Darcel McBath to IR, Broncos sign Vernon Fox
The Broncos lost more than a game in Indianapolis yesterday; they lost a promising rookie for the season as well.
Broncos HC Josh McDaniels announced during his weekly Monday Presser that Rookie S Darcel McBath was placed on Injured Reserve with a broken arm suffered in the 2nd half against the Colts. Wasting no time, the team brought back DB Vernon Fox to replace McBath on the 53-man roster.
McBath was playing well - both on Special Teams and on defense whether playing for Brian Dawkins or Renaldo Hill.
On the season, McBath had 2 interceptions to go along with 13 tackles.

Oh man, 8-5 with three games to go. Please don't be 2008 again!

Our schedule was hell to finish 2008. We got smoked by much better teams at San Diego and Carolina.
With JaBust and Cassell coming to town, doesn’t have the same feeling.
This is my favorite website.
Yeah, we should be able to make it to 10-6 without many problems and that should be good enough to make the playoffs.
Side note: I heard Gradkowski got injured in the game and they had to bring The Hutt in. Anyone know if Gradkowski will be back next week or will JaBlubber be starting?

Cable won't commit to a starter yet
You can tell he doesn’t want to put Hutt back in (39 total yards once he came under center last week), but Gradkowski has two sprains, one on each knee. If he goes, that fader lockeroom might explode from all the warm fuzzies…
The other option is Charlie Frye, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Cable makes a point of not choosing any of the three (if Gradkowski isn’t completely ruled out) just so Denver has to plan for all of them.
Worst case scenario might also be the best, and that is if Gradkowski manages to nut up and start. On the one hand, the faders can be expected to be inspired and play pretty hard with Gradkowski under ceneter. On the other hand, Grad is no Morton. Two bum knees should make him a sitting duck, and that fader pass blocking leaves a lot to be desired.

It would be criminal
to start Gradkowski. One of his MCL’s is partially torn. I’d expect he can recover without surgery if he doesn’t tear it more. He seems like a good kid, and if Cable plays him, it will be all the more reason to despise him and the Raiders.
We will now discuss in a little more detail the Struggle for Existence.

Grad is no Gannon
but i put them in the same category as far as the faders are concerned: probably deserve better.
And I totally agree, it would be criminal to pressure Grad into trying to keep this team’s psyche afloat by starting, or even pretending to start.
Maybe criminal isn’t the best trait to damn that type of decision with? After all, they have just the guy, in Cable, to pull it off….

Yeah those Bills...
absolute beasts. I’m really not surprised we lost those last three…

Not 2008
I think at this point we were what, 4 RB’s in? Tatum Bell was doing sprints to the Cin-a-bon between accessory upgrades and bedazzled cell phone cover sales to teenage girls, waiting for Shanny to call. I think we are in a better situation this year. BTW, I really feel for Darcel. Hopefully he heals properly and is ready to compete next year.
Not gonna happen.
These last three games are very winnable.

Yuck. McBath had a pick on sunday, too.
The injury bug is starting to creep in and I don’t like it.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.
Girl, you don't need to be a 10, as long as you have a good smile and smell like bacon.
Lucky for us Vernon Fox hadn't been swiped up by some other team!
(eye roll)
Seriously, though, this is a real bummer for a great kid. Get well soon, D-Mac — we look forward to having you back next season.

Bummer.
He’s been great all year on ST and had an excellent game yesterday. I hope Bruton is healthy down the stretch if Hill is hurting. The good news is we have Jamarkus the Hutt and KC over the next few weeks, and when we play in Philly, Weopon X will be so fired up we will be fine letting him play both safety positions.
lol
I have a feeling B Dawk would win that game 1-on-11 if he had to. ; )

That’s real bad news! .
Get well soon D-Mac! We pray for you and believe that you will come back stronger and better than ever!
Sucks.
Darcel was one of the rookies I was really excited to see play this year. Hopefully, he’ll come back stronger next season.

good point
Too bad they put him on IR.
If he’s heir apparent to #20, he has to be able to play with a cast on. ; )

They needed to
Best case for broken bones tends to be about a month. We needed the extra depth for the playoff push.

McBath was developing in leaps and bounds
stood out in every game he played and just kept getting better. This is a terrible shame. Safety is one of the deepest units on the team, so the loss can be easily absorbed, but dang, this kid was looking good.
From a teambuilding aspect, the return of Fox is interesting. I expect Denver to want to get into next year’s training camp with 6 safeties, and assuming that Barrett is tendered and kept as an RFA, Fox could very well make #6. With Hill and Dawkins most likely good to go for 2010 (Dawkins will always be a question mark for retirement issues, but he is playing like a monster, so I don’t see any surprises there) I can’t see us targetting any of the free agent safeties this year, which leaves reserve type safety free agents (i.e. Fox) and a young guy in the draft, probably a later round, such as a Robert Vaughn from Ted’s hometown Huskies….

Different learning curves
But I’m excited about McBath, Bruton and Phonz for the next few years; a lot of safeties get drafted with the nice ST skill set, but not many make the next year’s team; even if we lose 1 next year we are in good shape compared to last few bad free agent years.

Damn you Al Davis
This is off topic but I should point out that Raider Fan just walked by my team in the office, and we stopped him when he just waved and walked on. He said he had no smack for us because he was too depressed about his team. He said Al Davis has destroyed them to the point where he doesn’t even care about the rest of the season.
That’s the last straw. Now, Al Davis has taken away Raider Week! His fans don’t even want to talk smack any more!
It just occurred to me…I want to see the Raiders defeated, battered and broken but not destroyed. I love hating them too much. Oh well. Here’s hoping they don’t figure it out THIS week.
Don't argue with fools. It's how they reproduce.
Gotta keep the hate!
maybe we could form and alias and pretend to talk smack til the faiders recover ….. I have hated them since I was 16 (which covers a few years) and I am not about to be deprived!
Get well soon McBath!
You’re doing great guy…looking forward to seeing you on the field next year!

That hit to separate Dallas Clark from the ball on third down followed by the interception. This kid gets it.
Good luck in your recovery and look forward to watching your continued growth next year. What a shame!
The QB position is set.
Damn
I was really liking what I see from Darcell. Luckily, as someone else said, it’s just a broken bone. He’ll be back better next season. He just might be our future at Safety, and I’m excited about it.
If he was a real warrior, he would just chop that thing off in the locker room and go back out there.
Wait, nevermind. That was just a finger……… I take that back.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Hope he heals up well and is ready for 2010
He looks like he has a good future in this league, I would say I have been surprised by his play, he has performed the best of the rookies (IMO).
