Horse Tracks 12/10/09 - Dawkins practices, Bruton held out; Harris placed on IR, replaced by Herb Taylor on roster

Good MORNING, MHR Friends!! Mrs. Lee and I are back from Barcelona, and we had a great trip; belated thanks for all of your kind words and wishes. Frankly, I wouldn't mind eating like a Catalan for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, we weren't able to see the Broncos' whipping of the Chefs, and I certainly feel a bit out of the loop here. Thanks as always to John for filling in more than admirably. I missed you folks! Now, let's get to the news!
DB - Week 14 - Wed: McDaniels - Broncos TV
NFL Films Presents - McDaniels high school roots
DPP - Dawkins healthy enough to practice - Mike Klis
DPP - Colts' pass-rushing defensive ends provide challenge for Broncos - Mike Klis
"In a 10-year span from 1998 to 2007, Broncos nickelback Ty Law registered 11 interceptions, including playoffs, against Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. No other defender has more picks against Manning...Harris was replaced on the roster Wednesday by tackle Herb Taylor, who spent two seasons with Kansas City before he was released in training camp...Special-teamer David Bruton was held out of practice Wednesday with a thigh injury."
DPP - Broncos' Buckhalter better than ever at age 31 - Jeff Legwold
"I am faster, no doubt, but when I first came in the league I was 231 (pounds)," Buckhalter said. "Then I hurt my knee. After my first knee surgery, I got down to 225 for the next couple years. Then I hurt my other knee twice, so I wanted to get down some more. So now I play at 218." Remember all those alarm bells when McD said Buck was the fastest Broncos back?
LTC - The Linchpin - Brian Howell
"The Broncos’ trust in Larsen as a fullback has become evident the past few weeks. He lined up at fullback on 22 of the Broncos’ 40 runs against the Giants, and he was on the field just as much Sunday."
DB - Remembering The Barrelman - Jim Saccomano
RIP, Barrel Man. Our thoughts go out to the McKernan family.
DPP - Mailbag: A 'Barrel' of fun - Woody Paige
"A lot has been lost in the move to the new stadium, and (Barrel Man's) absence is one of those missing pieces. I thought about it today and feel the Broncos should honor Tim at the Oakland game (a natural) with a moment of cheering, not silence, and honor him permanently in some way. "

"So yes, Mr. Vrabel – McDaniels was most certainly trying to show you who your daddy is. Or perhaps he was telling Pioli, "I’m Bill’s best and brightest, not you." Or maybe it had something to do with retribution for the Cassel trade, which didn’t exactly play out the way the Broncos had hoped, at least at the time."

“The true value of the trade will be who ends up with the better quarterback. Orton is in the last year of his contract. Cutler has to change his game, but he has talent. You win in this league with quarterback play.” Apparently, Clayton has rewritten history; not sure if you got the memo, but the Broncos traded Jay Cutler straight up for Kyle Orton awhile back.
In this same article, Clayton goes off about how Joe Flacco is an elite QB after one decent season where he was protected by his defense and never had to win a game on his own and has been nothing more than mediocre this entire year… regressing in each game. He has potential but I think it’s ridiculous that Clayton’s calling him elite… is Matt Cassel elite? How about Bruce Gradkowski??
Clayton didn’t have Cutler in his 14 elite QBs. Clayton kept saying “Chicago needs to get Cutler right”
What the hell does that mean?
This is my favorite website.
It means he is Chicago's problem.
Only Cutler can get Cutler right and I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

But what does it mean “get right”.
It could mean a million different things. I hate blanket statements.
So I guess I’ll go get right.

Welcome Back Doug, You missed a great beat down of the Chiefs.
The team was clicking on all cylinders, may it continue with the Colts.
Thanks again for all you do…

Welcome back, and thanks!
Nice to see all the remembrances of the Barrel Man. I think a permanent memorial of some kind is definitely in order.
Thanks for another fantastic season...here's to Rocktober 2010!

Did you improve your lisping skills?
I know Ryan Harris went on IR so maybe my timing is not the best, but our injury report has one ST guy on it. One guy in week 14… This has to be one of the healthiest Bronco teams in years. Half the Colts are listed on their injury report including a bunch of guys that did not practice yesterday.
Is Bob Sanders playing Sunday?
This is my favorite website.
I actually didn't do much lithping
While my wife speaks Spanish, I don’t (I took French way back when). So I let her do the talking, although for the most part everyone spoke English. A friend of mine of Spanish birth had told us the Catalans don’t appreciate being spoken to in traditional Spanish, so we mostly avoided it for that reason anyway.
Bob Sanders is on IR.

And like I was saying before, they patiently explained to me that they were Catalans, not Spaniards. Oh well, they’re positively mellow about the issue compared to folks from the Basque Country or Galicia.
Did you go to the Fundacio Joan Miro? I think the world of Miro, and seeing the paintings in a museum of his own design was excellent.
Whoops. Missed that!
We didn’t do a heck of a lot of touristing. We mostly ate and shopped, haha. The most time we spent at a landmark was Parc Guell, which we absolutely loved. Sagrada Familia was absolutely stunning.

Welcome Back
The beatdown of the Chiefs on Sunday was thrilling. Your absence was felt Monday, when there just wasn’t enough to read about it.
Thrilling? That makes is sound like an exciting game.
It was more of a pleasant Sunday stroll. It wasnāt boring to watch, but it was easy.

That was the Third-Largest Broncos Victory This Decade
I don’t care how little tension there was in the game, a 31-point victory only happens once every few years. Destroying another team is always thrilling.
Thanks Doug
I’m glad you had a good respite.

Re: King
I don’t get how people who cover football can’t seem to understand how changing QBs every year — particularly when your system takes two-three years to learn — is not something coaches wish to do readily.
I’d be shocked if the Broncos took a QB early in the draft; but then, I’ve been wrong before.
Once.
NFL Films Presents - McDaniels high school roots
This should be a required watch for all Bronco fans!!!
Real insight into the McFootball mind and drive.
I'd heard that story beforfe
but it was great that NFL Films did it justice, and I loved the little post-Pats locker room sound bite. “The only guys we need to believe in this team are right here in this room.” I don’t think he was referring to Woody. ^^
"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.

So much
for Buck being “20 pounds heavier than Moreno” as I’ve heard said. Moreno’s listed weight and what Buckhalter says he is now puts him at eight pounds heavier.
I think Barrelman should have a statue outside the stadium. How cool would that be?

Welcome back!
Hope you had a good trip Senor Lee.
And I’m glad you do the job of reading John Clayton so I don’t have to. ;-)
You should watch the Broncos Chiefs game in the archives if you can, because it’s fun.
Doubt Sunday’s game will be quite as much fun, but hope it’s a W.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants country, and damned proud of it.
Barcelona is one of my favorite European cities.
Gaudi’s architecture is stunning indeed with the Sagrada Familia an ongoing masterpiece. I hope I’m alive to see it completed in 20 years. Did you go up in the elevator there? Parc Guell is also fantastic. I could eat food like that for the rest of my life and not get tired of it. We ate at so many fantastic tapa places. We found the people to be very friendly and open. We walked the Ramblas and loved watching the mimes there. Anyway, welcome back and glad you had a great honeymoon in a great city.

We actually didn’t go into the Sagrada; I just took a ton of pictures from the outside. I’m not sure we found the people super friendly, but we loved it nonetheless.

Good to have you back Doug
I am sure you had a lot of fun on your trip. Spain is one of the European countries I would like to see some day.
I always enjoy the vast amount of info you put up here. The comments by Vrabel were funny. Interesting to hear about it from someone who has been on both sides of those 4th down situations. It was a sweet run by Moreno.

Welcome back, you international man of mystery
KC was fun. If only for the thousand yard stare on Cassell’s face in the 3rd quarter.
