d like to see someone do it if John can’t, and right now, j-man is doing it. So, do you guys want to nominate someone to do it since John is busy or what?

If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

by Troy Hufford on Dec 1, 2009 11:22 AM MST up reply actions

I don't think so kb and my feelings exactly.
Maybe I’m just getting too involved in this.

Before people start pointing fingers they should remember there are 3 pointing right back at them. I have disabilities my ownself and don’t need to throw them out here for the more eloquent wrters on here to blast out how intelligent they aren’t. They do that on their own. We here at MHR are all representatives of the site and don’t need anyone to say we aren’t. A fool is known by what comes out of his mouth and it has shown it’s ugly face on here way too often.

I myself don’t have enough knowledge of the fine game of football to give answers of any questions. I am honored that j-man a man of disabilities has taken the bull by the horns so to speak when nobody else would. I always hated the bully in school that would belittle the disadvantaged and sometimes had to take up for them in a bloody fight. Which I didn’t mind at all. And I don’t mind it now. If something isn’t done about people putting down others then it might come down to it again.

You are NOT getting my point.

I have no problem with j-man going over to other fan sites and taking with their fans.

I do have a problem with j-man going over to other sites and saying “i do this for mhr”. He doesn’t. He does this for himself. Huge difference.

This is my favorite website.

by McGeorge on Dec 1, 2009 11:53 AM MST up reply actions

I think this is getting blown way out of proportion.

There’s a difference between “for mhr” and “from mhr”. If he edited it so say “from mhr”, you wouldn’t have a problem with it? I really don’t think it makes a difference, one way or the other. Their questions are being answered, aren’t they?

“By the fans for the fans” almost sounds like information goes both ways, IMO. By saying “from MHR” instead of “for MHR”, that will change your acceptance of j-man’s post? Either way, someone from this site, whether it is j-man, Guru, you or whoever is answering their questions. That is the important thing.

I guess just go ahead and send j-man a message then and tell him it means a lot to you that he change his post from “for” to “from”.

If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Well,

I suspect that most readers from other sites will blame MHR for whatever ills they percieve whether it be from the editor in chief or the newest member.
I personally feel you are picking at nits. I understand your feelings and have to say I agree except this is a free, fan run site. The only powers the staff have are editorial.

Anyone that posts anywhere that can be traced back to MHR can also bring wrath upon MHR simply by being a member. It is that simple.

McGeorge has a very valid point. I don’t blog at other sites to represent MHR. I blog at other sites to discuss MY opinions with others.

This isn’t about McGeorge making rules, etc. It is about proper representation. If you guys want to get all democratic, then post a poll for jman being the official MHR cross-blogger. I for one will vote “Heck No”.

Dude has an opinion, doesn’t mean he represents the whole friggin community which we are all a part of.

Thanks alot guys

Now J-Man edited his post to say “I do this to heip on my own”

It sounded considerably better saying he was from MHR. While you have legitimate concerns with how you are portrayed. We all know he is not on staff at MHR, and most of us are intelligent enough as to know he does not represent everyone’s views. Quite frankly, I can not think of any blogger I would want to emulate more than J-Man. He has a heart of gold.

Those of us that read J-Man’s posts know that it is going to be more work than the average post, but J-Man really studies the game, and we find insight in what he has to say. Rather than nitpick, I would prefer to see a reply where his words are edited. I occassionally try to edit his work (and hope I get the meaning right.)

I just wanted to give the perspective of the reader from the other blog.

"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."

It's be hard not to root for a team coaches by Shanny and Kubiak!

Kubiak in particular is a guy I’ve always liked. I know there’s been a lot of discussion in the last 3 years of Shanny’s tenure as to what was wrong with the team – the D, lack of commitment to the running game, cutler vs plummer, etc, and it’s all been rehashed ad naseum. but I’ll throw my 2 cents behind the theory that Kubiak’s departure hurt the broncos as much as anything else. those three years without him the offense may have moved the ball in spurts here and there, but it rarely was able to control the pace of the game and keep the D off the field.

Belief is accepting something because you’ve been convinced to do so, whether you like it or not. Faith is accepting something because you want to accept it.

agreed Herc

Kubiak was/is a class act. The Broncos missed him greatly imo.

by Jenna Talia on Dec 1, 2009 7:52 AM MST up reply actions

Agreed

Kubiak seems to have a gift reaching difficult players. I would have loved to see him work with Cutler for three years. He was an absolute class act as Elway’s first back up. It’ll be a shame if he loses his job because of a kicker and Matt Schaub’s inability to put together whole games. The Texans have improved a great deal under him, and they are much better than their record this year.

Shannahan was a great QB coach

and made history with the QB he mentored to maturaty (sp?), in my opinion. His time with the raiders was not different from many other coaches. I think he will return and do a good if not great job for another team, hopefully in the NFC.

This season reminds me of 1998 when Denver ran away with the AFC while the Vikings and Falcons dominated the NFC. We all know how that season ended.

I will be shocked if the NFC championship is anyone other than the Vikings vs Saints. I see no way that a team like Dallas, Arizona or Green Bay could win an away game vs either team.

However, this Colt team is not nearly as dominant as the 1998 Broncos were. Indy could be defeated (at home) by several good teams in the AFC, including Denver.

I'm really rooting for the saints

I think they’ve got what it takes to win it all, though the vikes are a formidable opponent and arguably more balanced as a whole. All things being even, I’d take brees over any QB in the league. the only reason why he’s not been regarded in the same category as Manning and Brady is that he hasn’t had the same roster around him – and just look what he’s doing now that he does have it.

The Saints are Fascinating to Watch

It’s like their receivers are greased, or something. Every time I see that team play, swing passes, seams and short posts get sprung into enormous plays. Brees and his receivers do an amazing job of connecting on passes in a way that makes it easy to wrong-foot the DBs. When I have visions of the dominant Broncos’ offense of the future, that’s generally what they look like — short/intermediate stuff that always seems to go for more yards than it should.

does anyone know

why 158.3 QB rating is the best that can be achieved ?

Start with Brees, who completed 18 of 23 passes for 371 yards, five touchdowns for a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3 (don’t ask why, but that’s the best you can get in the rating formula).

that seems weird. you’d think incompletions would mean you can’t be perfect. Tony Romo math i guess ?

by Jenna Talia on Dec 1, 2009 8:07 AM MST reply actions

QB Rating is a combination of completion %, TD %, INT %, and YPA. But for some reason, the NFL version limits the value of each statistic, while the college version does not.

Right

Basically, anything over a certain completion percentage is considered perfect. They don’t expect that anyone can complete 100% in a game, I guess. I wonder if this has ever happened for more than a reasonable number (say, 15?) of passes.

That said, the big toe obviously generates most of the leverage in your foot – I can only imagine how hard it would be to backpedal while absorbing the force of a 300 lb D Lineman’s rush.

Mark Cooper's article in Orange&Blue was an interesting read.

You can read it here.

Here’s what happens in a Mile High stadium. You pound those big defensive lineman and you chop and cut them to the ground everytime you can. They have to get up and chase the play and by the 3rd-4th quarter, they are tired … and that’s a distinct advantage at a Mile High. Bootlegs help make them run around and scramble plays too. Make those big bodies run, like they’re not use to. "Advantage Broncos."

This is exactly what I had said in several posts and hope McD learns to implement those types of runs in the future. Especially at Mile High where altitude has a direct effect on people coming from the low lands

This makes me feel a bit sad: Elam update

on Denver Post:
Elam gets boot as Broncos’ Prater is honored

I hope he lands somewhere else and gets his second (or 12th) wind, to get to that landmark.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos fan in Niners/Raiders country, and damned proud of it.

I think that's a good point, bfree et al

There’s nothing quite like trying to run on aching legs when you can’t get enough oxygen. Our running game should be in high gear about then.
