Who cares about Marshall's record? Not me
I could care a less about the Marshall record today. The more people that are involved in catching the ball the better the offense will be. Not sure why our Young Jedi is allowing Orton to do this.
Ouch does our O-line suck. Need to spend some draft picks on replacing the slugs... Even Clady has looked lazy lately. Somebody needs to light a fire under them.
We sure did miss Larsen's blocking today. Great use of Hillis today as well. Why not give him a chance.
The best way to slow down an agressive pass rush? Maybe a screen pass to a RB or TE.
Jedi gets an D- for play calling today.

Agree on the screens
The O-line played bad today but great the previous 2 weeks. I love Weigman but he needs to be replaced. He was manhandled today as well as in some other games this year. Hochstein is a career backup and needs to be replaced. We’ll have to make due with Polumbus for the remainder of this year but Harris will be back next year. I know spreading the ball around is a good thing but shoot, if they’re giving you Marshall all day, why not keep going until they stop you. That was the only thing that seemed to work all day. If Royal wants the ball he better get open then. If the O-line doesn’t get any push, it doesn’t matter what RB you have in there and today that was evident. I can’t see Hillis being any different today based on the play of the line.

I agree with Tdot here.
If the defense is going to free up Marshall, go to him. Keep going to him until they show they can stop it. Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded if we went to marshall 30 times instead of running it unsuccessfully, if I knew that we’d succeed with it.
Marshall was truly a beast today. He was getting open and making plays. You can’t fault McD for going to him because, frankly, it was working out pretty well. I just wish that our Oline had played with the same intensity and drive that Marshall was. If they had, Moreno would have gotten going and we could have made some plays on third down and won the game.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Throw to the open guy.
Easy enough. Watch the tape, Marshall is the only receiver getting open.

Marshall’s game today says as much about Eddie Royal’s massive regression as it does about Brandon’s excellence.
Mark me up as someone that doesn’t give a hoot about the record. He’ll be a $10MM per year player very soon.

I think...
that McD is trying to turn Eddie into a speedy possession receiver in the mold of a Wes Welker. Dunno how long that’ll take though, or if it ever will…

I don't care about the record
but I like to see our best player stepping it up when many weren’t. The criticisms of the O-line are right on (especially in the redzone and short yardage situations), and I didn’t think Royal would be this irrelevant.
I think if anything this shows that Marshall is the man who has the championship stuff because he picks it up when we need it most. This team would be no where near playoff contention without him, and I believe he is due that $10M a year.
So I DO care about the record but only because of what I think it means.

I get questioning the calls.
I asked “Why not Hillis?” after Bucky went out, and when Knowshon seemed to produce nothing on short yardage downs. I question why we continually ran Moreno to the inside, after it didn’t work the 3 plays before. I was shocked we didn’t pass MORE. That was what was WORKING. I understand setting up the pass with the run, blah blah blah, but Marshall was doing such a great job, he deserved to be targeted. I agree with the above posters on that. I also think the record is not all that important, but it is significant for Marshall. If he still wants out of Denver this offseason, he is creating a golden ticket to another team, with a lot of value to the Broncos. I want to keep him, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see McD trade him. It seems to be McD’s MO.
I get everything you say, EXCEPT the fact that you have the audacity to “rate” the coach, as if you know better. The arrogance of some fans just baffles me. If you are Don Shula or Jimmy Johnson incognito, fine, grade the guy. But until you have gotten paid to coach a pro football team, you have real nerve criticizing McD’s playcalling like you could do something better. There’s a reason you are not a pro football coach, so support your team and try to figure out WHY he made the calls he did instead of damning him. It’s fruitless.

He's not the only one kb
I am P.O.‘d for pretty much the same reasons as McGeorge is. No lead blocker on the short yardage plays. Where is Scheffler? STOOOPID play calling in those situations. The O-line penalties simply must stop. If those guys were on my construction crew, I would fire them for those idiotic penalties. For the salaries these guys make is it too much to ask that they concentrate for a snap count for ten seconds every 2 to 3 minutes? It’s not like they need hazard pay or something. C’mon!
That said, I am excited for raiders week. Let the healing begin. Lol

If you think I don't scream at the TV, you're out of your mind.
But you cannot possibly know what McD saw to call the plays he did. The fact that a play didn’t work makes armchair quarterbacking SO easy after the fact, doesn’t it? But you put your calls on the line, or even the genius of my friend McGeorge’s playcalls, and after a blown coverage, or your line just flat getting out played, or even fair and square out-coached, you’ll have some idiot claiming that they could coach better than you, too. But that doesn’t mean they can. And yes, I said “out-coached,” because it is possible to call a great game and still have the other guy beat you once in a while.
I QUESTION the playcalling, because I want to know what he saw. But to call it stupid playcalling is moronic. Sorry Kap, you’re one of the best, but I don’t see this one the way you do.

You seriously don’t think fans should critque/criticize a coaches game plan, play calling, or personnel moves? Seriously? Does this apply to all games in all sports? It’ll A: give them more reason to sign him or B: give a 1st round draft pick during the restricted FA period 4 compensation….all it does is makes us better.

I’m a huge Hillis fan but even he couldn’t do nothing the way the line was blocking. remember a game earlier in the season where hillis had three chances to get in the endzone from the 1? We got nada from those 3 trys or the 4th try fron jordan. number 1 priorty in the draft is a LG (1st round) and a C (2nd round)

However, it looks like Chicago’s giving us a top 10 pick for xmas, and any G or C is a reach in the top 10 imo. Although if we trade down I would then agree with G and C in 1st and 2nd round…

Its easy to blame coaching when a team loses . . .
But the fact remains that our interior offensive line is PATHETIC!!!! They have been from the get-go. McD has already talked about how he likes huge interior linemen (talking 335 lbs or more). I guarantee we will be using a good portion of our draft picks going after Offensive linemen and FA’s that fit the mold McD is looking for.
Let me remind you that Hockstein was brought in because he was very versatile . . . can play OLine, TE and FB. If we had a decent OG, then I would Hochstein could have moved to FB on the short yardage plays. Hillis does not have it . . . every time I see him play its painful. He just doesn’t have it . . . period! He will be let go next season.

I respectfully disagree
that the more people that have touches the better. Marshall is tough to bring down and is great in yac. I would rather have him running with the ball than any other receiver.
by Marius on Dec 14, 2009 10:56 AM MST reply actions 0 recs
and going off your point, marius,
i saw someone on espn (korheiser maybe?) say that the record’s not a big deal because if other receivers were thrown to that much they’d get that many catches too.
that theory might be a lot less inane if orton went 4 for 25 going to marshall, but the very fact that that many balls thrown to marshall were completed speaks highly of that particular record. i.e. the colts KNEW where orton was going every time and marshall STILL got open and caught the ball—he was that good.

Here is another tidbit from Horse Tracks today
from the Colorado Springs Gazette’s Frank Schwab: Link
The record will be tough to duplicate. Hall-of-Fame receiver Michael Irvin said he didn’t know if anyone would ever catch more than 20 passes again.
"I don’t know if people understand how difficult that is, how great that is," Irvin said. "It’s an incredible thing, and some of the plays he made were phenomenal. I wish I could have done some of that."
