Losing Is Only Beneficial When Used Pragmatically
As one who loves team sports (especially the NFL!) and my Broncos, it's always disappointing to see the Broncos lose. Nevertheless, there is value in it, provided that defeat is handled in an appropriate way.
By this I mean that if the Broncos watch the film intently as I did this morning, they'll see what went wrong. The good news is that all the mistakes are correctable, especially Mike Hart's run on 3rd and 1 that enabled Indianapolis to bleed the clock.
There comes a time when we have to tip our hats to the Colts and say you guys beat us. There is no shame in admitting defeat, but defeat should not be something we experience too often. Thankfully, with this core it won't be.
There is too much integrity and pride manifested in the likes of Brian Dawkins, Correll Buckhalter and Kyle Orton to allow the Broncos to go into decline after a little adversity.
I fully expect the Broncos to vanquish the Raiders, Eagles and Chiefs en route to an 11-5 record. If that's good enough for a divisional title, then hallelujah! If not, though, we have an equal opportunity to win a championship as everybody else if we secure a wild card berth, which is why the NFL>>>>>>>>the BCS.
In closing, let's keep the faith and get ready to lay a beatdown on the Raiders. If Bob Costas' report at the end of the Eagles-Giants game is any indication, Bruce Gradkowski may not return this season for Oakland.
Thus, let's feast on JaMarcus Russell and show the Raiders the gap between the Silver and Black and the Orange and Blue is as wide as the Grand Canyon.
With hopes that we go 9-5 this weekend, GO BRONCOS!!!

Good points Bradfather…..I would really like a 3-0 finish to the regular season. That would just taste sweet……

Playoffs are something you really want a running start at – get in sync, believe you can, and get used to winning

We have to win the next 3 games if we want to play later in the season.
We can not depend on other teams losing…It ain’t going to work. It ain’t about winning next week, that’s over, they made sure of that. It’s win now or go home.
A wildcard wouldn't be an "equal" opportunity
because we’d have to play three games to the Super Bowl and all, most likely, on the road. But I get what yur saying. I’d like to see us make a run, but I am not sure we’re good enough to make it past the first round. Those redzone and short yardage situations are symptomatic of us losing the grit battle in the trenches. If we don’t get that fixed then we’re toast in the playoffs.
But I do want to break that seal (get into the playoffs) and I REALLY look forward to next year and think that if this is the team McD offers under the circumstances he dealt with his FIRST year, then watch out next year.

point of history
Denver’s first Super Bowl WIN came during a season in which we entered the playoffs as a wild card team. We beat Jacksonville at home then went on the road to beat Kansas City and PIttsburgh, and finished up by beating Green Bay in the big game.
Not saying that’s the way it will play out this year, but we certainly have to remember that just being the wild card does not automatically exclude us from being able to get to the Super Bowl.
